Take the dagger and stab your heart
83
"You're not going to come in?"
Alex turned to his sister, who was frozen at the door of their house. In response, she took a deep breath and they entered the house.
"Lúcia"
Before they could both take a good look at the interior of their own house, a girl jumped like a cat, hugging Lúcia tightly.
"Mónica, take it easy, I'm being suffocated"
Lúcia patted the back of her friend, who was hugging her with great force.
"I was so worried I couldn't even close my eyes. How are you? Are you okay?"
Lúcia took a look at her friend, who had swollen eyes and a dark shadow forming around them.
"Am I okay?"
Alex took a look at their interaction and showed a small smile. He had been through a lot in the last few days, and finally he could rest after worrying so much.
"Alex, why did you take so long? I was imagining the worst. Finally you arrived safe and sound" Mónica looked at Alex and said with puffed cheeks.
"Sorry about that, things ended up getting complicated, but thank God everything worked out in the end" Alex gently ran his hand over Mónica's head, who relaxed a little with the caress.
"I'm going to see mom"
"I'll go with you"
Alex took a look at his mother, whom he didn't know. As always, she remained lying down, asleep, with no sign of waking up. He saw Lúcia holding her hands and caressing her face while she sobbed.
Alex stayed there, watching Lúcia talk to their mother.
"Mom, I'm back"
"I'm sorry for spending so much time away from home, I promise I'll never do that again, I promise"
"Mom, has Mónica been taking good care of you? You can tell me, and I'll scold her if she really didn't take good care of you"
"Mom, how about you wake up? I'm here, Alex too. Look, he's different now from how he used to be, he's like dad now"
"Speaking of which, dad still hasn't come back. You should wake up soon so we can wait for dad together"
Alex felt something tighten in his heart as he watched this scene. He wondered what kind of person his mother was. Looking at his sister, he could deduce some things, but even so, he would like to know what kind of woman she was.
Alex never had a mother's affection because his mother had abandoned them when he was still young, and his parents had never married again. His father always told Alex that his mother would come back someday.
Alex always thought of his mother with anger, because his father wasted his youth while she, God knows where, had disappeared. Alex wouldn't be surprised if someone told him that his mother had another family.
But Alex always longed for her to return, despite the anger he nurtured in his heart.
In this parallel reality, he had a present mother, but in the end, it was still the same. Only her body was there; as for her, she had also vanished. This time, Alex couldn't even harbor negative feelings toward her.
It was dinner time and the two were having their meal. Mónica decided to go home; it was the weekend, and she had already spent a lot of time with the two of them. Lúcia wanted her to stay, but in the end, understood her friend.
"I'm not hungry"
"Try to eat at least a little bit, you're growing, so it's good for you to eat properly"
Alex sighed inwardly. He knew that the recent events had probably left some trauma in his sister's mind, which was why he focused on having conversations not related to the recent events for now.
He didn't want his sister to relive the trauma that Lúcia had just been through. They would talk about it at the right time; for now, he wanted her to just relax with the monotony.
Their father was missing, their mother was in a coma and had recently been kidnapped, not to mention that before that, her brother had been arrested. Alex looked at Lúcia and realized that the girl had been through a lot in the last few days.
He had been complaining about everything he went through, but his sister had also faced great battles, and the fact that she was still there fighting to continue said a lot about her perseverance and courage.
On the other side.
Lúcia looked at the care and concern her brother was showing for her and felt warmed inside. Physically she was fine, but mentally she was shaken. But being there with her brother at home, that calmed her.
Lúcia looked at her plate and sighed inwardly. It wasn't that she wasn't hungry. In fact, she was, but she simply couldn't eat the crap she had prepared.
When she was being treated like a princess, she only ate what was best and prepared by a renowned chef, and now there she was again, a commoner.
Her palate had gotten used to the refined tastes of the nobility and, truth be told, they were broke. The only thing on her plate was rice with pieces of vegetables that Mónica had left behind.
How the hell was she supposed to eat that? Rice with vegetables cooked together. She looked at her brother's plate, which was practically clean as he prepared to serve himself another round, and wondered how he was managing to eat that.
Lúcia didn't know that when Alex was imprisoned in the Spider King's dungeon, he had fed on grass and tree bark, so for Alex, rice with vegetables was still a luxury item.
And if Lúcia knew that, she would choke right there in consternation.
"I'm going to bed to sleep a bit. Tomorrow we're going to church, right?" Alex had finished his third plate and said this as he stood up.
"The church, yes, we're going. I'll tidy up the house before I sleep, you can go rest first"
"All right, have a great night"
"Thanks, same to you"
Lúcia watched her brother go up the stairs, leaving her with a pile of dishes to deal with and the house to organize. She would also have to clean the place, since Mónica hadn't done a good job in that regard.
Lúcia slapped her forehead, knowing she would have to take care of her clothes and her brother's. Tomorrow would be Sunday, and she had to iron the clothes.
"Would it be too shameless if I took mom and Alex to Her Majesty's mansion?"
For someone who had a maid to bathe her and help her get dressed, now having to take care of her mother, her brother, and the house, Lúcia had to get used to poverty all over again.
As if that wasn't enough, Saturday had practically ended, and Sunday would pass quickly. That meant she would have to show up at work on Monday.
Lúcia collapsed into a chair, but then she remembered that no one would do anything for her, and she would have to start taking care of everything before going to sleep.
***
Lúcia was extremely tired when she finished doing all the pending housework. It had taken her about 3 hours to finish everything.
She walked to her mother's room and prepared her for sleep, changing her clothes and giving her a massage. When she was done, she headed to her brother's room.
He slept peacefully. She saw his chest rising and falling, his face passive in sleep.
Lúcia bent down and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
"Good night, brother, dream with the angels"
Lúcia said softly with a smile on her beautiful face. Finally, she could rest.
***
At the Blue Spirit Guild.
"What is it, vice-leader of the guild? Why are you working so late at night?"
Tatiana looked at her secretary, who practically did everything for her, and shrugged.
"I feel like I forgot something very important, but I can't remember what it is?"
"Maybe it's not important. I suggest the vice-leader get some rest. I think a good night's sleep will refresh your memory"
"You're right. If it's really important, I'll end up remembering sooner or later"
***
Lúcia carefully closed her brother's bedroom door behind her when something passed through her mind.
For some reason she felt she should take one more look before faithfully going to sleep; she couldn't say whether she was moved by longing or by something completely different.
When Lúcia opened the door again, she was startled and ended up screaming. The scream made Alex's eyes open.
Lúcia saw a figure dressed completely in black holding a dagger to her brother's neck; terrified, she screamed.
***
Alex was awakened by his sister's scream. He had been completely relaxed and had fallen into a deep sleep, but the scream fully roused him.
He saw his sister immobilized, held from behind, and a dagger with a liquid dripping toward her neck.
"Don't move," the figure in black said in a hoarse voice in which it was impossible to distinguish gender.
Alex was wearing only a pair of boxers that covered his body; he raised his hands and spoke with his eyes brimming with murderous intent.
"All right, don't do anything to her, let her go," Alex said, taking a few steps forward with his hands raised.
"If you move she dies," the hoarse voice sounded again.
"Brother"
"Lúcia, stay calm."
The figure in black threw a dagger in Alex's direction.
"Pick up this dagger and stab it into your chest, right toward the heart. If you don't do it, she dies," the hoarse voice said in a threatening, resolute tone.
