Chapter 214: Marty v. Student

"So is he going to start?" said Kurt.

"I believe he was waiting for you," said Rosie.

Marty had flown high and was barely a spot in the sky from their view. Kurt and Layla had thought it best to come to Rosie.

Rosie continued, "He seemed to have noticed us, but not his real opponent."

"What's that mean?"

"That Marty better not make me draw my sword."

The student had flown up and started towards them slowly. He had stopped his attack. Upon that, Marty had made his way down to meet him face to face.

"You can never do it yourself can you two," said the student, spearing him around Marty towards Kurt and Layla, then back to Marty. "So this one wants to fight."

"Lord Horus demands it," said Marty, "You may give up right now, that would be disappointing. Looking back at Rosie, now wouldn't it?"

"Last time it was both of you, a dragon, a hydra, and an army," said the student. A ball of energy appeared behind Marty's head, "and I assume you're not going to help him." Rosie shook her head.

"Sure, I'll take you all one at a time."

"You can begin when ready," said Rosie.

The energy ball behind Marty's head fired a shot at him, but Marty had simply dropped down, as they were all flying, and it missed easily. He drew a sword.

"Let's find a place to land Rico can't just sit here forever," the three watchers left to some high ground.

Watching the two fighters was hard to focus on because of their speed and the sheer force of the power that was being displayed.

Marty was fast enough to avoid and get close but the sorcerer was able to avoid or defend. The battlefield came alive with his magic not as much as in the Jungle as there was less vegetation.

It seemed like hundreds of energy balls were being blasted away by Marty's sword.

"I don't know if he is having trouble or toying with him," said Rosie.

"What do you mean?"

"The sorcerer's main advantage is speed of casting and the number of his spells. He's either having trouble finding time for himself or intentionally not using his own."

When she was saying this Marty shot up into the air with dozens of energy balls following him, getting ahead of all he turned back and flapped his wings a shower of similar energy was thrown down destroying the vast majority of them.

"See," said Rosie.

The student had more time to think and a giant dark energy ball appeared, and a spell circle flashed on the ground.

The dark ball blasted at Marty; he made a slash with his sword that sent a rip through the space between him and the ball, slicing it in half, exploding it in the air.

The dust had allowed Marty to swoop down for an attack. But a Tree Golem blocks the path making Marty have to slice it up as well.

A violently quick direct shot from the sorcerer's wand made an impact on Marty. But it didn't stop his pursuit with a thrust at the sorcerer not being able to completely dodge it.

They both had made their first real hit. It didn't seem that either had suffered too much damage in their fight. The sorcerer had been able to put something between them and the separated. More orbs formed in the wake.

Kurt stared out at the battle unable to process how they could do so much in so little time. Was this what it was like for normal people to watch him? He couldn't even fly, to both of them he would just be a sitting duck.

Marty had started to change strategies instead of trying to make a decisive hit; he was trying to pressure him to move in a direction.

The problem was that the sorcerer had been able to bring up seven more types of golem fire birds, giants of rock.

The sorcerer came to the ground and Marty pursued and a giant twister came from the ground up at him. Marty was taken into a spin and flung while the sorcerer set up a larger attack.

A large energy stream shot at Marty.

Marty reacted differently facing the stream, in his non-sword hand he had made his own energy. And it shot forth at the stream. Their clash exploded in the air.

Marty then sent a downfall of energy himself, Kurt had originally noticed but it appeared Marty had been spreading the hailstorm across the battlefield.

"Smart," said Rosie, "he probably wasn't expecting to have his own swarm coming down at him. He was testing out his opponent's abilities."

"It's limited though," said Kurt, "it is more like rain and his ones are seeking."

"Yes, that is a very strange ability. But at the right time, he turned the battle his way."

From the ground shot up a dozen arms, some tried to grab Marty and others shielded the student from the acid rain falling upon him.

Marty broke through the earth-hands blocking his way and came at the sorcerer, the student narrowly evaded the attack and flew away but Marty was right behind him.

Marty made a strike and hit a mana shield that shattered, cutting into the student. The student kicked Marty away.

The student landed in a clearing and took an object out of his robes. Layla and Kurt recognized it.

"He's trying to escape again!" Layla shouted.

Marty came at the sorcerer like a streak of matter, the sorcerer still had the time to open the portal to somewhere.

"No you don't!" Marty screamed.

The sorcerer had rushed through the portal, and Marty came through right behind them. Both had disappeared, but only for a moment.

The student had immediately walked back out and closed the gate behind him, sending Marty to who knows where. Marty was basically trapped somewhere.

He had essentially just closed the door behind him and locked it.

"Dishonorable," said Rosie.

"I'm not sure my goblins would not see it that way," said Layla. "We all fell for it."

"If you got that device would you be able to open it?"

"I believe so," said Layla.
