Wasteland Development Diary

Chapter 148 Embrace Death for Rebirth

Upon arrival at Sand Port, A Jin immediately called for support. They had the samurai crabs carry Xie Tu and rushed him to Maria Hospital for emergency treatment.

About two hours later.

The operating room doors opened.

Doctor Da Vinci emerged and said, "The excision and suturing were both very successful. Weapon Master's resistance to injury and recovery abilities are very strong, Xie Tu can be discharged in one to two months."

A Jin completely relieved, set his mind at ease.

In Xie Tu's hospital room, he saw a familiar old face.

A Jin was astonished: "Captain, you're here too? What happened to you?"

Xie Xun lay on the bed, his body wrapped in bandages, arms and claws set in thick plaster, while Nurse Lily from the refrigerator was taking his temperature.

"A Jin? That's... Xie Tu, what kind of situation did you guys encounter?"

A Jin recounted the tale to him.

"Xie Tu is a perceptive warrior; it's indeed something he would do."

Speaking of himself, Xie Xun's tone turned somewhat bitter: "This... happened because of the electric cat."

"Why would the electric cat injure you like this? Our Scavenger Team doesn't handle training cats, right? Did you end up fighting with an electric cat, Captain?"

A Jin was puzzled.

It turned out that Xie Xun had applied for a work electric cat to try and train to become a Spark Knight.

Following Ye Zhao, he called upon an electric cat in the Dead Sea to fuse with. Instead, he was only left with burns all over his body, incapable of achieving a fusion with the electric cat.

"I consulted with Ye Zhao in advance and used the Electric Cat Transcoder to question many electric cats including No. 5 Thunderbolt and Pikachu, and also inquired about those failed experiences."

Xie Xun, sitting at the bedside, said, "One of the prerequisites is mutual trust between the electric cat and its holder. That's no longer a problem for us; the company's work electric cats, guided and taught by Pikachu and No. 5 Thunderbolt, have high recognition for their own people."

"The second condition is to connect with the Cat House as a conductor, which is somewhat dangerous and equates to integrating an electric current into the body. I ended up getting electrocuted into this state during the process."

"The third is to have a strong physique, preferably an E-ranked life at least."

"The fourth, which is my own speculation, a near-death experience."

The Scavenger Captain spoke earnestly, "The hardest part is the fourth point. It is challenging to control; if you're not careful, it could cause actual death."

"Ye Zhao initially activated and fused with it while in a near-death state. It ingested the Cat House, causing a lot of glass shards and metal coils to pierce its internal organs. The electric cat, having lost a stable carrier, came out and caused Ye Zhao to suffer from heavy bleeding and internal organ rupture."

"Fortunately, it stabilized the injuries in the Spark Knight form, and the hospital performed surgery to remove the fragments from its body and allowed it to recuperate for quite some time."

"I believe the key was that both it and the electric cat, under the instinctual will to survive, made the most likely choice for survival. The near-death experience is a crucial external condition."

A Jin listened with admiration.

The Captain truly is the Scavenger Team's smartest brain.

"So I'm now struggling, unsure how to test the fourth point. That degree is very hard to control."

Xie Xun suddenly said, "A Jin, help me. You stab me a couple of times, then I'll crush the Cat House to see if it can be successful."

A Jin waved his hands hastily: "No way, no way, a slight mistake and you could die. Absolutely not!"

"Sigh..."

The Scavenger Captain sighed, "If we don't take risks, we'll never get past this hurdle. We won't be able to find the true metamorphosis method of the Spark Knight. Human and cat symbiosis is significant for the further development of the electric cat."

"Our Scavenger Team hasn't had any noteworthy achievements in recent years. Although we've collected quite a lot of materials from Divine Era Ruins and completed partial mapping of the Dead Sea floor, all departments are changing with each passing day, yet we're still going in circles... I really am not fit to be Captain."

A Jin glanced at Xie Tu, who was unconscious on the neighboring bed.

The Weapon Masters are all daring to think and act, even recklessly to the point of risking their lives.

He suddenly had an idea: "Captain, if you want to test, I happen to have a good candidate."

"It meets the four conditions you described."

"Trustworthy, conductive connection, robust physique, and it has a near-death state."

"Are you serious!?"

A Jin led the Captain to the northwestern hills, far from the company.

The dilapidated, crumbling Building 7 startled and puzzled Xie Xun: "Why not go to Building A for treatment if it's so badly damaged?"

"It refuses to go."

A Jin slapped the wall, and immediately dust and peelings fluttered down from it.

"Don't be deceived by appearances, Building 7 has a stubborn streak. It doesn't want to be seen by Building A in such a wretched and pitiful state, probably finds it too embarrassing. It doesn't self-repair, kind of fighting with itself; it seems this is its way of punishing itself."

"After all, it was previously beaten by a group of Red Monsters to the point of near dormancy... It's very upset with its own failure."

After years of acquaintance, A Jin has come to understand quite a bit about this Building Life.

Although it's not a combat type like Building 5, it has a strong-willed and bold character. It dares to act, which is why it tried to help the White Smoke Mushroom brothers regain their honor, and it simply couldn't stand the provocation of the Red Monsters, even if it led to a desperate fight.

The character of this Building Life is actually quite vivid—an utterly trustworthy, loyal friend.

"It perfectly meets the four conditions you mentioned, Captain."

A Jin said, "Want to give it a try? The Building Life is very durable, not afraid of electric currents, and it also belongs to the Jade City series, structurally almost identical to Building A; the electric cats should naturally be sympathetic to it."
