Shadow Weaver: Sole Heir Of The Night

Chapter 77: Challenge

"Right now?" Master Seth asked with a frown on his face.

This kid had just finished a fight; now he wanted to get into another one? That was strange.

"Yes, I am very excited to show what I have learned to the whole class," Enzo reaffirmed with a smile that wasn't a smile, his gaze falling back to House Snowfall—directly now at one of the young men with white hair.

This was his roommate's friend. He had seen him in the room several times; he was called Xion Snowfall. He was one of the people that attacked Zhou and Mira.

"Okay, but that would need weapons…" Master Seth looked around briefly, trying to catch a glimpse of the weapon rack in the room.

"No need, I have mine right here." Enzo looked over at Raven and nodded, prompting her to throw a silver sword into the air.

"Ahh?" Master Seth was taken aback not just by how quickly Enzo brought out a weapon, but also by the shape of that weapon.

'Looks more like a torture weapon than anything.'

He mused, then nodded.

"Would Mr. Xion Snowfall please accompany me in this display?" Enzo spoke straightforwardly, inviting his next opponent to the floor.

'Snowfall again, seems like they have a grudge.'

Master Seth thought, then beckoned Xion to come forward. Xion was a blue star weaver; he was incredibly talented—not like the other boy. This would be better teaching material…

A bit bitter, Xion stepped forward and looked over to Master Seth.

"Unfortunately, I did not bring with me a weapon," Xion shrugged his shoulders, mocking Enzo's attempt to fight against him.

"Don't worry, you can use mine. The Snowfall family is apt at using blades, yes?" Pulling out a blade from his side, Master Seth extended his hand toward Xion, providing him with his very own personal weapon.

This caused Enzo to frown for a moment and Xion to beam with glee. The weapon of a master was typically reinforced a hundred times more than the ones made in the institute.

Was it even fair, using this against Enzo?

"Calm down, you won't be able to use any of its abilities. This is just a disarmament duel," Master Seth shook his head. He wasn't stupid; that thing, if unlocked fully, could probably cut Enzo in half.

"You guys can begin at any time." Walking out of the circle, Master Seth waved, allowing them to commence.

Enzo, seeing this, bowed slightly and looked back at Xion, who looked very smug at the moment.

'His confidence is coming from the blade? Is this person retarded?'

Enzo couldn't help but think.

A blade was only as effective as the person behind it. When he designed his sword, he did so with his intended style in mind. What was the use of having a strong weapon you could not use?

Well, Xion would have to learn this principle the hard way.

"Die for me, you nobody!"

Xion moved forward, slicing sideways at Enzo, aiming directly for the nape of his neck.

Woosh.

Enzo effortlessly dodged, then swung his sword sideways as he sidestepped Xion, moving into his blind spot.

"Hmp!!"

Xion quickly reacted, switching his sword hand and blocking Enzo's side slash.

Cling.

Both blades clashed, releasing a resounding pang that reverberated through the room.

Enzo had made this sword not because he just wanted a change in weaponry—it was done for a particular reason, one born from the desire to imitate and emulate a sword form he had once witnessed.

Woosh.

That sword form demanded speed, precision, and most of all, deadly force.

Moving his body with the utmost fluidity, he seemed to disappear and appear right above Xion with a descending slash.

Grinnn.

In confusion, Xion looked back and raised his sword to block. The two weapons clashed once again.

But whether it was his lack of proper footing or the fact that the blade from his opponent had started spinning, his weapon flew out of his hand and into the ground.

"Ahh!!!!"

The moment after this happened, Xion erupted into a bloody scream, and blood gushed from his hand—a bloody mess evident and one pinky finger gone.

Enzo's fighting style was a combination of watching the vampire queen slay monsters and his own personal experience.

Against this person before him, it was like using a chainsaw to cut down a twig.

"Ahh!! He cut my pinky! I want his head! I swear we can't live under the same sky!!" Rolling on the ground, Xion cursed, his previous smugness wiped off his face in a matter of seconds.

"Really? He didn't even put up a fight."

Someone in the crowd commented.

"Is this House Snowfall? I'm disappointed."

Another chimed in.

This fight was over in three slashes. It was beyond embarrassing.

"It's a finger; it can be reattached…" Master Seth commented, turning back to the class to ask,

"What do you guys think he did wrong in this clash?" Master Seth didn't seem to care how badly Xion was hurt.

This was meant to be a practice match. How could he let that slide?

