Your mother can be saved
Their economic situation, which was already precarious, had just worsened. Fortunately for her, the hospital had compensated Lúcia with six months of her base salary, which would be enough to cover the bills for a while.
"Your majesty, you're finally here."
Félix received a package of sweets from Alex's hands with a broad smile.
"It's good to see you too after some time. What did I miss?" Alex sat down, watching everyone in Félix's department working.
"You requested a task force in your name, Your Majesty?" Félix asked, keeping his eyes on the screen while doing his work.
"Yes, I did. It was a suggestion from John and Feliciana, and since none of us had been assigned to a task force or a department, we thought we should join forces."
"I see, but that's not something you can do at the moment, Your Majesty. You would have to be a three-star hunter to effectively create a task force."
Félix said, lightly scratching his head with an apologetic smile on his face. Alex, in turn, furrowed his brow slightly.
"John had told me that to create a task force, the requirement would be for me to become a team leader."
Félix shook his head before replying.
"Indeed, you're right. The requirement is to be a team leader, but being a leader presupposes that you are a three-star hunter. Even though Your Majesty is a leader, that's only true because I made you one."
Félix explained slowly, furiously typing on his virtual keyboard.
"Arnaldo, the Sword Saint, is a two-star hunter and still a leader. Did you appoint him as well?"
Alex asked curiously. Félix shook his head in denial.
"Although the Sword Saint is now a two-star hunter, that is hardly true. You can look at him as a genuine high-level three-star hunter, even though he isn't really one."
Félix paused a moment before continuing.
"But Your Majesty need not worry. I resolved this for you, and your task force request has been approved with the members you specified, adding one more to meet the requirements."
Félix said, giving a broad smile. Alex's eyes shone with surprise, but before he could voice his thoughts, his intercom rang.
"Yes, I'm coming," Alex said, holding his hand to his ear where his intercom was.
"What is it, Your Majesty?" Félix said, giving Alex a glance.
"The general said to meet her in the east wing, Block 15, Room 16. Where is that?"
"Sebastião will take you there."
Félix called one of his men in his department to escort Alex to the mentioned room.
***
"General, here I am."
Alex looked at a beautiful woman with long blonde hair and crimson eyes that resembled slightly glowing, sticky liquid. When she stared, it seemed as if they were flowing.
"I am aware of your presence."
Alex looked around the white room, which greatly highlighted the beautiful figure of the general. Numerous weapons were embedded in the wallsswords, halberds, axes, scythes, and so on. There were also various firearms.
Alex looked at the modern mechanical constructs arranged around the room. He knew that this was the pinnacle of training technology he could find anywhere in the country.
"General, why did you call me?"
The general did not answer. She walked around Alex, observing him closely while occasionally nodding.
"Your growth is not bad. Although you are far from the expectation, it is still something."
She even touched here and there on Alex's body, leaving him somewhat uncomfortable with the gentle touches. He wondered if such intimacy was truly necessary.
"Since you have grown a little, giving you some information should not be negative for your future development."
The general paused briefly before continuing.
"I will tell you how you can awaken your mother. Not only that, but I will also help you achieve itif you pass my test, of course."
The general said, locking eyes with Alex, who almost lost his mind hearing those words.
"My mother can be awakened?" Alex asked, his eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.
Alex felt something in his heart that he could not quite explain.
"Wasn't that what I just said?"
"Yes, but"
"You still need to pass my test," she said, giving Alex a glance.
Alex felt amazed. He did not think of himself; he thought of his sister. She had already suffered so much, and if their mother returned, the cracks in the girl's heart would close a little.
Then, for his sister and for his mother whom he did not know, he had to pass this test, whatever it was.
"What test? What is the content of the test?" Alex asked, bracing himself for the words to come.
"It's simple. You must use all your power to make me take a step back. If you manage to do that, you will have passed," the general said, her eyes impassive, fixed on Alex.
"Really? I just have to make the general take a step back?"
"If you understood, why the question?"
"Sorry, I just wanted to be sure."
"Now that you are sure, go ahead. You have two minutes to make me retreat, and to be fair, I will only use one of my hands and nothing else."
The general said, raising a delicate hand toward Alex.
"All right, I'll start now," Alex said, adopting a serious, upright stance.
The Spider King, Feliciana, and SmokeAlex remembered the three-star hunters he had faced not long ago and wondered how much stronger the general was compared to them.
Alex would find out anyway, and even if the general was much stronger than all those mentioned, she was still a three-star hunter, and making her step back should not be such a difficult task.
Aura exploded from Alex's body, a purple glow surrounding him and rising toward the sky. Lightning crackled around him as he felt his power increasing.
From his inventory, Alex took out his novice sword, and his strength attribute rose from 91 base to 96 thanks to the sword's effect.
Using his 91-point agility and dexterity attributes, along with his Level 3 swordsman skill, Alex unleashed his attack.
