My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 516 Social Practice

After this incident, the classmates were even more in awe of the quadruplets.

After all, they could only look up to geniuses who could finish their homework in just one hour.

The teachers assigned winter break homework based on each student's exam scores. In addition, there was a practical assignment. During the winter break, students were required to experience jobs like sanitation work. They then had to write a reflection paper on their thoughts and feelings, no less than five thousand words long, and get a genuine evaluation from their temporary employer.

As usual, the quadruplets had the least homework and could finish it all in a single afternoon. However, compared to their classmates who were busy with homework and cram school, the quadruplets weren't exactly relaxing either.

Now that Dabao's laboratory was finally usable, he would hole up inside all day. Sanbao had performances to attend, Sibao had to train for competitions, and Erbao needed to finish her design drafts. After finishing the drafts, Erbao also enrolled in several extracurricular classes, such as indoor rock climbing and women's taekwondo.

The most idle ones were Lin Feng, Zhang Yuxi, and little Xiaobao. Their main job was to cook for the children each day and call them down to eat.

"Honey, are we driving back to our hometown for New Year's this year?" Zhang Yuxi asked as they were on their way to shop for festive goods.

"Let's see how it goes," Lin Feng replied.

The supermarket was crowded. Lin Feng carried Xiaobao while Zhang Yuxi pushed the shopping cart. Xiaobao's cheeks were rosy, probably from the heat, so Lin Feng took off her little vest and began teasing her.

"Wow, look at all the people, huh?"

"And look, there are so many pictures on the wall. Aren't they pretty?"

"Look, here are the toys! This is a car, this is an Ultraman, and this is a Transformer!"

Holding the Ultraman and Transformer figures, Zhang Yuxi thought about how Sibao and Dabao had loved them when they were little. Now they're all grown up and like different things. She felt a wave of nostalgia just thinking about it.

Lin Feng teased Xiaobao, "What do you like, my little treasure? This is a Barbie doll. Do you like it?"

After shopping, they returned home. As soon as they walked in, Zhang Yuxi got busy pulling out the quadruplets' old toys. She had sorted and stored them away neatly during a previous clean-up. She was quite worn out after hauling out the large boxes one by one.

Lin Feng came over. "Why are you doing all this by yourself when you have a husband?"

Zhang Yuxi's tone carried a hint of playful complaint. "I saw you were busy in the kitchen!"

Lin Feng looked at the large boxes. "With all these toys, we won't have to buy new ones for Xiaobao in the future."

These toys were all in good condition; the ones that were broken beyond repair had already been thrown out. The quality of the remaining toys was beyond question, which meant they must have been expensive.

She had originally planned to keep them as mementos, something to show the children when they were older so they could reminisce.

They had mostly stopped buying toys for them starting in the sixth grade. The toys had been stored away for so many years. If it hadn't been for buying toys for Xiaobao at the supermarket today, she wouldn't have even remembered them.

Zhang Yuxi nodded. "That's what I was thinking, too."

The couple opened the boxes.

"Honey, look at this Ultraman. They begged and fussed so much to get this one..."

"And look at this... if I remember correctly, this was one of their toys from when they were just over a year old..."

"Erbao loved this Barbie doll so much! When it broke, we looked everywhere for a replacement but couldn't find one. In the end, you were the one who fixed it!"

Zhang Yuxi called the children downstairs, telling them she had something good to show them. The quadruplets came to the living room and gathered around. The toys were all part of their childhood memories, and they couldn't help but get lost in reminiscence.

Dabao played with a Transformer. It had been purchased from a specialty store and was made of eighty percent alloy. Every joint was articulated, and it still moved with surprising flexibility.

Erbao pulled out an old jewelry box of hers. It was a toy version that mimicked an adult's, with compartments for rings, earrings, and necklaces. Was this from second or third grade? I can't quite remember! Erbao dug through her designated box. She had always loved pretty, eye-catching toys, so many of them were adorned with sequins and shiny, fake diamonds, along with various trinkets she'd picked up from decoration shops.

Zhang Yuxi sat up. "You can each take a few things if you want. The rest of these toys will be for Xiaobao to play with."

The quadruplets each selected a few special items. From the remainder, Zhang Yuxi selected toys suitable for Xiaobao's age. She then took them to be washed, wiped each one dry, and placed them in the sterilizer cabinet for disinfection.

By the time she finished, Lin Feng had dinner ready.

During the meal, Xiaobao woke up in her crib, rolling around and babbling.

Erbao quickly said, "I'll go!"

After wiping her mouth, she went to change Xiaobao's diaper, wash her bottom, and place her in the play area. The area was covered with thick mats and enclosed by a safety fence.

Sanbao, having finished her own meal, came over to play with Xiaobao. Erbao joined them a moment later. Zhang Yuxi only came over to feed Xiaobao after she had finished her own dinner.

On the second day of winter vacation, the quadruplets had already finished their homework and were discussing doing their practical assignment together. The teacher hadn't specified how long it should take, so one of them asked in the group chat.

"Teacher, how many days is the social practice assignment?"

Both Class Seven and Class Four had the same Chinese teacher. Another student immediately chimed in. "Class monitor, how much of your winter homework have you done?"

"Finished it."

A torrent of replies followed.

"That's insane!"

"+1."

"+1."

The uniform column of replies was broken by the teacher's message. "Two days."

"'Got it! You're the best!'" the quadruplet replied.

The four of them huddled together to discuss their plan. Once they decided, they informed Lin Feng.

Lin Feng's gaze shifted to Sibao, who was idly spinning a ball. "Dad, why are you looking at me?" he asked, puzzled.

"You're participating too."

"Oh," Sibao replied. "No problem."

And so, the quadruplets rode their bicycles out to find work. Sanitation workers were a common sight, and near Tiekou, they encountered a woman in her fifties. She was sweeping with a large broom, and when she heard their request, she smiled and shook her head.

"I can't make that decision. You'll have to talk to my supervisor."

Erbao asked with a grin, "Granny, how can we find your supervisor?"

The elderly woman took a great liking to the quadruplets, finding them both adorable and polite. "Follow me," she said warmly. "I'll take you there."

Sanbao asked with concern, "Granny, won't this interrupt your work?"

The woman assured them it wouldn't. "I was heading that way anyway. It's on my route."

At the office, after the staff heard their purpose, they agreed to let them experience the job. They even issued each of them a work uniform and tools. As for their cleaning area, that would be assigned by the person in charge of the route.

When the supervisor saw them, he looked a little surprised. "Do your parents know about this?"

Dabao, acting as the representative, said, "Our parents are aware of it. If you're worried, this is our father's phone number. You can call him to confirm."

After the supervisor spoke with Lin Feng on the phone, his expression relaxed.

"Alright, come on. I'll plan out your work assignments..."

Erbao and Sanbao, being the girls, were assigned to clean the areas around two subway exits located across the road from each other. The boys were assigned more arduous tasks: their routes were longer, farther away, and most importantly, included a garbage dump.

"You'll start cleaning promptly at four-thirty tomorrow morning. Just do whatever the regular workers do," the supervisor instructed. "It's for two days, right? When you're done, you can come to me to get the paperwork signed."

The supervisor wasn't blind. He could tell at a glance that these kids weren't from an ordinary family. Hothouse flowers like them couldn't handle real hardship; they were just going through the motions for a school assignment.

After giving his instructions, the supervisor went off to attend to other matters.

When the quadruplets returned home, Lin Feng asked about the arrangements. "Alright then," he said. "I'll wake you at four tomorrow morning for breakfast. Go get some sleep now."
