The talk with Darien gave Kurt a lot to think about. Apparently, he wasn't even what he thought he was, or was yet. It must have been that red aura he could tap into sometimes just not very well. It seemed to come out when he needed stress and adrenaline. When Kurt was in a battle his mind would lock into a flow sometimes that's when he felt it most.
If there was a seed that needed to bloom, how would that even work? It obviously was some metaphor for it but Kurt didn't know where to start. He thought he was strong and Lich explained to him that wasn't very true at all. A dragon, snakes, and spiders large enough to see humans as food.
"So what are we going to tell them?" said Talia.
"How about the truth this time?" said Kurt. "The True sorcerer came up in conversation and Darien apparently was also looking for him. The news from Castle Bright Flame seemed to make him go off."
"I guess that works leaving out the parts about you?"
"Yeah."
So of course again the whole trip did not go according to plan they had never even gotten to the main castle and came back to Talia's. Kurt preferred that he didn't want to deal with the whole nobility here. They went to Justin's mana well and found him there. And told him what happened.
"I didn't know he was looking for him," said Justin, " we haven't spoken. He did appear soon after his arrival though it makes sense in the timeline if he was ordered to."
"So what do you think everyone will do here?"
"Panic as always," said Justin. "It'll be fine, it's not the first time he's ever left."
A goblin walked into the well, one that Kurt recognized as one of the ones they had sent to try and communicate with anything in the surrounding area.
"Hey, have you found anything?"
"A few things, sir. But I don't think there will be much help out there."
"And why is that?"
"The major powers seem unlikely to cooperate much."
"Major powers?"
"There is an Emperor anaconda and an Arachnid Queen who consider the area as their hunting ground. Humans would be on the menu. As well as goblins. Some great toads and lizards have small camps but mostly because their meat is poisonous so the snakes and spiders avoid eating them. They have no way to defend others unfortunately. The spiders tend to stay in the trees and the snakes in the ground and swamp water. You would have to take the leaders out to claim that would not be easy."
"That's too bad," said Kurt.
"Yes, but it mostly turns into a swamp area eventually as well this area is just a bit more elevated than the surrounding. We may have better luck if we can go a little further down the coast instead of away from it. See if we can find some sand and get away from the swamp behind us."
"That would mean going on the train," said Justin.
"It would and that is why we are stalled," said the goblin. "There isn't much we can do here. They will hunt and eat you and me. You have to decide if their swamp land is worth taking. I don't believe it is. This area is much more habitable. But I don't plan on being either of their meals. One anaconda is hard enough, it's a whole swamp full of them. And if the trees are full of Arachnid webs it would take a lot. We were probably lucky we saw the camps first and talked to them."
"So we have to renegotiate where you are stationed?" said Kurt.
"If you expect a possibility of better results. If there are reports that could be read about what is where I might have a better idea. The information is in a language I can't really read."
"Talk to Betsy about that."
"Who's Betsy sir?"
"The new office manager, you'll see her near the gate. She might be able to find someone to read it to you."
"That would be appreciated," said the goblin.
Kurt had done a favor to Justin to bring the goblin back to the Pillar as the goblin was to inform the rest of the council as well. This would have been told to him eventually with or without the goblin. Maybe not as personally. It would be important if the goblins couldn't establish any good relationships their worth to the Valentine clan would be low. Which could affect future negotiations. Layla was informed soon after.
Things did start looking up though. When he arrived at the top of Pillar Harvey was there and in two of his mouths there were large fish. The river had finally brought something they could fish together. At least hopefully.
"Look what I caught, master!" said Harvey's remaining head.
"That's awesome," said Kurt, "are there more?"
"Yes, many!"
As Kurt was making his way down to the water and trying out the fishing pole he had made and hadn't used yet. He looked upon the walls and the murals of the story of Neptune. He would need someone to give him a proper telling of it now. Something told him that it would be helpful.
There were apparently scrolls to read about it. He would probably need those read to him just like the goblins need their language read to them. He kept telling himself he'd do it but everything. It seemed more important maybe it wasn't all along.
When he exited the Pillar he could see the ivy had fully overtaken it, a luscious green surrounded and hugged the entire pillar. No more wastelands, the basin was more of a pond. The life of the area was still growing strong. And that means more problems now doesn't it?
The pool did have some fish in it now, Lily pads, and some frogs and other small animals. A growing section of flowering bushes. There was a peaceful section that was still above the water Lurt had found with Harvey. Casting a line into the waters, Kurt tried to relax a little. Harvey lay down next to him, close enough to get pets, though.
