After a few hours had passed, there was a knock at Kurt's door. They had finished eating a while ago and he was waiting for her.
"Hello, Sir Kurt."
"Layla," Kurt said looking down at Fae.
"So you're mad?"
"Of course I'm mad, Layla."
"You heard them," said Layla, "I technically saved you."
"You planned this," said Kurt.
"They were going to try to capture us with or without my planning, it required them to act first. It is not my fault they don't keep a good watch around their walls," said Layla as she folded her arms, "and vastly underestimated me."
"Do you have any idea what this is going to do?"
"Do?"
"You've destroyed the power base of one of the clans, you think that won't have a reaction? Like everyone, you could have just set off a war."
"Of course it will have some reaction, In fact that's one of the reasons I'm here."
"Ohh,"
"We have an obligation to inform the Valentine Clan of what happened."
"Did they know?"
"No Kurt they didn't, I will deal with it, but I think you should come," said Kurt.
"And the gate?"
"Yes Kurt, that too, are you just going to sit back and do nothing up here?"
"Umm."
"Yes, Kurt I am your queen, and you have duties. Our well is under attack. You are to defend it." Layla said loudly, her arms moved to her waist.
"Queen, is it now?"
"I have freed hostages of my kind, and had a massively successful attack on my enemy, yes, Queen. My kingdom has expanded, my well is growing strong. When this is all over, I shall claim the title with my own kind as witness, I am ready."
"How long?"
"How long, what Kurt?"
"How long have you really been planning this?"
Layla turned away and grumbled a little bit, "you really want to know?"
"Yeah."
"Since before you met me."
"I don't…"
"The pieces were not all there at the start, but they fell right into place in the end. The goblins were a blessing."
"So the entire time you've been plotting what, your revenge."
"The salvation of my people, I can get them, they will tell you."
"And Arthur?"
"He is, okay, confined to an outpost, I assure you that it is better conditions than that of the dungeons of Castle Bright Flame, it's under construction.""
"So he's alive and the Fae have wells all over now."
"Yes, and you can speak to him, but we have to deal with the gate first Kurt."
"So why not tell me?"
"Because you would have said no Kurt."
Kurt stared back at Layla in disbelief, just came out and said it didn't she.
"And you couldn't let that happen?"
"No I couldn't, it was too important. I'm sorry for deceiving you Kurt, but we have bigger issues right now."
"Bigger issues that are a result of that deception."
"You know what they were doing, I saw a chance to strike back and I did, they made the first move, they brought this on themselves, I don't regret doing it. What do you think they were planning on doing to you?"
"I…ummm."
"And you think that wasn't their plan since the moment you moved in. Face it Kurt, they were going to do something no matter what I did, I just led them to what I wanted them to do, and it was easy. Time consuming, but they walked right into it. They could have brought peace. They didn't. This is on them, we could have just finished that meal and went home."
"That doesn't mean it was smart to make an attack like that, there could have been a lot of other ways they could have handled it."
"Cindy was spying on them for me, I knew exactly what they wanted to do, put us on display before them. What was your plan to sword fight out of the castle and hope for the best? You were never in much danger until…"
"Until what?"
"The gate, the danger is the gate, we have to move it from your side, and I have a plan for that as well. Can we just finish what we have to do before we fight over this?"
Kurt gritted his teeth, she was right. There really was no use arguing about anything until the gate situation was solved. And that was on a timer, who knew what they were going to do when the people there found out what just happened to Bright Castle.
"So what first."
"We inform the Valentine Clan, then we clear the gate, then we move it."
"And that's it."
"Yes Kurt, that's it."
They went down to the throne room and Layla floated there looking a little annoyed.
"What's happening?"
"He's taking his sweet time, like we are not on a time table here. Ohh, finally," Layla snapped her fingers and Justin appeared.
"I thought we had an agreement, I don't particularly enjoy this," said Justin, "we are very early for our next meeting."
"I know, but I'm required to tell you immediately when certain things happen," said Layla.
"And the emergency?"
"The Fire Clan has captured me, and Kurt."
Justin looked around and seemed not very pleased with what he was hearing, it was obvious they were at their place, and it certainly didn't seem like they were being overrun, "you seem to have relieved yourself of this problem, this could have waited."
"In course of my kingdom coming to rescue me from this captivity, the resulting altercation has caused Castle Bright Flame to fall."
"Fall?"
"Topple over, with a fair number of the Fire Clan inside, we didn't stick around to check how many survived, but I'm sure many didn't survive it." 'Altercation' thought Kurt, you mean a blind sided attack that instantly evaporated large portions of the castle's internal and external structure, that's just an altercation.
"The castle fell over, and is just rubble?"
"Yes," said Layla, "do you think I should have waited to tell you? I was attacked, and I felt the need to counter attack, it was clear to me that this would be something that would need to be told timely. You understand I would have told you but, I have basically just returned."
"Yes, that is something we would want to be immediately aware of, is there anything else?"
"Yes, I am pleased to also report that during the operation three far have been rescued, and we have a prisoner Arthur of the Fire Clan."
"Rescued? How so?"
"There wells have moved to my domain, I can bring one of them here if you want, they have also submitted to my rule."
"I'm not following you, a Fae's Well can not move."
"No, it's that you are unable to move them, that is not a problem for me, it is a bit of a struggle to hold one for long, so I had to act quickly."
"What you are saying is not possible."
"I assure you it is. And I have done it. I thought you'd be happy actually. I can't imagine you wanted them to remain there. And they have some major grievances with the fire clan as you can imagine, they are under my banner now. But I understand your dilemma, I would have rescued more if I could have convinced them."
"No I wouldn't have wanted them to stay, I never thought there was another option, so Princess of the Fae, it seems, indeed may be a fitting title for you, your majesty.
"Soon to be Queen of the Fae, should I send you an invitation to my coronation? I do expect to invite at least Talia." Layla smiled. "Unless you didn't want me to Kurt?"
"No, I guess, she should come." Said Kurt.
"But I didn't think that was an emergency to discuss right now."
"Then I must return," said Justin, "you have certainly made the journey worth it, I apologize for my rudeness, the importance of this news is quite high, unless there is anything else you want to report while I'm here."
"Nothing else, you have my leave. We have some loose ends to clean up as well. Feel free to contact me if you need to communicate anything from the rest of your clan."
