Chapter 294: The world’s protagonist

"D-defeated?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. Those thousands of monsters were defeated in just a single attack from a single person!"

Really?!

All the people present in the GreatHall, even the heroes, were astounded when they heard the messenger's report.

For real?! A single attack obliterated the thousands of monsters? That was unbelievable.

The otherworlder heroes knew how strong the monsters in this world were because they had fought many monsters since the day they arrived in this world.

Although there were weak monsters, there were also super strong ones that needed cooperation to kill. Like people, their strength was also separated through ranks. What rank they belong to depends on their strength.

If you think about it carefully… There were thousands of monsters in that scene, so it was impossible that there were no high-ranked monsters in that horde, no? Alright, assuming that there were only low-rank monsters, it still seemed impossible to defeat that number of monsters with just one single attack.

So their question is… What kind of AOE attack was used by the person mentioned by the messenger? This question emerged in the heroes' minds.

"How is that possible? Are you certain about it?" The Minister of Defense asked in haste.

"Yes, Minister. I'm one of those who have witnessed it with his own eyes…" From here, the messenger's face looked more serious as he started recounting what happened that night, "…it was a huge explosion. The explosion didn't only obliterate the thousands of monsters but also destroyed one-third of the town."

"D-destroyed one-third of the town?" Someone in the room repeated the words in disbelief.

Not only killed the thousands of monsters but also destroyed one-third of the town? What kind of attack can do that?!

Hero Roy clenched his fist secretly and gritted his teeth. He couldn't believe there was such a person like that out there.

Is it Kyle? Arthur? Or maybe Reena?' As far as he knows, Reena was currently on a mission. Arthur and Kyle on the other hand were busy with something:

He believes that aside from them, the heroes, there were no other stronger humans in this world. They were special because they were the heroes. And he… he was meant to become the Mc of this world.

"Yes, one-third of the Merc Town was turned to ashes," the messenger repeated to make sure everyone in the room understood his words.

Murmurs were coming from around him after saying that again.

"One-third turned to ashes?"

"What kind of power can do that?"

"Even a Heavenly Stage expert can't do that."

"Yeah."

"Is there someone in the empire who has surpassed the Heaven Stage?"

"No one came to mind. What about you?"

"No, I didn't hear."

"Right?"

"Mhm!"

As murmurs started growing, the messenger opened his mouth again.

"Your Majesty. The truth is, few monsters have survived— those that were away from the explosion, but their numbers were just so little. They are now hiding somewhere in the town, so we can say that the town right now is currently still inhabitable by its citizens. The mayor had already formed a search party though— to hunt them."

"I see that's a good move by the mayor. In any case, who is that person who defeated those thousands of monsters? Did you get his identity?" This was what everyone wanted to know as well; the identity of that person that the messenger was talking about.

The messenger frowned and looked somewhat down. "Sorry, Your Majesty. We couldn't get his identity because he was wearing a strange mask like those people who saved the citizens as well. Nonetheless, he disappeared after killing those monsters."

"Is that so? It's regrettable, but there's nothing we can do if he wants to hide his identity. By the way, what do you mean when you say 'like those other people as well'? Did someone else help in the crisis?"

"Yes, according to the citizens and even the Second-in-Command Officer Hern. They stated that there was a group of masked people who helped evacuate the citizens to the safe area. Everyone believed that those masked people and the masked person who caused the explosion were of the same group."

"And Your Majesty, since the danger caused by those monsters is mostly resolved by now, Lieutenant Davis hoped to hold a mass ritual for the funeral of our fallen comrades in that place. In that sense, he begged to delay the original task if possible."

"Is the Lieutenant still committed to continuing the task? Hasn't he lost many of his men? Is he fine? He can rest for a while, you know. I can ask another person to handle the task for him."

"Please, Your Majesty, the lieutenant wanted to finish the task!!!"

"Insolence! Are you raising your voice to His Majesty?!" One of the ministers hollered at the messenger.

"Uh… eh… no I didn't mean to… please forgive my insolence!" The messenger immediately prostrated.

"Nah, nah, I understand. In any case, so… the lieutenant still wanted to continue the task, is it?" Muttered the emperor.

"Yes, Your Majesty. Please allow it!"

Everyone turned their heads toward the emperor.

"How many of his men were left?" The emperor asked.

"Only 25 along with the lieutenant."

"Hmm… So they lost so many in that crisis…"

The emperor leaned his back on his seat while massaging his temple.

But judging their situation in that crisis, isn't it understandable to lose that many? Perhaps, it was more shocking that some of them had luckily survived, the emperor thought.

The emperor then stood up from his seat, "Alright, send a message to Lieutenant Davis to wait for the additional troops before they continue their task!"

"Are we sending it through the Divine Tablet?"

"No. Use the messenger bird!"

"But Your Majesty, if we send more troops there, we're weakening our defenses here!" The Minister of Defense said. "Please reconsider your decision!"

"Hm… you're right but don't worry. I will do something about our defenses here."

"That won't do! Your Majesty isn't serious about it. Did you forget that you almost lost your lives a while ago from the assassins?!"

"Eh? Someone tried to assassinate His Majesty?" One of the heroes asked in bewilderment.

The other heroes were also shocked when they heard that. They didn't know that something like that had happened while they were away. Even the messenger, who had just heard about it now, had a shocked expression on his face.

The minister nodded his head.

"So what happened? The guards caught them?" Asked another hero.

"No. A guest of honor helped His Majesty from the assassins."

"Really? A guest?"

"Who is that?"

"He's a young man who performed well in the recent subjugation mission, isn't it, Your Majesty?"

"Yes."

Hero Roy's hands were trembling, it could be seen that he was clenching them very hard.

He couldn't accept that a random person did some more shocking achievements than him, the hero! The supposed protagonist of this world!

"Your majesty! Please send me to that place!"

Eh?!

Everyone gawked when Hero Roy aka Dark Raven suddenly announced that.

He didn't want to become a side character only. It was about time that the world must learn of his greatness.

And show them that he was this world's protagonist!
