Bringing the supplies inside the Academy was supposed to be easy, but Amon didn't alert the professors, so soon Aegon found himself surrounded.
He had to explain everything to them. Fortunately, his status allowed him to be trustworthy enough that the professors left him alone.
He was so angry at Amon that he instantly called him to curse him, but of course, why would he pick up?
Looking at the communication stone, Aegon gritted his teeth. 'This old goblin! No wonder Xiu stole all of his monocles. This guy deserves it.'
He took a deep breath to calm himself, but then remembered something and instantly contacted Xiu.
[Hmm? Missing me so much already after meeting Sister Lily? What, don't like the blood one so came crying back to me?]
"Can you stop being dramatic for a moment?" Aegon was speechless at her illogical logic.
[You're asking the mountain to do push-ups.]
Aegon opened his mouth but closed it soon after. 'What kind of analogy is that? The hell? And why does it make sense?'
[Because I'm the one who said it, Little Sun.]
Aegon sighed in defeat and said, "Xiu, can you do something for me? I'm sure you'll like it. Consider it a mission."
[I'm all ears. Also, what's the reward?]
"There's this gremlin who annoyed me. So can you return the favour? I'll let you decide the way you want to handle it."
[That old man again? Sure, consider it done. I'm a veteran at this now.]
"That's why I asked the professional," Aegon grinned and said. "Please, make sure he remembers it."
[Are you just jealous that he's teaching your little girlfriend?]
Aegon coughed and hurriedly said, "He played a prank on me today."
[I see. I see. So, what's my reward?]
Thinking over it for a while, Aegon sighed in defeat and replied, "You can squish my cheeks even in public for the next two months."
[Hey, make it a lifetime!]
"Nope!"
[Ten years?]
"Xiu!"
[Little Sun~]
"Xiu!"
[Sigh! Fine. One year.]
"Four months."
[I'm not going down to six months.]
Aegon smiled. "Fine! Six months it is."
[I have a feeling I got scammed.]
"Impossible! Your son can never scam you," Aegon chuckled.
[That's true. Hehe, the reward is worth it, so now I'm making his life hell.]
Aegon suddenly felt pity for Amon, but then he remembered what he had done now and instantly a vindictive joy filled his heart. He even cursed him before cutting the call.
Once that was dealt with, the most troublesome part came for him. Since the domain turned him mundane, he wouldn't be able to move everything inside with his immense strength or magic.
Even his shadows couldn't help him, as they didn't have the permit to enter. So Aegon had to carry everything inside, including foldable beds and many other things they might need inside.
There were many food supplies too. And as a food lover, he made sure he had everything he needed to prepare a good meal even inside the treasury.
Of course, not everything needed to be carried inside, as he could just come outside and ask Hecte to bring it for him. Like fresh meat from Monsters and many other things.
Once everything necessary was inside, Aegon found a clearing and built two proper tents there. Since the treasury was very big, this didn't pose a problem at all.
When he was done, he took a bath outside and came back, only to find Liliana still immersed in the Researcher's Journal. A gold-rimmed glass rested on her nose, hiding her beautiful red eyes behind a transparent curtain.
Aegon joined her and asked, "So, anything dangerous in particular?"
"None that I found at least," Liliana answered, sighing. "This will take some time. Many unknown Runes are there. I don't understand how someone of that time could have learnt so many Runes."
In general, modern civilization always knew more Runes than the previous ones for obvious reasons, so it came as a surprise that someone from fifteen thousand years ago knew so many Runes.
"By the way, how did you find out there isn't danger inside when you can't even read many Runes?" Aegon asked, curious. "After all, as long as we don't understand the meaning, it shouldn't pose any threat."
"That's where you're wrong. Sure, only forbidden knowledge brings Erasure, but its presence also has a similar effect on a smaller scale."
She raised her head and smiled. "Now try to feel this."
Aegon watched as she opened her mouth to say something, but before the words even left her mouth, he felt a terrible premonition and instantly pushed his chair backwards.
Seeing that reaction, Liliana smiled and said, instead of saying whatever she was going to say earlier, "Understand?"
Aegon nodded. "It's truly wonderful how the world works in so many mysterious and dangerous ways."
"That's for sure."
"Uhh, I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions, but I have one more," Aegon said, scratching his chin.
Liliana giggled softly. "I understand you, Aegon. I've been in that position, and how I wished there was someone to answer my questions. So, I'll be that someone to you. Ask any number of questions and I'll answer all of them."
"Thanks. Then, I'll ask a silly question," Aegon sighed. "Though it's more of a confirmation. The domain can't affect the basic, fundamental laws of the World, right? Not this one at least."
"For that, I'll have to explain how domains work to you, so it's best if you don't pry into it," she responded calmly. "As it can go both ways."
'Both ways, huh. Wait! Don't think too much about it.' Aegon shook his head. 'But at least one thing is for sure. The world can bypass domains to force its laws inside. Or maybe this domain... fuck! Why am I thinking of it again?'
He hurriedly erased those thoughts and asked, "In any case, what did you find?"
"There are twenty-three sections. The first section mostly covers the basic theory he had before starting," Liliana said. "At least that's what I understood, so let's get to work."
Aegon nodded and retrieved a pen and notebooks from a bag. Then, both of them began working to decipher the journal.
The task proved to be time-draining, as they first needed to understand the Rune, then its meaning, and make sure they remembered it before writing it down. Then they had to confirm once again that they had written down the correct one.
They couldn't afford even a minor mistake, so they took all precautions. Especially since their enemy was the world itself, and they couldn't do anything to resist its Erasure. So, they made sure of everything, even if it took time.
Fortunately, both of them were patient when it came to things like these, so they calmly did their work. Their perfect memory came in handy once again, providing them with vast knowledge of Runes, so translating the journal became easier.
When they encountered unknown Runes, Aegon had to take the lead and understand them. Because it was a new Rune for him, forgetting it was very easy, so he had to spend extra effort and time to make sure they got it right.
The time needed to translate even a single line proved to be greater than they expected, but they were quite happy with the findings, so they continued.
"Harness Soul Force to control the World Essence, what a crazy guy," Aegon was truly dumbfounded after seeing the theory. "I understand how he thought of this theory, but genuinely, this is crazy stuff."
He took a deep breath and added, "Playing with one thing is already crazy enough, but he planned to mix both."
"Insane people either create some otherworldly things or die trying," Liliana said, resting her back on the chair.
"That's true." Aegon nodded. "How about we finish the first half and have dinner? I'm pretty sure it's midnight by now, and we haven't eaten all day."
"Our bodies need it," Liliana said, cracking her knuckles. "Let's get back to it."
They continued for another hour or so before they finally managed to complete the first half of the first section, which already showed how long this journal would take.
Normally, they could have continued for longer, but now they had mundane bodies, so they needed to eat and rest too. They were too exhausted after a whole day of work, so they decided to eat and call it a day.
As Aegon was packing his stuff, he noticed Liliana fidgeting in her spot nervously. Her eyes were going from here to there rapidly.
It surprised him greatly, since this was the first time he had seen her nervous. Heck, this was the first time she had lost her composure. As his surprise faded, he began to worry.
"Did something happen?" he asked, concern clear in his voice.
Liliana flinched, a flash of guilt and shame crossing her eyes as she lowered her head and said, "It's just that... umm, I don't know how to cook, so I can't make dinner."
