Chapter 90: Hunters Association

Returning to the Hunters Association

Feeling the world slowing down around him, Alex focused on his Dexterity, which allowed him to have precise control over his own body. Combined with his Agility, he was able to adapt somewhat to his new power.

Seeing the assassin fleeing once again in the opposite direction, Alex gave chase.

Several black-clad figures appeared, scattering in every direction. All of them looked identical to the assassin and emanated the exact same aura. Alex ignored the rest and focused solely on one.

If Alex had only 91 points in Perception, he would undoubtedly have been deceived. Even if he raised that number to 131 thanks to Excalibur, he would still waste some time locating the real one.

But with 222 points, it was easy for him to discern the true assassin among all those copies. For him, it was like distinguishing the sun from the moon so obvious that even a child could tell which was which.

Alex stored the dark sword back into his inventory, concentrated on controlling his powers, and tried again.

Lightning Step Lv3.

Alex was enveloped in a violet glow surrounded by crackling lightning, and his figure reappeared some distance away his left hand gripping the assassin by the neck.

"Got you."

Alex slammed his fist into the ground while still holding the assassin. With a swift motion, the dark figure was crushed against the ground, unable to move. A crater formed beneath him.

Alex felt the assassin's body tremble slightly. He then tore off the mask revealing a face he had never seen before.

"Who are you?"

Alex asked, pointing Excalibur at the assassin's neck.

Gravitational Control Lv5 was activated right inside the assassin's mouth Alex detected a capsule hidden among his teeth.

He was surprised by how easy it had become to use his Authority outside his own body, affecting only a small area within his field of vision. With his fingers, he removed the tooth that contained the poisoned capsule.

"I'll ask again who are you, and who sent you?"

Alex stared coldly at the assassin, his violet eyes glowing in the darkness as he pressed Excalibur closer to the man's neck.

The masked figure felt the crushing gravitational pressure bearing down on his body. Even something as simple as breathing had become difficult, not to mention that the poison hidden in his mouth was now gone.

The murderous intent in the young man's eyes was clear if he didn't speak, he would undoubtedly die. But what about his code of honor, which forbade him from revealing the name of his employer?

The assassin struggled to breathe and coughed up a mouthful of blood. He had known the professor's son would be strong he had even expected it. Yet, not even in his wildest dreams had he imagined that Alex would be this powerful.

Seeing the assassin remain silent, Alex drove his sword into the man's leg. The assassin groaned softly but stayed quiet. Alex then stabbed the other leg.

"How about you say something? If you tell me who sent you, I'll let you go."

Alex spoke as he pierced the assassin's thigh.

He didn't want to do this, but he needed to know who wanted him dead someone bold enough to invade his home and endanger his family.

Even then, when the masked man refused to speak, Alex gathered gravitational power into his hands, merging it with the crackling lightning that illuminated the darkness.

The assassin screamed in agony this time. He felt electricity running through his body while gravity crushed his legs, turning them into a paste of flesh.

"You're not going to talk, are you?"

After completely destroying the right leg, Alex moved on to the left one. He controlled the voltage of his electricity so he wouldn't accidentally kill the assassin.

"Blue Spirit."

With great difficulty, Alex heard the assassin utter the name of a guild. At this point, the man's left hand had already turned into a bloody pulp, just like both of his legs.

A blue ray of light crossed the sky, and a female figure descended, positioning herself beside Alex and the assassin. The woman's blonde curls trembled in the wind as her robotic eyes analyzed the scene.

From the scene, she was able to determine in her mind, more or less, what had happened. Felícia frowned slightly before sighing.

Alex's eyes opened slightly. He had lost consciousness, and when his MP was too low, he had reverted to his normal form, allowing the poison to continue its work.

"Brother, you finally woke up."

Alex saw Lúcia with swollen eyes giving him a tired smile. He looked at his sister and smiled back, glancing quickly around to find out where he was.

"How long was I asleep?"

Alex asked, trying to sit up. He was in a hospital bed, in the medical wing of the association to be precise. Alex sighed and laughed ironically for having returned to this place so soon.

"Two days… you were unconscious for two days. I was worried to death."

Lúcia said, her cheeks swollen.

"I'm sorry for worrying you. I won't let it happen again." Alex ran his hand over his sister's head, trying to reassure her.

"How are you? Your eyes look awful. How long did you stay awake?" Alex's voice was full of concern.

"All the time. I was too worried to sleep, so I stayed with you the entire time." Lúcia said, trying to snuggle closer on the same hospital bed as her brother.

***

A long time passed this way.

Alex was back at the Hunters Association. It had been extremely difficult for Lúcia to let him leave. During the time that had passed, she had treated Alex as if he were made of glass.

Unfortunately for her, she had to let him leave to go to work. To the girl's misfortune, who could not stop worrying, she lost her job.

Lúcia worked as a nurse at a private medical center. Her job was the household's only source of income, and her salary covered everyone's expenses.

Adding the days that had passed to the time she had been kidnapped, it amounted to a considerable number of days. And because Alex never thought for a moment that he should justify his sister's absences, she ended up being dismissed and replaced by another nurse.
