Kurt took one of his hands from the hilt of his blade and placed it on the mana stone at the bottom. He'd never used this but it was supposed to have been charging ever since he got it. It was supposed to be for emergencies and this seemed exactly like one. Through every battle including this one. He just hoped it was enough.
Harvey's four heard next to him and Talia and Layla close. Kurt activated the sword's ability. Silence took over his small group. But everything outside of him had experienced a massive sonic blast.
He was really pl mly told of the efrdct and that anyone who he didn't want to be affected should be fairly close. The exact distance he could not remember.
The most obvious reaction was that Darien, his flight was affected and started to drop quickly. Taking a large flap pulls him back. But he still headed directly at the Student.
The student's spell had disappeared and he had his hand covering his ears. The dragon hit him in mid-air to the side.
Talia jumped off and made a quick swing of her sling making an earth shot.
Layla made a blink and appeared above him and swung her barbed bat at him. He was able to block but was sent flying to the ground.
Kurt was the last to get there. But the man had been able to pop open the device and there was going to be a gate back to his world.
It didn't matter, he thought as the gate's frame came out of the device.
"Until next time," the man said.
Kurt continued his dash but just before he got the Student had disappeared and Kurt came through the frame. There was no gateway there.
He turned around and it was just like an empty door frame. What how?
Darien came down and said, "Where is he?"
"He went through the gate?"
"What gate?"
"I'm asking that as well," said Kurt
Layla had come up with Talia and both looked at the empty frame.
"Layla what happened here?" said Kurt.
"It's only half open," said Layla.
"But we are from Earth," said Talia.
Layla walked up to the true frame. "It's hard because I'm locked out also. I can barely see it. This one doesn't go to Earth. It's somewhere I don't have any connection to."
"What?" said Kurt.
"So we lost him?" said Darien.
"It would appear so. He might even be laughing at us right on the other side here," said Layla.
"So all that for nothing?" said Talia.
"Well what about the castle?" said Kurt.
"There were people there but we definitely outnumbered them. When I saw this I had to turn around," said Talia. "The front needed to know what's in the back."
At least that meant they could rescue some of the Fae, perhaps control the gate there.
"We shouldn't leave this here," said Darien, "without a watch."
"I think we should destroy it," said Layla. "If no one can see them we have no idea how many they have."
"How?"
"Well, the easiest way would be for Darien to melt it." Layla looked up at the dragon. "I would leave the decision to you, Lord Darien. We shouldn't be staying here long in an event. I have other work to do."
"He was far stronger than I thought he would be," said Darien.
"And he was just the student," said Kurt.
Darien's eyes widened, "You mean it wasn't even him?"
"I guess you weren't there for that," said Kurt, "he said the True Sorcerer was his teacher."
Heading to the castle the battle had died down. Either the enemy was dead or had run through the gate. There was only one business in mind for Layla determining the Fae's fate.
There were only four fae left. Two of which came with Layla, and one agreed to go to Valentine's provided she would be able to see the ocean from here well. That fae seemed particularly interested in that idea of the ocean. And the final one seemed content to say as long as the rest of them left.
"So what are you plotting?" said Kurt
"Nothing," said Layla.
"Where are you planning on putting them?"
"Well in places advantageous to us."
"Advantageous?"
"Fine, I was going to put one of them on the other continent."
"What?"
"It would be very advantageous for us."
"Why?"
"You know why Kurt. Money."
"Money? Really?"
"Of course, we can take trips on both sides really. I'll even make Betsy a guardian. How's that?"
"And you're just telling me?"
"You have to come with me."
"And the other one?"
Layla smiled, "ohh just further around our domain. Nothing special there are a few spots."
"Why not just put one near Valentine?"
"They'd never allow that. And besides…there is already one going there."
"We will need to discuss this," said Kurt.
"That's fine I can hold one for a while, and the other shouldn't be hard either."
They made a series of moves at Layla's gate. First bringing everyone to where Darien was staying on Earth. Then closed the gate and slipped back to Layla's well. Then slipped to Justin's well. And brought the Valentine troops with Darien back to their territory. Finally making a move to bring their own troops home.
They would make their way back to their normal journey once they had time to talk to Beatty. But that was a lot for Layla to do in a short time period. They all needed some rest after this as well.
"Do the Gods eat?" said Talia. Who had remained silent and on Kurt's arm the entire time since she was pulled back from slipping home. She had seemed a bit terrified after that.
"Yes, why?"
"Then maybe we should get some people here in two days to prepare a meal for them. That seems to be one of the things here every…umm…species… agrees on. Humans make good food."
