Mindy had gotten everyone some food.
"So an Angel," said Herbie to Rosie, "like for god? Or are you like your own thing?"
"Yes, Angels are anointed by a god, Ishtar was mine."
"Well, that seems nice, too bad you didn't get the wings with the title." Rosie was still hidden as human-like without her wings from the effect of Ishtar's bracelet. Being told by Ostar to keep it on this side of the gate was pretty much the law to her; she wasn't going just to let him see. On this side of the gate.
"Title?"
"Archangel must be some title you have," said Herbert.
"Dad," said Kurt, "you'll see. It's not…"
"The title of Archangel was bestowed upon me by Istar after I had proven myself in battle. Archangels are specifically warriors."
Herbert gave Rosie a strange look, from the outside and to humans without the ability to see her power. The talk of this relatively normal-looking girl seemed a bit of an odd thing to think of. Kurt though understood.
Mindy was talking to Talia up a storm about the Valentine Clan.
"I wonder how Arthur is going to take it?" said Mindy.
"You know Arthur of the Fire Clan."
"Of course Jacob and Kurt, obviously. It's not like Sara's parents but.
"Then you can see him."
"See him."
"Yes, he would be on the other side of the gate."
Eventually, all the conversations seemed to lead to that. And Layla had gotten a little impatient and found a nice quiet spot to make the gate.
"Holy crap," said Herbert, "wait you are not joking with us."
"I'm afraid not."
The two families came through and were greeted by Joshua.
"It's bowing to you," said Mindy to Kurt. "Can you understand what he's saying?" His mother had gotten closer to Kurt and was a little shocked.
Rosie donned her wings and flew away, "I will see you another time."
"My gods," said Herbert, staring at Rosie flying away, "I thought it was like a title like some weird knight's title."
Joshua did his thing to get the translations working for the family after Kurt had explained a little.
"So, Lord Kurt," said Mindy.
"Mom you don't have to call me that," said Kurt.
"When you're ready we can go Kurt," said Layla. As she flew away to the pillar.
The idea of another world was foreign the moving of the gate was definitely shocking but Kurt kept forgetting the strangest part of Wellsprings is the amount of species that made their residence there. It had gotten so common for him.
Pretty much the entire world only knew of the Fae being creatures that could communicate. And most people would have never met one.
"So you're saying," said Herbert, "all of this is yours, like everything."
"In a manner of speaking, Princess Layla…" said Kurt.
"Princess!?!" said Mindy.
"Ohh yeah, right…"
"And Talia is really a countess from Valentine?"
"We can go there if you like," said Talia smiling. She was sort of enjoying this.
After a while of trying to explain the situation they had found themselves near the pillar. Kurt had explained he lived on the top.
"Where's the water come from?" said Herbert, staring at the waterfall coming from the pillar. "It can't be the rain."
"Magic, you'd have to ask Layla."
They made their way up the stair of the pillar to Kurt house. But Kurt forgot that Harry tended to sleep there.
"Umm Kurt, there is a monster."
"Master," said Harvey getting up running to him.
Kurt instinctively moved quickly, more quickly than humans should be able to move to get in between them.
"Harvey, wait," said Kurt, "you'll scare my parents."
Harvey came up and wanted to be petted on all of his heads by Kurt, slithering all his heads around him.
"Ahhhhh," screamed Mindy, "Kurt!!! Noooooo."
Herbert was holding Mindy back.
"Mom, it's okay," and all of Harvey's head went up to look at the screaming. Kurt turned back to Harvey, "Can you give me a bit, maybe go swimming or something."
"Yes, master."
"And if you ever see anyone hurt those two you stop it."
"Yes master."
Harvey scurried down the pillar over an edge he could use his claws to climb directly on the walls.
Mindy was hyperventilating, "Kurt — what — was — that?"
"That's just Harvey my…I'm pet Hydra."
"Pet? It fucking spoke.."
"Honey," said Herbert. Kurt rarely heard his parents swear in front of him, let alone somewhat at him.
"Herbie, this all so weird, to saw that thing attack him."
"He wasn't attacking me. He would have breathe fire."
"It can breathe fire! What's next, a damn dragon."
Kurt gave a cheeky smile.
Talia couldn't hold back the laughter anymore.
"What are you laughing at?" said Mindy.
"It's just hilarious. Harvey definitely looked like he was attacking you. There is a dragon, my dragon, and like even if Harvey was attacking it would lose."
"It's all so crazy!"
"It really is."
Mindy started laughing at that.
After a little bit Mindy had gotten herself a little more clamped down. They had walked to the pillar's edge facing the river, over the water fall. The scenic view of the whole place.
"It's beautiful here," said Mindy. Herbert was smart enough to give her a hug for the view. And block a bit of wind.
"So untouched," said Herbert.
"About that," said Kurt.
"What about it."
"What if you had that plot over there?"
"That plot? I don't see any marketing, just wide open land."
"Exactly."
"What are you trying to say?"
"Well, the first reason I came to see you was to invite you to our wedding. And I think you understand now why that sort of had to be in person."
"A first reason implies a second reason."
"We need farmers."
"You never listened."
"You mean move here."
"Yes."
"Kurt we have debt and obligations. We can't just get up and leave."
"Why not?"
"We've got employees who're going to pay them. We have suppliers and repairs and bills."
"I have money."
"We're not talking about…"
Kurt threw a bag at father, which he caught. And and gave a weight in his hands.
"Kurt where did you?"
"That's just what I walk around with. Remember the warehouses and the goblins, and the people. I make money off all that. Pay the workers for the whole year! Bring them here really."
"Kurt, it's not that simple."
"It's not," shouted Kurt. Looking away. "There are people that might want to hurt you, to get to me now."
"What are you saying Kurt?"
Talia butted in, "The Valentine clan involvement and the politics surrounding a movable gate involves a lot of money. This place has a lot of resources only found on this side of the gate. Greed is a powerful corrupting influence."
"Have you hurt any one?" said his mother in a tone only your mother can give.
Kurt's head echoed with the gurgling sound of a man he killed, the first man he killed, whatever his name was. He looked away from his mother. He had hurt people. The image of a man sliced in half flashed in his eyes as he made a blink.
"Kurtis Nathanael Green!?"
Kurt started breathing heavily. He didn't want to answer. Still averting his gaze.
"Kurt has defended his people," said Talia, after a moment and seeing Kurt's reaction. "If you've never been in battle you couldn't understand."
"Battle!?!" Talia was not helping.
"Honey, stop." Herbert said. "We don't know everything. Maybe it is best we start heading home. We have a lot to talk about."
