Chapter 213: War Front

Negotiations weren't Kurt's strong suit so he was much more concerned about what to do next with the war fronts.

He loosely held a section of Exloadia; he had seen others starting to give it that of all the names recently in his own camp.

He was worried that the Temple of Horus might give the enemy more strength as the trials were a mystery to him and too much of a risk to take himself.

The reality was that the Shadow clan was cornered but they didn't have much to go on. The aerial assaults from Welspring had changed the tide from their aggression to retreat.

They were much more concentrated at the same time. They would have by now prepared something more for the wyverns. And it was more like their spell casters were holding up there.

When Kurt raised his concerns with his generals about the temple. Many seemed excited at the prospect. It wasn't the idea he was hoping to give. But Boris seemed to understand the ritual.

During one of his meetings, a goblin had run into the room.

"I have important news," said the goblin.

"What is it?" said Kurt.

"A very powerful spell caster. And he is using a wand."

That was the new Kurt was waiting for the goblin, smiling at the goblin.

"Its attack is pushing towards Guard Hill," said the goblin.

Kurt looked at the map already knowing it wasn't a place he had control or influence over, it was part of the Alliance. But it didn't matter.

"You've done well," said Kurt.

He looked at the position, and pointed to a place that was at the flank of the push, "Prepare to move here."

"That won't defend against it," said the goblin.

"Don't worry about that," said Kurt. "Worry about making a path to the temple."

"Are you saying," said Hank, "to let them through?"

"No," said Kurt, "I'm saying we have two angels that are looking for a person with that description."

The goblins, Minotaurs, and others at the table all start smiling at each other.

Kurt continued, "I will inform them, and when you think you're ready make the push and attack. Don't over-tack yourselves, we don't need to get all the way there today."

The first thing Kurt did was slip towards Justin's well to inform him that the attack was coming toward them. After the brief conversation, he had quickly found Layla. And went to Jessica's well to find either Rosie or Ishtar.

They had found Jessica and Rosie close.

"Why are you just running in here", said Jessica. This is now a temple to Ishtar."

"We believe we have found either the True Sorcerer or his student."

Rosie stood up from where she was seated, "And you have proved not suitable for this task."

"Yes," said Layla, "I was under the impression a lot of the reason for you and Marty's presence was for this."

"Have you informed Marty?"

"Not yet, I only just found out myself," said Kurt, "we came here first as it was easier."

"I will fetch him, wait at the pillar, and we will go immediately."

Kurt bowed towards Jessica', "I'm sorry to intrude but Ishtar."

"No," said Jessica, "you did well. I will inform Ishtar that you need not worry."

Kurt wasn't worried about informing the gods.

They had done as instructed and a few minutes later Rosie and Marty had arrived. From there Kurt, Layla, and the two angels flew towards a battlefield.

After an hour of intense flight, they had started to see the battle happening. The bursts of explosions. The fires of wyverns.

You couldn't ignore it from their height.

As they came closer Rosie said, "Marty, this was to be your trial was it not? Capture or kill?"

"It was," said Marty.

"Seeing him now, would you accept my help, or would you take your trial?"

"I will take my trial."

"Then I shall serve as witness."

"What does that mean?" said Kurt.

"He was to fight the opponent himself without divine aid."

"But what of our people?" said Layla.

"As a witness, I will allow you to order your troops to retreat. You shall not interfere beyond defending yourselves and people. You two may not interfere beyond that point."

"You're saying I can't fight him? You won't allow me to even help Marty fight him."

"Yes. This is to be his trial as he has accepted and Horus has made it so. I am worthy to witness the feat."

"No argument from me," said Kurt.

"What if he loses?" said Layla.

"This is a trial to be an Archangel," said Archangel Rosie. "I suggest you tell your people to leave."

Layla and Kurt had heard the warning and started telling their people to leave as they could get the message out in a battle. Retreats were called. Kurt and Layla had separated to tell the most people.

The forces fighting the sorcerer were already in battle but were unaffected.

Kurt came down to a force of humans.

"You all need to retreat."

"We will stand and fight," said a man.

Behind Kurt, a massive gust of wind brushed past him making the soldiers have to take a step back to balance themselves.

"You have already fought, we will take it from here but the area is going to become dangerous. I, Lord Kurt of Wellspring, am ordering your retreat. You need not die today.

Similar conversations occur throughout the battlefield. The wyvern's fleet had been spreading the message as well. And they started organizing a retreat.

It took some time and he missed the beginning but he was t going to miss all of it.

He took Rico, his wyvern, up to where Rosie was floating, watching.

"We have ordered the retreat, the only thing we can do is hope they all make it out."

Rosie glared at Kurt, "You've been wanting to see this."

"Yes."

"I don't blame you, come, you may observe beside me."

Layla had soon after joined them to witness the battle between Marty and the Sorcerer.

"It's definitely his student," said Layla. "I hope that doesn't make a difference."

"It does not," said Rosie.
