My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 217: Bring Your Own Ingredients

"Dad, give me a fishing rod."

Lin Feng took a fishing rod from Lin Dashan and, putting on a show, cast his line out.

The initial result isn't bad, he thought. Looks like I won't go home empty-handed today.

Nearby, Lin Dahu laughed. "Youngest, you gave him the cheapest rod? Can he even catch a fish with that?"

Lin Feng was speechless.

Lin Dashan chuckled. "He definitely won't catch anything. He'll still have to rely on us. Hahaha!"

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Lin Feng's fishing rod began to twitch. Lin Feng gave a tug and then a flick of the rod. On the hook was a lively, palm-sized fish.

Lin Dahu laughed.

Lin Dashan couldn't sit still. "Son, let's trade."

"Alright," Lin Feng agreed.

The two cast their lines once more, and Lin Dashan sat back, eagerly waiting for a bite. But this time, everyone else caught a fish. He was the only one who came up empty-handed!

He felt he was about to lose interest in his favorite hobby.

Lin Feng took his catch to the galley to make soup. Lin Dahu comforted his brother, "Fishing is like that. Don't be impatient; sometimes it's just a matter of luck."

It's also good for cultivating one's character, he mused. My own temper has improved a lot.

As Lin Feng went into the small kitchen to prepare the fish soup, he overheard his Second Aunt on the phone with her daughter.

"You really want to be with that man? You've only known him for two months! Why not get to know him better before making a decision? Fine, fine. If you insist on doing it this way, there's nothing I can do. You're grown up now and have your own ideas. Do as you see fit."

Zhou Cuilan offered her a few words of comfort, then got up and went to the bedroom to see if her little grandchildren had woken up.

After the babies woke up, Lin Feng fed them some of the fish soup.

"Let's go see the fishing!"

"Wow, me too, me too! Daddy, I want to go too!"

"Daddy, are there lots of fishies in the water?"

"Wow, there's so much water here!"

"Daddy, hug me, I want to see the fishies."

For the babies' safety, Lin Feng could only let them play on the deck. Of course, they wouldn't have it, clamoring and fussing to go see the fishing.

With no other choice, Lin Feng carried two of the babies, while the other adults each took one of the remaining children by the hand. They all stood guard, watching the children's every move to prevent them from falling overboard.

After half an hour, the three men had some decent catches. Lin Dahu caught a three-pound fish that was now swimming back and forth in their bucket.

The babies gathered around the bucket, watching in awe.

Suddenly, Sibao cried out, "Ah, a snake! It's a snake!"

The babies were startled.

It turned out Lin Dashan had caught a large white eel, which was writhing on the hook. The sight immediately sent Sibao into tears.

Zhang Yuxi quickly scooped Sibao up and took him inside to comfort him.

Sanbao's face paled, and she turned and scampered back inside as well.

Erbao, being a girl, was so frightened she clung to Lin Feng, burrowing into his embrace and calling frantically, "Daddy, Daddy..."

Lin Feng picked her up. "Don't be scared, don't be scared. Daddy's here..."

In comparison, Dabao and Sibao were quite brave. The two of them approached the bucket cautiously, a mixture of excitement and fear on their faces.

Lin Daan laughed. "Well now, these two are brave, aren't they? Not scared at all by such a big eel! Impressive!"

Lin Dashan said, "These two are the most mischievous; they aren't afraid of anything."

And indeed, the two boys stretched their necks to get a better look, their faces beaming with excitement.

"Look, it's moving!" Sibao exclaimed, mimicking the eel's writhing motion with his body.

Dabao turned his head to ask Lin Feng, "Daddy, will it bite?"

Lin Dahu nodded gravely. "It will. It's very aggressive."

The two children scrambled back several steps in fright.

Reassured by her father's presence, Erbao wasn't so scared anymore. "Daddy, let's go look, let's go look."

Lin Feng carried her over, and Erbao peeked cautiously. The moment she saw the eel move, she quickly buried her face in her father's chest.

Does she find this game amusing? A wide, happy smile spread across her face.

Lin Feng placed the buckets—one with fish and one with the eel—on the deck. The one with the eel was covered with a net to prevent it from escaping.

Lin Feng stood by and cast a [Protective Barrier] on each of the children.

They watched it for the rest of the afternoon, not feeling tired in the slightest.

When evening came, it was time to go home. Back at the house, Lin Feng cooked dinner, supervised the babies as they ate, and then told them stories.

In the middle of the night, cries came from Sanbao's little bed.

Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi were jolted awake.

Lin Feng walked over and picked up Sanbao. Sanbao was likely having a nightmare; she was crying her heart out.

Zhang Yuxi asked, "What's wrong?"

Lin Feng guessed, "She might have been scared by the eel from earlier today!"

Holding Sanbao, he soothed her gently, whispering in her ear.

"Sanbao, be good, don't cry, don't cry, Daddy's here... Daddy will protect you, don't be afraid, don't be afraid! Shh, shh, our Sanbao is the bravest little princess, super brave! Sanbao, be good, Daddy's here... *mwah*... Daddy's here!"

Zhang Yuxi went to check on the other babies. Seeing Erbao sleeping restlessly, she gently patted her, soothing her. When Erbao turned over, Zhang Yuxi patted her back.

Sanbao eventually quieted down, and Erbao also fell back into a deep sleep.

"Honey, you should get some sleep."

Zhang Yuxi shook her head. "I can't sleep."

She glanced at Sanbao and went to the restroom. When she came out, Lin Feng had already placed Sanbao back in her little bed.

In the middle of the night, Lin Feng helped the babies go to the toilet, and Sanbao whimpered a little in her sleep.

「The next morning.」

Sanbao was back to being a spirited little princess.

In the afternoon, Zhang Yuxi packed up, preparing to return to Yangcheng the next day.

Lin Rui came over for a visit with Du Yan, and true to his word, he brought his own ingredients, which Zhang Yuxi accepted.

"You should have just come! Why bring all this? We were just about to clear out the fridge anyway," Zhang Yuxi said. "You should take these groceries back and cook them for your own kids."

Lin Rui had bought chicken, fish, live shrimp, and other vegetables.

Lin Feng only accepted the live shrimp—which looked to be over five pounds—to make shrimp balls for the babies. He insisted that Lin Rui take the rest of the food back.

"There's no taking back a gift once it's given," Lin Rui protested.

Lin Feng opened the fridge. "Look, I've still got plenty here. We need to finish everything and clean the fridge before we head back to Yangcheng."

Du Yan glanced at the packed fridge. "Alright, then. We'll take it back."

Lin Feng nodded in approval. "We're all family, no need to be so formal! Besides, would I really make you bring your own food if you came to visit?"

He'd honestly thought Lin Rui was just joking, but he had actually brought everything.
