Everything was a bit delayed but it ended up working out for everyone. Mainly because they would be putting the gate in Helmbrig just before the coronation. That was the original plan; it just needed to be sped up because of the war.
Meaning they would be perfectly placed if Horus wanted to step over. Which was clear they were not in a position to actually stop.
They had been able to take the castle without much being spread somehow. There were wild rumors about the war everywhere, and it was hard to take them all seriously. Their particular rumor would have sounded like one of the most unbelievable. A sneak attack on Helmbrig and taken within hours by an army of monsters? It would seem almost laughable to many.
A tightening of border crossings was happening everywhere as well. So fewer people being allowed in was not too unexpected by anyone.
Helmsbrig's position made a good place to wait out a war rather than attempt to join. And many assumed their actions at the pass were exactly that.
Being able to keep the same guards allowed them to pretend nothing had changed for a while. The battalion from Valentine had left to cause their disruptions and were going to do so in a manner that would hide how they got there.
It won't last too long. Eventually, someone would get wind that the wrong envoy would arrive and find themselves in a bind.
People had been starting to show up for the coronation for a few days. Midas and Hamlet had both brought some dignitaries. It wasn't going to be a massive audience like some places would have.
Rosie had descended from wherever they went to Kurt's house but she wasn't alone there was another male angel next to her.
Kurt was practicing like he did every morning, and Betsy was there as well. But they had stopped their morning routine because of the guest.
"You know you're doing that wrong," said the man.
"Wrong?"
"Yes, you are attempting to circulate your powers, it's all wrong."
"Yeah, I…umm."
"May I introduce the Angel Marty of Horus," said Rosie, "This is Lord Kurt." Betsy was basically ignored, something this time she wasn't looking like she was insulted by.
"Welcome…" said Kurt.
"Yes, yes, and you're doing that wrong."
"I haven't exactly mastered it," said Kurt.
"No, your whole idea is wrong."
"What do you mean?"
"You're back circulating it, you shouldn't do that."
"Huh," said Kurt.
"It's not circular, it's outward that should be the focus so it doesn't need to come back. It's more of an outpouring. Hasn't anyone taught you anything?"
"Huh," said Kurt. He thought about this for a while, that was the harder part of trying to make it form into a system that fed in on itself. His other powers worked that way so maybe he had made a bad assumption. "Let me try that for a second."
Kurt took another swing and had instinctively done it the way he had before, and stopped before finishing, and tried again. This time trying not to turn it back. It seemed to work a bit better. There was something else.
"Better," said Marty, "you'll have to get a feel for the timing now. There is this…"
"We're not here for a lesson," said Rosie.
"Why are you here?" said Kurt.
"Lord Horus wishes to know the plan," said Marty.
"The plan."
"The steps of the crowning, where, when, from where? Are there speeches? I would like to do a mock version of the entire process. We do not wish Horus to embarrass himself by not knowing what to do at the moment. And Horus will be meeting with this Queen privately at some time, before or after."
"Of course," said Kurt, "we just weren't expecting…. But this would be something more to discuss with Layla, as far as I know I'm just supposed to basically stand there."
"This is just the most convenient door to the pillar for us," said Rosie. At the top of the pillar of course was convenient for an angel.
The man walked to the edge and looked out at the waterfall. "This brings back memories," said Marty. "Not quite as much as Neptune but he did have a few hundred years and can't really expect the same results so quickly, I suppose. And no Krakens, they must have died or gone out when it dried up. Maybe I can grab one from the ocean, one day."
"I am unfamiliar," said Rosie.
"Yeah, you never came here when Neptune was around did you?"
"I would have been fairly young at the time, only the stories. But shall we?"
"Yes, I guess I can't ask if it's the same throne room then."
The two made their way downstairs into the pillar.
"So," said Betsy.
"Don't think you're getting out of your practice because of them."
It was a bit unexpected for them to send another angel without everyone he was going to bring. But the explanation made sense to him. Horus would want one of his own angels to give him the details.
The situation was tense and Kurt hoped the entire event would be short. The less time with these powers around the better thought Kurt.
The days were moving fast towards it. Talia had been making her own arrangements for the wedding to be done soon after, but not too soon after. Though the war situation was a moving target. Fighting had only just begun to start. A few battles but the larger forces hadn't met. The sides were still trying to gain support from the lords of the land. It was likely that many would be coming to their wedding.
The time for the occasion was rapidly approaching. The pillar was starting to get crowded. Some of the eleven kingdoms had sent some people as well. The goblins were coming out of their caves.
The settlement was getting a bit crowded bringing everyone there. A storm cloud was moving across the horizon seemingly coming for them as the day before the ceremony. Rain? That might be bad, thought Kurt.
Or it just might be gods.