A lot of them in the crowd had similar thoughts, but they were missing one point here. These people were mostly children, pampered by their families. This was not the reality of most weavers. These kinds of things—they had to get used to it.

If Enzo had been hurt, he still wouldn't pay much attention to it aside from providing medical help.

"Master Seth! I wish to show my experience in the principle of annihilation!!" Suddenly, mid-explanation, a voice resounded.

But this time, it wasn't from Enzo.

"Liaca?" The person who spoke just now was the young lady from the Snowfall family.

Liaca Snowfall currently had red in her eyes—a clear sign of her anger and frustration. Enzo was humiliating House Snowfall.

"Annihilation is too dangerous. In future, we will get you some corrupted beasts to practice on," Master Seth glanced at her casually and waved it off.

The other principles were fine and good for sparring, but that of annihilation was a killing art.

That was the main purpose—

To kill.

So he ignored her and continued his lecture, but the next few words out of Liaca's mouth caused him to pause.

"Master Seth, do you seek to humiliate my House Snowfall?!!" She barked with a clenched fist and a strong voice.

"House Snowfall?" Master Seth paused, then looked at her through the corners of his eyes.

He was an instructor; what did he care about House Snowfall? It was a student organization. But that wasn't what she meant.

And he knew it.

She was threatening him with the name of the Snowfall family.

"Gutsy! I like it." Master Seth spoke with malicious glee.

"But princess, you do realize that if he kills you, then you're just that—dead. Your family might be influential, but I don't quite know if they can bribe death yet."

He added with a mocking tone, forcing everyone around to feel a grim come over them. Hearing an instructor speak about death was the most uncomfortable thing they could imagine.

"My house is not weak!!" Liaca doubled down, not ready to back down.

"Good. No holding back. Everything at your disposal. Whoever dies loses!!"

Master Seth spoke, and suddenly the training room seemed to close shut, with every entrance sealing from the outside.

"Come forward," he said, walking to the crowd and making them spread out, leaving her to step into the circle.

As soon as she landed, she summoned a butcher's knife and licked the edge.

"I bet you didn't think you'd be dying today, huh?" An evil smile appeared on her face, the red in her eyes still apparent.

"I've killed things—people much stronger, more special than you. You're nothing but another statistic," Enzo sneered at her attempt to intimidate him with an echo.

Without a second thought, he placed his sword in its sheath and on his back before summoning his own echo.

"To the death," Enzo spoke.

"To the death," she replied, then immediately moved—her figure blurring from Enzo's POV.

In a split second, the butcher's knife swiped at Enzo's leg, forcing him to lean to the left and dodge. She didn't stop there, immediately getting to her feet and dashing at Enzo once more with her cleaver.

Liaca was not so different from Enzo; she had killed not just monsters in her first voyage but also humans. The killer instinct that was engraved in her was that of a murderer.

Cling.

The two of them clashed in the circle, quickly exchanging several deadly attacks aimed at a quick death.

"Liaca is crazy, we all knew that. Wonder why the kid would even provoke her."

"She's just a spoilt brat throwing a tantrum. The great star boy basically crippled two people already; this is just a waste of time."

The crowd commented as they watched the two fight intensely.

"She's using an ability…" Enzo muttered under his breath as his dagger failed to stab Liaca for the fifth time.

She was good, but not so good that she could dodge attacks by the millisecond.

"Well, two can play at that game," Enzo muttered venomously, a cut on his cheek protruding steadily.

At this point they had fought in sharp bursts for close to 10 minutes, the scars on their faces an evidence of that stress.

Suddenly, she dashed at him one more time, but several tentacles made from shadows shot out from her very own shadow and held her in place while Enzo flashed forward with his dagger, aiming directly for her chest.

However, just an inch away from her chest, Enzo suddenly felt blood build up in his mouth as a palm strike appeared from nowhere and sent him flying.

Boom!!

Before he knew it, his back struck the far wall of the training room, forcing him to clench his chest.

"That…" Enzo's gaze became blurry as he saw the figure that had struck him.

"You forgot one more principle, my boy—the principle of evasion." Master Seth laughed mockingly, as if he hadn't just nearly sent Enzo into a coma.

However, his words didn't seem to bother Enzo anymore as he struggled to let out a word tied in his tongue.

The power he felt just now, the level of dread...

"Tyrant," Enzo muttered before going unconscious.

Master Seth was as strong as a Tyrant!!
