Chapter 236: Soul Essence (1)

Liliana had studied the journal alongside Aegon, but as a Soul Cultivator, his knowledge on the subject was a lot more, so she let him take the lead. In fact, he taught her many things about Soul Cultivation in the span of the last month.

She mostly just gave suggestions or advice against dangerous things; otherwise, she let him do his stuff. Which was why he was currently explaining everything to her.

Aegon looked at her faint smile and knew that this was all amusing to her. Although they agreed to have a mentor–student relationship, it wasn't hard to see that Liliana still treated him as her son.

As a mother, she was proud to see her son's accomplishments. She felt amused seeing him rambling on a subject that interested him so much.

Shaking his head, he ignored her smile and said.

"You see, the Rune is very unstable and sensitive in nature. Touch it wrongly and you'll suffer the consequences. That's what happened with that crazy guy. He thought he found the right materials and engraved the Rune on it. Well, it didn't turn out well."

Liliana frowned slightly and said, "I didn't think of that. When I tried to make it, the Rune seemed not normal and I also tested a bit. Well, mentally."

"No. You're right," Aegon said, tapping the table between them. "The Rune is pretty stable, but its sensitive nature shows when it comes in contact with Soul Essence. Make it, I'll show you."

Liliana flicked her fingers as a Rune formed before her in an instant. Pulsating in a purple color, it held the shape of infinity encased in a sphere of circles. A pair of arrows seemed to be piercing through the singularity point of the infinity.

The Rune was so intricate and stable that Aegon stared without blinking. Though, he was more impressed by Liliana's flawless control over her mana and the way she could let the Runes blend into the plane of existence without losing control.

"You're really amazing," Aegon muttered, as he raised his hand. "Keep some distance."

Liliana nodded as the Rune floated in the middle of the table.

Staring deeply at it, Aegon stretched his hand towards it and let strands of Soul Essence be drawn out from his hand. It was Weaver's Hand, so the work was easily done.

The moment the strand touched the Rune, the infinity compressed in on itself, making the space around it twist and collapse. Tears in the spacetime curvature began to show a misty white inside them.

Aegon's gaze settled on that mist for a second. And the next second, a terrible pain assaulted his physique and he fell to his knees, gritting his teeth to resist the pain.

Fortunately, the pain only lasted for a few seconds as he gasped for breath and lay on the wooden floor, chest heaving up and down.

"I apologize," Liliana's concerned voice sounded beside him. "I should have expected this. Are you alright?"

Aegon nodded, as he took out a healing potion and chugged it down. Surprisingly, those few seconds had done a lot of damage to his body. Blood vessels ruptured, organs showed internal bleeding, bones cracked, and other things he couldn't quite describe.

'What the fuck?'

If it wasn't for his physique boosting his body, especially in this Twilight Domain, he would have suffered more.

"Is this what killed that guy?" He muttered, as the potion rapidly healed everything.

"I don't think so," Liliana said, as she helped him sit properly.

Aegon raised an eyebrow. Though before asking, he took out a couch and made himself comfortable on it.

"Why do you think that?"

"Brandon was more powerful than you, so he probably handled this well. That's how he lived to write about Runes. No, it's just that the reaction caused the curvature to collapse and let the Unknown show itself to you through the tears."

"The Unknown?" Aegon frowned. "What?"

"Do you really want to know? Just a mere glance almost destroyed your body," Liliana rolled her eyes. "It's termed Unknown for a reason. Though, I'll give you a hint. It's related to teleportation. And no, don't think about it."

Aegon groaned. "That's an impossible task. Let's focus on the Rune so I don't think about that."

"The reaction showed its sensitive nature, so how are you going to overcome it?" Liliana asked.

"Through materials," Aegon smiled, though he didn't move much. "Right materials could solve anything, Senior. The crazy guy went wrong here because the Rune is sensitive to most materials."

Liliana nodded in understanding. "You plan to find the right ingredients, engrave them with this Rune so that there's a medium for connection. The product could then theoretically work like a Kalam."

She paused, as she turned to look at the space which had collapsed previously and repaired itself in no time. The world healed faster than anything else.

"Unlike Kalam, this can fool the world into thinking that a Soul Cultivator is using it. Impressive. Except, we don't have a battery to store Soul Essence, so how will others use it?"

"First of all, we'll need to add more Runes and make sure the materials are suitable both for hosting the Rune and also interacting with the Soul Essence like Kalam does."

Aegon corrected her before continuing.

"As for the other things, I'll find a way out of it too. I've already created a mana battery once anyway. Heck, I can even steal Soul Essence of others, so I can build a Rune Formation that steals their Soul Essence."

"You can do that?" Liliana blinked in surprise.

Aegon grinned and said, "Do you know how Soul Essence works? Actually, Soul Essence isn't real. What we use is a reflection of our authority in the Main Consciousness, changed into the form of Soul Essence since everything in this world has essence."

"It's an Absolute Law, so it follows for Souls this way," Liliana said. "Does that mean there isn't Soul Essence in the Main Consciousness?"

"Nope. Not quite. It's all quite weird up there," Aegon said, cupping his chin. "That's a talk for another time. What I want to say is, theoretically I can make something so that people I hired will get their Soul Essence stolen."

"It won't work."
