Chapter 148: What A Complicated Person

Everyone in the Empire looked forward to Aegon's match. All because of the excitement to know a Valeria in battle, and also curiosity as to how he would overcome the difference between his team and others.

Contrary to what everyone expected of Aegon's Academy life, he remained unknown throughout the year. Everyone knew of him, but not what he was actually doing.

The whole year went by without any news about him, causing them to become ignorant about his current power.

Even in the Academy, only a few knew about his power, unlike with other participants.

They were curious what made him confident enough to participate in the Supremacy Games in the first place.

The Eternal Sanctum audience was the same.

When his first match was revealed, they got excited, even though they knew it shouldn't cause them any problems in winning.

After all, while Aegon's status was unknown, others had good achievements to reveal their powers.

Even Elara's status was announced publicly to show the public that the Elves' future was secure.

A team consisting of two prodigies like Elara and Calista would win the match easily. But they still kept excitement in their heart.

And the match commenced, as everyone witnessed Aegon one-shotting the mage and couldn't help but feel bad for the girl. She really met her nemesis in the first round.

They expected Aegon to use the momentum to push through the Mid Lane. Instead, he charged towards the Gold Lane and did a sneak attack on the Marksman and Healer.

Seeing how quickly and easily three participants got killed, the audience cheered for Aegon. They liked his dominant nature and confident aggression.

But higher-ups were still confused by his actions, as they noticed him not killing the healer.

That was when Aegon talked to the healer, bringing more clarity to the situation. They finally understood his actions and even cheered even more after realizing the reason.

Especially sheltered noble girls, who liked his current attitude even more.

A few still didn't like his overbearing attitude, but there was nothing they could do about it.

"Your Academy is still trash as ever," Arthur shook his head in disappointment. "You still allow students to beat others like that?"

"Drop the act, Arthur," High Duke Lannister rolled his eyes. "The Army deals with worse stuff. And you should know better than anyone that this is necessary."

"I don't care!" Arthur snorted and glanced to his side where his ex-wife sat. "He has friends."

"You seem jealous of your sister," Liliana said, giving him a light smile.

"Of course I am. The other two don't even have friends," Arthur sighed in defeat.

"They got our gene!" Liliana replied, making Arthur chuckle. "And his genes got overwritten by Xiu's madness. I'm happy at least one turned out different."

"I'm also happy. He learnt from... Dad really well." Arthur nodded.

"I see Xiu's resemblance more, but with Father's tranquility mixed in. Chaotic, decisive, but still calm." Liliana smiled, and even her surroundings seemed to subtly change with her mood. "He'll achieve great things with such an attitude."

She flicked her eyes at Amon and asked, "What truly happened?"

"Whatever do you mean, Ma'am?" Amon flashed his annoying smile at her, hoping for a reaction but as usual, got disappointed.

Still keeping her straight face, Liliana said, "I know Xiu and Father very well... and us too, so I can guess some things about him. Never forget who I am. Give me the answer for why he's doing that."

"Didn't he just say his intentions?" High Duke Cassius asked in confusion. "His friend got beaten up, so now he's taking revenge."

"For Xiu, it's never that simple..." Liliana paused before adding, "Well, sometimes it is, but Father also affected him. There's more to this situation."

Amon chuckled and glanced back at the giant screen playing the Game. Aegon and Rosa rushed to the Hydra, killing it, and then proceeded to help Cali decimate the top lane.

He adjusted his monocle and told them about House Verdant's situation. Rarely anything happening in the Academy went unnoticed by him, so he was well aware of Xavier's situation.

"And you just let them do that?" Arthur scoffed in disdain.

"Now now, don't look down on me, Dear Marshall," Amon chuckled softly and said. "You can't be saying this doesn't happen in real life, are you?"

Shaking his head, he added, "Commoners with good talent getting blackmailed or scammed into serving powerful people is an everyday thing. By not allowing it, I would be denying reality, and I can't let that happen, can I?"

"The Academy gives a way out," Liliana said, keeping her monotonous tone. "In the outside world, there's not much they can do to avoid this fate, but in the Academy it's different."

"Exactly!" Amon laughed. "If they had brains and courage, they would use this opportunity to gather evidence and show it to us. But none did."

His eyes behind the monocle glistened as he added, "It's cruel reality. If Commoners need to rise beyond nobility, they need brain and guts. This Academy was created to produce people who could rule over their life and the world, not someone who bends over in one defeat."

Not liking where the topic was going, Arthur said, "About his strength, I've heard he's above even you, Lily."

"Perhaps. I'll be happy if he is," Liliana smiled. "Actually, Mana Pool-wise he surpasses me. He's already a 4-Star Mage by that standard."

"Really?" Arthur raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Then, it just depends on his versatility and hard work. That runs in the blood, though."

"He has my Intelligence and memory, so that's a given," Liliana's smile turned gentle. "I'm more curious about his Affinity. He has a bundle of them."

"He broke the Obsidian Slate!" Amon said from the side.

"Expected." Liliana nodded. "It can't handle so many affinities. I can practically see the world wrapping itself around him in a warm embrace, as if a parent caressing their child."

"And he's Rank 3 in everything," Amon said, massaging his forehead. "By Apollo, I pray he doesn't turn to the dark side. I don't think anyone can handle him once he becomes a proper adult."

Arthur's eyes lowered as he clenched his fists underneath and said, trying to keep his voice steady, "Isn't that a good thing?... Mom always said the world needs a strong Valerian."

Amon gave him a look before saying, "Olena wanted an heir with such desperation for a reason, Arthur. Still, she was happy with you. What a complicated person."
