Even without Liliana telling him, Aegon knew it was a stupid plan. He had studied Soul Cultivation deeply under Kai, and he never spared any effort in teaching him everything he knew.
One's Soul wielded authority in the Main Consciousness from which every single Soul originated. That authority reflected in the physical plane as Soul Essence, so technically affecting Soul Essence never actually affected souls at all.
One grew powerful in Soul Cultivation by increasing their authority in the Main Consciousness, which allowed them more Soul Essence to use.
But a normal person couldn't access their Soul, which meant they wielded low authority. That resulted in low Soul Essence, so even if Aegon used his idea, it wouldn't work.
After all, the essence took time to form again and, in a way, it was part of one's being, so using it so much would also drain them. Unless he amassed thousands of people daily to have them drained, it wouldn't work.
'Stupid idea.'
Shaking his head, he said, "I know. But I'm pretty sure I can make a battery for Soul Essence too. Wait! Let me check something."
Aegon took out a set of materials he always kept in his storage ring along with the Mana Battery box. His golden eyes took on a purple hue as he studied the materials and compared them to the Mana Battery.
Then, he began the work of forging them together in the perfect rhythm he wanted. Fortunately, he had powerful flames and many things to help with it.
Like [Master Blacksmith].
Of course, he had used the system in the smithing department and gotten this skill. Unlike cooking, he didn't have a love for smithing, so he didn't hesitate to assimilate with it.
That was how he had created all those failed products for the mana battery himself. It wasn't an easy task, but he did it effortlessly. After all, he was now a Master Blacksmith, so forging mystical items in a suitable rhythm came easily to him.
And that's what he did.
Without a care for the world, he spent almost half an hour forging to make a small brown stone.
Huffing, he placed it on the table and thrust his finger into it… only for it to explode a second later.
"Fucking hell! What's wrong with it? The rhythm was right!"
He cursed as he was flung away and crashed into the wall. With a quick jump, he came back, threw the stone aside, and took out more materials.
The forging began once again.
Liliana watched the spectacle with interest as she moved back to give him space. Then, she flicked her fingers as a barrier rose all around the room, also reinforcing everything inside it.
'He is cute!' She thought with a smile as he failed once again and came back cursing the heavens.
She felt amused seeing how he had completely forgotten about her, that she was also there with him. It was as if a sudden enlightenment made him forget everything about the world.
That was why he kept cursing and trying out new ideas. Each failure damaged him, but also improved him further.
Stubborn as he was, Aegon didn't back away even once and continued with his experiments.
Liliana recognized that thrill in his eyes. It was the thrill a creator got every time they were creating something new. She had felt it back then too.
She waved her hand and created an isolation barrier around herself, then took out a communication stone. She hesitated for a moment before contacting it.
The call was soon connected, but no voice came from the other side, and Liliana's gaze remained stuck on Aegon working intensively on the new idea. So neither spoke for a few minutes.
[Sis. I'm not in the mood to spout nonsense, so if you're here for that, please disconnect.]
"That's fine, dear," Liliana smiled and said.
[YOU TALKED?]
Liliana looked down at the communication stone, her smile threatening to fade.
She had contacted Xiu many times in the past sixteen years, to ask how she was, how Aegon was, and even about the well-being of Arnold. She didn't have the courage to face them, so she wanted to talk, but who knew she couldn't even do that.
Every single time, words choked in her mouth and she never managed to speak. But Xiu knew her well and recounted many things, telling her about everyone's well-being.
She said it was just her venting nonsense, but Liliana knew her too well.
Perhaps Xiu thought that this call would be the same, so she was surprised to hear her voice.
It stung Liliana's heart, as she was reminded once again how she had hurt all of them, including her little sister, the one who supported her since their childhood.
'I need to take a step forward,' she reminded herself as she raised her head to look at Aegon. He was still failing and wasting materials, but not once did his grin leave his face.
He didn't shy away from failures.
"I'm watching Aegon," she said. "He's a good kid. Actually, that's an understatement. He's the best child one can ask for."
[.... jealous? Heheh! Not giving him to you, though. Not even sharing. Sorry, sis, but he's one thing I can't share with you. He's my little baby.]
"No one is taking him away from you," Liliana rolled her eyes. "And do you even remember how you used to share your things? Mom bought a cake for you and you gave me ten percent of it, saying you share everything with me."
[Hey, at least I shared it with you. No one else got a share.]
"Yeah, right," Liliana snorted, then paused. "How have you been?"
[Xiu is fine like wine. And don't change the subject, why did you call me? Is it related to Little Sun?]
"Kind of," Liliana nodded. "He suddenly forgot about me and began working on something."
[Hmm, seems familiar. Where have I seen this? Ah! Yeah, my sister used to do the same. Once she even kept me hungry for two days because of her experiments. What a cruel woman, won't you agree?]
For once in the last sixteen years, Liliana felt annoyed at something. She really wanted to go and smack Xiu's head for talking so much.
