When Ethan opened his eyes in the real world he saw that the soldiers he created were still there, equipped with their swords and shields, in contrast the massive soldier Jeriel created was gone. The guardian looked towards the edge of the mountaintop, his feather standing up and he had a dangerous glint in his eyes. He looked down at Ethan.
I forget to tell you, [Arctic Reinforcement] can also be used to heal your wounds, albeit at an even slower rate. Still it might be useful in this upcoming battle. I already instructed your elven friends, the only one missing are you and me. Alas I can't support you in the fight, not directly. With the amalgamation of evil spirits being so close I can't let my egg remain here unprotected.
Remember Ethan, you are in control. There is a reason you chose the class you have currently. While big attacks are possible, even very strong ones, your role is to control the battle.
The guardian lowered his head, both of them stared into each other's eyes. Jeriel touched his memories and said words he would never forget.
After your parents died you wanted nothing else than control over your own life, that's why you're here. That is why you picked an element that gave you the power of control and that's why you're here, a progenitor, an heir to a throne long vacant. Until now you got directed from the beginning of the tutorial, just as you expected. While I certainly was part of that deception I want you to understand that soon your happiness will be your own.
The guardian, Jeriel lifted his head and screamed at the skies. Its power shook the world as a cocoon of ice slowly formed around him, covering the egg and himself. His voice, infused with pure aura and the promise of an icy death, slammed into Ethan's thoughts.
Your sister can still be saved Ethan Delaney, in the system nothing is truly lost if you can pay the price!
Now go and fight alongside the people I protected for hundreds of years.
The cocoon closed itself around Jeriel and all the power, aura and pure strength he radiated vanished. Ethan stumbled backwards, tripping over a stone only to be caught by two of his ice soldiers. He started at the sphere in front of him, the information he received was the best news he received in years. A way to bring his sister back with the help of the system. Of course he quickly tried to reach the system, scream at it, plead with it but it stayed silent.
He wanted nothing more than to believe the guardian and bring his sister back to life. But for that he needed level, power and favour with the system. Using his will he ordered the soldiers to let him go, after giving one last long look to the cocoon he moved out, his feet carrying him to the edge of the mountain.

When he arrived he had no time to look for Lorena or one of the other commanders, in his absence the evil spirits already started their attack. Undead birds, the same ones that attacked them on the way up here descended from the sky, attacking the elves. Wordless commands brought the soldiers into a ring formation around him, Ethan was used to using his magic like he wanted but the guardian was right he was the [Wizard of Glacial Chains] for a reason.
Holding his makeshift ice staff in one hand he started to cast his magic, chains ridden with spikes erupted from the ground around him, swatting those undead freaks from the sky. He directed them with his full concentration, protecting the elves that were constantly shooting arrows or magic at those flying fucks.
Whenever necessary he sends his soldiers out in pairs to defend others or drag them to safety into Ethan's ring of protection. At this point around him was a complex net of chains that attacked like the tentacles of an octopus, attacking everything that came too close to them. For now his mana was keeping steady, creating them was drawing some of it but as long as they stay intact they're fairly easy to maintain.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
At some point the attacks on them stopped and Ethan had his soldiers carry the elves that were unconscious while the ones that could still fight were resuming their positions. Ethan planned to go around the entire mountaintop and relieve some pressure from the constant attacks. Lucky for him the mountaintop itself was tiny compared to the base of it. Still he took his time, taking out monsters that stood in his way and helped the elves he could while dropping the wounded off with the healers.
After he walked around half of the mountaintop he stopped to see Lorena who was currently fighting against some weird mixture of bear and mountain lion, looking like a war goddess as she stood there on the corpse of another bear thing, thrusting a spear into the undead beast's eye.
Ethan didn't hesitate and summoned new chains; the spike-covered chains had a hook at the tip this time while lodged itself into the bear-lion and locked it in place. Lorena saw the chance and thrust the spear into the bear's neck, moving it back and forth in an effort to cut the connection between head and body.
While Ethan would have helped her there were still more of those beasts climbing over the edge, the sky was thick with undead birds that attacked the elves again. Creating a tall ice block under him he saw that this point was the shortest distance to the guardian. He cracked his neck and started to work his magic again, expending a lot more mana this time.
Usually he used small amounts or a literal explosion that left him wounded, but the steady stream that moved through his mana channels was taxing in a different way, he kept it up but would need to rest at some point and not because of depleting all his mana but because he didn't have the stamina to keep up such a constant stream of mana.
The mana he used was not only to power his new ice soldiers but also the dozens of chains that were attacking or trapping the creatures that made their way to the mountaintop. Lorena and her comrades were hard at work killing the undead but their nature made it a lot more difficult. Some of them died easily with the swipe of a sword or the thrust of a spear.
Everything the elves didn't get was Ethan's responsibility, chains wrapped together to have more weight, launching undead creatures over the edge, single ones without a hook at the tip smacking birds from the sky or slammed into smaller undead that tried to go around them. While the ones with hooks wrapped around the big enemies, helping the elves or straight up pulling their heads from their bodies.
While the concentration needed was immense, he managed. Nora, who was no longer suppressed by the guardian's power, launched herself into the fight. While he lost his poison she was still a snake, her teeth inflicting dead tissue left and right, making especially the small undead freeze from the inside.
The fight was going well so far, the undead didn't managed to overwhelm them and all of them were holding the line. Well until they heard a loud growl from below, a massive paw landed on the edge of the mountaintop, quickly followed by a second. A frankenstein creature pulled itself up, instead of a head it had eight wolf heads arranged around a ninth in the middle. Ethan was worried for a moment but when he didn't see the white head of Pale among them he relaxed slightly.
The wolf hydra flexed its muscles and jumped upwards, landing on the corpses of the slain undead, all of its heads growling loudly. How it could even be this agile was a mystery to Ethan but he quickly attacked the wolf, chains erupted from the ground around it and tried to lodge themselves into the undead flesh of the monster. To his surprise they literally bounced off and got redirected.
A laugh sounded out, at first it was normal but slowly other voices added itself to the laugh and it sounded like a choir was all laughing at the same time, the sense of insanity Ethan got from this laugh made him shiver. A mass of black ooze slid over the edge and flowed onto the wolf, it was constantly moving, eyes, mouth and tongues appearing and disappearing in irregular intervals.
The laughing didn't stop but Ethan knew what this was, the bad spirits that were housed in James body before, the evil they needed to destroy before they could reach the guardian.
It was the last enemy and challenge of the tutorial.
