Chapter 150: Trains

While Kurt was looking out the window, he saw another train heading away from where they were going. That seemed strange but they could have been going back for more reinforcements. There wasn't much to do on the train except look out. Talia though shoved her way to the window.

"That train is not supposed to be going in that direction."

"What do you mean?"

She looked out the other side of the train. "Fuck!"

"What happened?"

"They must have taken the train station they are scattering. And, she looked back and forth. Those bastards."

"What?"

"The places they are going make it look like I'm in on it."

"What?"

"The tracks they are on all lead to people who support King Luther. And noticeably avoiding those who side with me," said Talia. "Did he do this to himself?"

"You mean Luther?" said Kurt.

"Yes," said Talia, "this could all be staged."

"Or purposefully choose a side just because and make you fight each other. If the opposite happened you'd be thinking the same thing." Talia looked around and found a large Minotaur, grabbed his shoulder, and asked, "How fast do Minotaurs run?"

"Fast, why?" said the Minotaur.

"Could we cut off that train," pointing out the window if he started now from here.

"We'd have to jump from the train soon, I don't think we could stop." Looking out, "and we'd still be pretty close."

"Then you'll carry me," said Talia. "Don't slow down just to save me some bumps. We have to get to that train." The minotaur nodded.

"Kurt you need to go that way," pointing to the other side, "and stop that train."

"We met back at Gateway Keep," said Kurt.

The split went as fast as they could, the Minotaurs would split between the group. The goblins would stay without their mounts and they wouldn't be able to keep up anyway. They would help secure Gateway Keep where everyone was supposed to be headed.

Kurt and Talia kissed each other as they went their separate ways. The train screeched only slowing down and not coming to a stop as Kurt, Talia, and the Minotaurs jumped off the train. Harvey jumped off the top toward Kurt. He wasn't planning to do that but it was too late now. Luckily a larger goatman decided to join each party. They had forgotten they had to be able to see the enemy.

They ran as fast as the Minotaurs could keep up and Harvey was too. They could still make it, they were making a hard cut so the distance to get through was much shorter. Having no time to figure out how Kurt was just jumping knowing Harvey could climb hoping the Minotaurs and Goatmen kept up.

Kurt tumbled a few times his feet were used to the land and he was trying to move fast enough to reach the train. Not exactly sure what he would do when he got there. He wasn't with his normal crew, a single goatman and a bunch of Minotaurs. Not a single goblin nor human.

It became clear their original plan wasn't going to work and they made a turn. They had wanted to intercept the train but as it moved they found obstacles that became less likely even at their speeds. Kurt could have made it alone but there was no way to bring everyone else and without them, the shadows could be intangible and almost impossible to fight.

They stampeded across the land toward some keep they didn't even know the name of. It was never one of the stops for Kurt. Harvey had run up to Kurt.

"Good, Harvey, I need you to try and do something for me."

"Yes master, Harvey will do it."

"I haven't told you what it is yet."

"Ohh."

"You know the bad smell of rodents?"

"Yes, the bad smell goes away."

"Can you make illusions of bad smoke where they are?"

"Harvey will try, only when Harvey knows though. Smells linger. Not always something there."

"Can you try your best?"

"Harvey will try."

They ran until they reached the outskirts of the town and towards the train station. A set of guards was there to meet them. Kurt had jumped up close and fast before anyone else.

"Hello, I'm Lord Kurt of the Wellspring, we believe that train is the Shadow clan."

For the distance the sky parted and a giant glowing sword seemed to come from the heavens. Its bright glow showed over the entire Valentine Clan's territory. Just as it seemed to just float there it violently came crashing down into the ground. And there was a large cloud of black smoke gathering as it dematerialized.

"And that was probably my fiancé," said Kurt. "Countess Talia, stopping another one."

"The guard looked shocked at the scene in the distance and turned back towards Kurt as he was speaking. Behind him, the Minotaurs were moving toward. And the goatmen breathing hard came forward.

"Sir," the goatmen said, "that was a lot for me. I need them to bring me torches so I can make the flames." He held his chest breathing, "I'm no Minotaur."

"You heard him," said Kurt. And the soldier looked at Kurt with wide eyes. No, he probably didn't, no translation spell. That was going to make things difficult. "Sorry you can't understand him. He needs to set torches they will reveal the shadows"

"And that thing," the soldier was pointing at Harvey.

"Ohhh Harvey," said Kurt. "Just don't get in our way. We are here to help stop them. Can we get a commander? We have to get to the station. Some of them could have already jumped off as well."

"Master!"

"It fucking talks," said the soldier.

Harvey knew the human language. Good thought Kurt, another translator. Just a three-headed hydra of a translator. He really needs to learn to do goblin magic or something like that.

"He has a name, it's Harvey," said Kurt, "Now Harvey go make sure we fight shadows of people like this with these uniforms to help them."

"Yes master," one of Harvey's heads said, but one of the heads turned quickly. And an orange smoke appeared where he was looking. One of the Minotaurs leaped into action. The goatman fired off a small bolt of fire towards the ground and a patch of grass caught. A flicker of man started to appear in the air before its head was struck hard with an axe from the Minotaur.

"They are already here," said Kurt. "Good boy, Harvey just like that."

"I'll go get some torches," said the guard.

"And get, whoever is in charge as well," said Kurt, "I don't think we've been introduced." Kurt drew his sword. "We don't have time for formality here."
