As night came over the dark side of rune city, pitch darkness shrouded various positions forcing everyone to either take cover or retreat.

Aside from the four holy eminents who stood firm in the sky's of the city, everyone else seemed to have vanished.

In a dark windowless room, Enzo flipped through a rough dusty book in the dark, his night vision being the only thing that aided sight.

The others were currently staking the library making sure nothing could sneak up on them when they weren't aware, but Enzo sat causally at the back.

'It's right about time'

Enzo thought in his head as he stood up and walked down the last Isle of the library until he reached a desk.

He was here for information, but not the kind one would typically get from books.

No, he was looking for something else

Someone else

"No, my eyes deceive me, a night creature?" Suddenly an apparition appeared before Enzo of a man with long pointed ears and what seemed to be pale skin.

"Ah?" Seeing this 'ghost' appear from out of nowhere Enzo frowned deeply noticing strange features.

In the old cathedral, no matter who he asked, they all had the same answer to the question of the dark side, and it was to either ask the monsters….or talk to the crazy ghost up town.

Who would have thought that this crazy ghost was actually a night creature like him.

"I'll be damned, well I'm already damned, shit" the old ghost phased through the desk infront of him and patted Enzo on the shoulder seemingly checking his wellbeing.

Night creatures were a specie that typically thrived around dark, gloomy places most of the time coinciding with evil creatures that laid waste wherever they went…

For example vampires

As such it was hard to find a night creature out in the wild alone.

This kid was a godsent.

"What family are you from kid?" The ghost man asked, a look of familiarity and poise on his face.

Night creatures typically took the family name of whichever vampire family they grazed with, it was a form of identification and a hierarchy.

"Family?" Enzo was a bit taken aback as he quickly asked the void coffin for some information.

Understanding what the old man was talking about, Enzo couldn't help but smirk, he wasn't really a night creature, and even if he was to say he was, the only vampire he knew was Victoria.

Using the name draken however could bring more problems than good.

"I don't have one" Enzo Saif calmly with a tempered tone.

"Oh" somewhat disappointed the old ghost smiled, Enzo probably didn't know where he belonged, after all, it had been long since this planet was consumed..

"What use does a dead man have with family name…" he sighed and smiled dragging Enzo deeper into the library as he passes through several cracks in the walls.

Soon they reached a small room with a massive board.

"I don't know why you're here, but I'll only assume it's for the opportunity left my 'The lady'"

"'Her holiness truly felt love for our race, giving us countless opportunities to become strong. If you have the chance visit the shadow forest, there you'll find our history explained"

The old man explained as he flipped the board on the ground and started writing on it with strange symbols.

"Unfortunately, we were never able to truly seize the opportunity never giving rise to a god talent" as he said those words he felt sadness and pain.

If their clan on Galafray had gone extinct, then it was solely because of their inability to seize opportunities.

"There's probably something at your level so head to the palace, this incantation will help you gain entry"

While he spoke Enzo just stood there stunned by everything. He had just met the old ghost, he hadn't even spoken to him properly and he was already being given opportunities?

It was truly strange

"Aside from that you should have this….its from my family's improved shadow step library" he presented to Enzo a scroll with a strange seal on it.

Shadow step was initially a very rare skill In the night creature race, only reserved for the prominent shadow clan, royalty really. But with lady Victoria adopting them en mass, it became wide spread and various families got their hands on it making it a staple skill of the race.

What he had given Enzo just now was his family's modification of that skill.

"It has the same usage with a more wider reach going up to 10km depending on how far you can feel and the amount of starlight you're willing to burn, typically at your level you'll burn out at 7km, as for what makes it especially special to us….

Is its brand quality

This means you can brand a persons shadow and appear next to them no matter where they are in a 50km radius or line"

This skill made his family of night creatures the best bodyguards in the city. As they were capable of appearing at a moment's notice in front of their employers.

"Why are you giving me all of these?" Stunned by all the information being handed to him Enzo finally asked very confused.

The old ghost was going over and beyond for someone he just met.

"Why? You're family, I don't need another reason other than that" the old man shook his head. He didn't hide his excitement well leading to Enzo's skepticism.

Truth was that he hadn't given up, what the lady wanted for them, even if one night creature remained he wanted it to come to fruition.

"I see" Enzo nodded, he could understand the fila piety from the old man. If he was in the same position he didn't know if he wouldn't be just like him.

"It's not that serious child, let's go I still have other things for you"

Leading Enzo through the many rooms of the library the old ghost went about ranting about the night creature race and their glory in Galafray.

And as for the other members of house of darkness, they could only watch Enzo from the corners discusing with himself with deadpan expressions on their faces.

An hour later in the dead of the night,

"That's all I have for you, if you're capable of doing all that by some miracle then the engine room will be just below"

He explained to Enzo with a satisfied and calm smile on his face

He had Told Enzo everything he could and given him enough to wind through rune city without being caught off guard.

Unfortunately the city had changed a lot with corruption spreading. However if he could find the right mechanisms and pulled off the impossible he could even activate the magic formation embedded in the cities circuit and cleanse it all.

All he needed to do was pass the many challenges.

"Also, you need to be careful, maybe alert your friends in the sky….theres a tyrant not too far away from this building stalking you" the old man added rather casually.

Even in his old days, there was no way for him to kill a tyrant. He didn't expect Enzo to be able to either, thankfully he didn't seem to be here alone.

"Oh, I noticed" Enzo nodded

Enzo had grown quite accustomed to using the night vision skill to divine his safety ever sinde defi. It was not only useful in tracking it also helped avoid danger.

He had caused a vision when he first came here and saw the beast.

"You must have a plan then, good on you" the old man smiled.

He didn't recommend using shadow step to leave because 10km wasn't much of a distance to a tyrant. It could cover it in no time.

"Yes, thank you master??" Enzo smiled bitterly, between the old man's lectures and ranting Enzo hadn't gotten his name, it was quite rude of him.

"Sakrah" the old man smiled then as if asking Enzo for his raised his eyebrow.

"Enzo" enzo replied then turned around to leave, leaving the old man frowning.

"Enzo..." the old man paused several thoughts flashing through his mind.

Long ago, the red god Victoria draken, their lady and the ruler of the world had asked a general but strange question that struck him in the heart

"Is there any of your royals named Enzo?"

It was a strange yet mind boggling question that stuck with the night creature for a long time:

They barely had a history outside of Galafray most of them coming from the nucks and crannies of the darkest parts of the universe.

The question told them two things

The night creature race wasn't born subservient to any other race aside from their royalty

And

Lady Victoria had met one of those royals.

Unfortunately before he could say anything Enzo and his friends and stepped out of the building without hesitation.
