Chapter 202: Raykiel

Kurt was being forcefully pushed back by the shadow creature that had been taunting him. Beaten and bruised, Kurt was still trying to stand strong. He found a bit of time to take some of his healing paste.

Kurt was distracting his forces' main opponent to a minimum. Kurt wasn't exactly sure where their battle had ended up. Having to move with his water boots focusing on the attacking shadow creature.

The form of the creature could change at his will, sometimes more human, sometimes less so. Melting in and out of the shadows around him.

All he had was his sword, it was unlikely any of his water fists would have any more effect as they were variations of the same skill.

If anything his sword was specially made to do just that. The elven blade was only the gift they had given him. The spell work on the blade was designed to have a counter magic automatically, the grooves and divots of the double-edge blade allow easier movement of his water to create a sheet or string. The ice magic was entirely coming from the blade as well.

It had never let him down, it was enchanted more for durability and sharpness. Humans, or at least Kurt had never been able to infuse the blade directly. This would be like Hank's lightning, which required draining the user's magic.

It had never twitched before. Swords don't usually do that.

The more he realized the truth the more he was frightened. He couldn't keep the blade still because the blade used to be still. How could he even control his movements now?

It wasn't working anyway. The creature appeared to his left and Kurt managed to move out of the way.

"Look at how you tremble before us."

It would look like that. Kurt was fairly brave but his predicament was clearly becoming a death sentence if it continued for much longer. He was in many ways being toyed with, he thought. He should be afraid, and he probably was but he couldn't just back down.

He gripped the sword's handle attempting to try and make it still so he could at least try to look like he wasn't just running away scared.

Say my name…

A deep low voice spoke like it was vibrating through his bones.

Where was the clarity from the wyvern fight? And that power now? His brain was panicking only being able to dodge and attempt to block the creature's assaults.

He had never been to get back to a point like that. Maybe because he never even saw the swarm as much of a threat. He knew then his attacks would work. This time none of them were doing anything.

My name…say it

What name? Kurt rolled away from an attack from the creature. And when he rolled up the creature stood above him ready to end his game with him.

Kurt made a swipe and it passed through the creature's body like all the rest of them. But then he knew. From somewhere he could form it.

"Raykiel," Kurt spoke softly.

Ha hahahaha.

And it was like a past version of Kurt came in behind him streaking across the creature, and the creature screamed in pains

His sword stood still but he could feel a bloodlust coming from it. He split into five illusions.

But something was different. The sword in his hand wasn't in his hand. He made a swipe with the illusion sword anyway. And swung a punch.

The shadow creature turned. To take a swing. But one of Kurt's illusions cut off his appendage, using the real sword in its illusionary hands, an arm of you could call it that. It was like he could be in two places at once.

Kurt blinked back to an illusion the sword came with him, he made a series of swipes with his sword dangling the creature with the sword's power coming after, and now a bit before.

His battle clarity came back, and the control of the sword between illusions started to become effortless.

The lettering on the sword started to glow a bright light, almost flaming as the sword seemed to exist across a spectrum of a swing all at once but somehow not at all.

He split his illusion and stayed behind. Watching as the sword would change from one to another without any indication that a person could see. This time the shadow creature was swiping at nothing as some would disappear when hit.

Kurt dashed into the shadow creatures' panic. The sword returned real in his grasp, and sliced off the creature's head. Behind him, the rest of his illusions sliced it into pieces before it hit the ground.

Kurt then sieved his sword, Raykiel, the Ray of God.

Kurt decided to keep the sword's name a secret. When he was first told of a naming. It was more of a warning than of something that was blessed. He had a feeling some people wouldn't necessarily like the idea.

He hoped it knew better than to let itself be known. He knew he had barely tapped its power in the end. Like taking a test drive. He would have to experiment later.

The shadow creature was defeated but Kurt was a bit lost. He had sent away his ride. Which probably was a good choice given the circumstances.

He could see the attack taking place in the distance still. After the wyvern had made their move the troops would come in behind to clean up after the panic. There was a plan they planned to coordinate after the attack if they prevailed. The walls would be overwhelmed by the flying attack.

Fights are always quicker than you expect though. Many of those guys probably never even noticed much. At least now he felt he wasn't completely defenseless against them. He had never drunk from Jessica's well because of their strained relationship.

Kurt started to make his way back to where he thought the way was based on what had happened.

He had seen some fleeing soldiers who made way for him.

"You're crazy if you want to go that way! There are monsters on the ground and sky." was the general tale being told by them.

Good, those were the monsters he was looking for. He hoped Rico would be somewhere close enough to notice him.
