Chapter 146: Time with Harvey

Kurt was enjoying the peaceful air, but the pond wasn't peaceful because of the large waterfall but the waves gave a soothing sound. He was sitting down and Harvey had put one of his heads on Kurt's lap. The large Hydra acted more like a cat or a dog than the insane monster it was. He ate those fish raw and whole.

Kurt enjoyed fishing and finally had a place near his house to actually do it without the fish. What's the point? He mostly caught and released. But kept some of the larger ones. The river must have hit something with fish and hopefully, that would help feed everyone as well. Harvey had his share, Kurt realized he probably should spend a bit more time with him as he was kind of powerful he didn't know the full extent really.

The next day Kurt decided to take Harvey out into the land away from anything important. See how much he could really do.

Harvey was hopping around enjoying the attention "What do you want to do"

"I want you to show me what you can do. Are you strong?"

"Harvey strong!"

Harvey let loose a breath of fire. But Kurt had seen that before, "it wasn't as impressive after a while."

Harvey looked at Kurt seeing that he wasn't very impressed, "Harvey is just starting."

Harvey then let out a water jet, still not very impressive. However, after he was able to take two of his heads and twist them together, a spiral of Fire and Water. The steam would pop on impact as well. That could be interesting of course but Kurt wanted to see the illusions at work. But before that, he asked.

"Can you only do streams, no short powerful bursts," said Kurt.

Harvey attempted to make shorter bursts, it seemed to work a little with the water but not so much with the flames. No fireballs coming out of his mouth, since water was more physical it would remain. Trying a double shot caused it to explode shortly in front of Harvey instead of on impact. So that wouldn't be very helpful either. At least he had multiple heads to do it with.

Kurt then instructed Harvey to show him some of his improvements with the illusions. He seemed to only be able to make three, and one seemed to be not as good as the other three which would include the real one at times.

"Harvey head control illusion," said Harvey.

"That makes sense," said Kurt.

Then something undetected happened: two different illusions shot out fire and not illusionary fire. Harvey could use his abilities through the illusions. It appears limited to only two.

"Why only two?"

"The third head maintains the illusion," said Harvey.

That all started to make sense, with his three heads he could do a lot but there was still a limit to his ability to process it. Most likely a fourth head would improve everything as well. That also examines why one of the four was a bit slower than the rest.

"Harvey can make many illusions but all are simple."

Then dozens of Harvey all charged forward" Kurt understood that concept the more control you put over the illusion the harder it is to maintain. But for Harvey, it wouldn't make sense to do that often, since a minimal amount could all be potentially dangerous.

"See Harvey strong," Harvey hopped around pounding the ground. "Harvey has other abilities, if the Master wants me to show."

"Okay," said Kurt. Then one of Harvey's heads moved in a way that caught Kurt's eye facing it. Then the world around Harvey spun and twisted, forming into a hellish scape of fire and explosions. He forgot about Harvey and was shocked at what the world had turned into, then the world snapped back. And Harvey was right up next to him, easily would have bitten if there was an enemy. "What was that?"

"Have made illusion in your eyes, not everyone's"

Kurt thought about that until now he was trying to put something out there, but not into the mind of someone. Was that possible? Their ability came from the same source, so possibly. He'd have to figure that out somehow. He had thought about large-scale illusions before but they were too cumbersome to imagine properly and took a lot more mana. Something like making a hole look like grass, sure. Making a full-blown earthquake was too much.

Kurt thought about the experience, which was mostly twisting and adding accents rather than anything else. Disoriented and something that would make you question what happened. It was actually a much smaller change when you put the pieces together it added up to more.

Harvey and Kurt continued to see how they could work together. Harvey had grown enough to ride but really not for long, perhaps if he were a child or a smaller girl. It became obvious that the growth was continuing. But slowed. Harvey might need to grow another head. If that was an often thing. Kurt started to copy Harvey's form in order to mix it for a switch to it. They also figured out a few ways to combine their illusions to make a massive fake charge.

With a bit of practice, it looked almost real as both large amounts of Kurt and large amounts of Harvey. Harvey would mix up the sizes better than Kurt so the Harvey stampede was especially convincing. Not many people could tell one hydra apart from another like a human.

Harvey's abilities were a bit different but similar. Harvey attempted to make a water fist but it never seemed to work either as a head or a tail whip. The effect just wasn't the same and made things more wet than hurt.

Kurt needed a little time like this because soon he would have to head to the capital of the nation. He knew that would be a whole other problem just waiting for them.
