For some reason, Jerry and Rosie actually seemed to get along. Maybe it was because even she knew that someone had to show her how to do it. But they seemed to have some companionship.
Layla, Talia, Sara, and Kurt all got into the carriage, which was big enough for all of them. At least they wouldn't be squeezing in.
"At least she seems to enjoy the show," said Layla.
"It had to be this trip," said Kurt.
"It won't be so bad," said Talia. Smiling, she might have been the only one looking forward to all of this.
"Still who knows what she could do, she seems so off," said Kurt.
"It's not like there is anything we can do about her," said Layla sighing.
"At least her boss seemed to get her in line," said Sara.
"Ishtar is a problem, forcing her temple there is just giving her an excuse. We have no idea what the gods are actually planning here," said Layla.
They had made their way through the familiar path, familiar farms, and pastures. Their carriage would have looked extravagant to anyone there, this part of the countryside wasn't exactly a town. Even though populated by farmers.
The fields were being worked by a few people. Large and small plots of land. Kurt's family had a mid-sized area they would farm, changing seasonally and with the market. And had a few chickens, they didn't raise much in livestock, that was more likely Sara's family on the next farm.
When they turned into the farmhouse's driveway, they had already been seen by many of the people. The few farmhands had all noticed their arrival. It would most likely be the talk of everyone for the next few weeks.
"So you should take Rosie to get your parents as we planned," said Kurt.
Sara gave Kurt a dead stare, "That's not…"
"No but it is…"
Kurt had gotten out first and helped Talia and Layla down out of the carriage. While they were talking to Jerry and Rosie about bringing Sara's parents here quickly. Kurt's father, Herbert Green, had finally reached them from the fields.
"What's all this about?" said Herbert.
"Ahh, Hi dad," said Kurt.
"Kurt, is that you? What in the world are you wearing? One second I'm going to get your mother," Herbert went to the farmhouse, opened the door, and yelled "Mindy!! Come out here you're never going to believe it."
After a few moments, "Herbie, what is with all the yelling?"
"Kurt's here."
"What? Really!"
Mindy came out of the house and gave a glare, "What is with the carriage?"
"Kurt came on it."
"What?"
They came to their party, and Mindy hugged Kurt. "Ohh look at you, my boy." Turning towards Layla and Talia. "And who are these ladies?"
"Well," said Kurt, "This is Layla, and this one," bringing Talia closer, "is part of why I'm here. This is my fiancée Countess Talia."
"Fiancee? Countess?" said Mindy.
"A pleasure to finally meet you," said Talia, grabbing Kurta's hand and smiling at him.
"Come in, come in," said Mindy, "I can throw some more food into the pot."
"Sara and her family should be coming soon as well, plus two others," said Kurt. "We can pay for…"
"Stop, everyone can come, we might have to set up a bit outside though. The house isn't ready for a big party like this."
Mindy had managed to drag Talia away from Kurt into the kitchen wanting to talk to her a little privately. Herbert had gotten out a few glasses and a whiskey bottle and a bottle of wine.
"So what happened? Arthur got you into the clan? I heard they got hit pretty bad a while back."
"Not exactly," said Kurt, "we wanted to wait until Sara got back so he wouldn't have to explain it all twice."
Herbert eyed Kurt's sword, something he always carried now. But it would have been a completely different thing to anyone who knew him before.
"Well, whatever it is, don't go being a hero out there, heroes die."
"I think I'll be alright," said Kurt.
After a few minutes, Sara and her parents came in with Rosie and Jerry.
"Ohh what is this smell," said Rosie.
"Check out the kitchen," said Herbert, pointing in its direction.
They had managed to make a place outside the back of the house where everyone could sit with a few mismatched tables and chairs they had.
"Well it's going to be a while," said Mindy, "stuff has to cook."
"So what with the big deal going on," said Sara's father, "it is not like you two."
"And that expensive-looking carriage," said her mother.
Layla and Talia both smiled at Kurt, enjoying his discomfort, "about that…"
"Are these people unaware of your status?" said Rosie.
"Yes," said Kurt, "maybe the best way to start is with some more proper introductions."
After introducing everyone with their titles. The four parents were still a bit confused.
"What do you mean by archangel? And this one is a fae," said Herbert. "And we are just supposed to believe that."
"It's a long story," said Kurt.
Kurt started to try to explain how they met and what they were currently doing.
"The gates don't move," said Sara's family. "And what you two are nobility or something. You know that's not how it works."
Kurt looked at Layla, "I mean it probably would make things a bit more believable if you…"
"You would not just believe Lord Kurt," said Rosie.
"Lord Kurt," said Herbert.
"Rosie, these are parents, you realize that right?"
Rosie gave them a bit of a look up and down, "no that isn't possible."
"What?"
"You are not like these beings, a bit of a resemblance."
"Are you trying to say that's not my son," said Mindy angrily.
"We explained that to you Rosie," said Layla.
"Still they are so weak," said Rosie, "it's hard to believe."
"Weak?" said Herbert.
"How about I just open that gate," said Layla trying to diffuse the situation.
Kurt hadn't been able to explain anything well, and no one believed any of it. And Rosie wouldn't show her angelic form with Ishtar expressly forbidding it on this side of the gate.
"How about we eat first," said Kurt. "Mom is making all that food."
