Shadow Weaver: Sole Heir Of The Night

Chapter 99: Untitled

After slaying Mother Venom Milk, Master Seth got into contact with Defis authorities and turned in her body for a bulk sum of 10,000 years of lifespan, from which he handed 4,000 to the beta team to share equally.

They were 7, so it went 7 ways, with Enzo making an instant 570 years. However, Master Seth didn't take a dime from the killing of the Son of Poison… his bounty evaluation placed him at 3,000 years.

Enzo, Zeke, and Raven shared the 1,500 amongst themselves, taking their overall time to a thousand years at once.

"Heheh."

Staring at the timestamp written across his arm, Enzo couldn't help but smile while seated atop a tall tree beside the mountains.

1,000+ years of lifespan.

He had never been this rich in his lifetime, and then there was the matter of the Star Essence he still hadn't sold. When he was done, he would probably be able to afford an apartment off planet.

But this wasn't the time for that yet, an apartment wasn't a home. Nor was it what he envisioned for his family. If he wanted to move to a super world, it would only take him 10 days.

"Still a lot of work to do," Enzo muttered under his breath.

As he was smiling, a rustling sounded from a far distance, drawing his attention as he pulled out his sword.

Seconds later, a creature with a sharp sword for a nostril rushed out from a nearby bush, slamming into the ground and barreling forward.

"Puuu." Seeing it, Enzo let out a whistle and leapt down from the tree, landing directly on the back of the speeding creature.

The moment he did this, several others sprouted from the various hiding places, with electric guns shooting at the creature while Enzo grabbed the creature by the horns.

After killing Mother Venom Milk, they had been reassigned to help the Alpha team capture beasts and transport them to earth in batches.

This would be the better half of their academic year, as they would frequently go back and forth from here to the academy for teaching.

"It's not reacting to shock rounds!" someone from afar alerted as everyone switched to a chemical-based sedation round.

Soon a new round of bullets flew through the air, striking the creature in different areas as Enzo tried his best to steer the creature.

Slowly the creature began to lose its strength, the chemical sedative weakening its body and slowly bringing it to a halt.

"It's down!" Enzo called out, his hand raised, signaling for the bullets to come to a halt. He then slowly got down from the beast and allowed it to fall on its side.

"Pack it up," Enzo signaled after checking the pulse of the motionless rhinoceros.

Minutes later the two crawlers, Alpha and Beta, came out from the forest and wrapped the creature up in nets before repositioning themselves.

Every creature they caught added to their final grade at the end of the school session. It was a great help.

"Enzo." While Enzo and the members of Alpha team came forward, a young girl named Kin, she was rather close to Savage Wolf.

"Yeah?" Standing up, Enzo walked towards her questioningly.

Team Beta's exploits with Mother Venom Milk and the fact that they took out a demon offspring on their own had garnered them a good amount of respect from Alpha team.

Enzo was a special focus of this respect. The rumors of him killing a great terror were one thing, but this demon spawn was too much of a coincidence.

"Raven… she's looking for you, says your little brother wants to talk," Kin spoke rather casually. She didn't know Enzo had such a loving family back at home.

Just as she was going to speak some more, she saw Enzo walk off with some frustration and worry. He took massive strides towards the Beta crawler and opened up a coms network.

"Brother Enzo!!" On the other line, the first voice he heard was the high-pitched one of a young boy.

"Sigh!!" Confirming that it was indeed him, Enzo couldn't help but sigh helplessly.

This was the second time in two months.

Carlos's power seemed to activate when he perceived himself to be in danger and would teleport him away. But because he was connected to the Void Coffin, he would simply appear inside it.

"John, you guys can take it from here, right? I have something to do," Enzo said with a smile that wasn't a smile.

He had to get Carlos back to earth before Master Seth found out he was harboring his little brother on the base.

"Sure, man, we are almost done for the day. We'll see you back at the base." John nodded. Enzo had contributed to saving his life back then. Small favors like these were nothing.

Leaving the crawler, Enzo phased into his shadow and made several repeated jumps, moving through the forest at an incredible speed.

He was much more powerful now than when he got here originally. His speed was double, and so was his stage.

In fact, he just needed a little push to enter stage three as of now.

15 minutes later, Enzo arrived at the gate of the base and went directly into his room's hallway using Shadow Step.

"Brother Enzo…" Out of nowhere, Carlos appeared just as he was about to unlock the door and wrapped his hands around Enzo.

"Ahh," Enzo sighed, looking at Carlos.

A weaver and a star weaver were two completely different things; his body growth after becoming a star weaver had more or less turned him into an adult in his early years.

In contrast, Carlos still looked 13.

"Where did you weave from?" Enzo asked, pulling Carlos off and asking.

He was very much interested in his brother's journey through the universe. Whatever problem he encountered was to be recounted to Enzo so Enzo could come up with a solution for next time.

"Uhhh, somewhere called Gantana. Mister Zed and the team got a security detail mission to escort a merchant caravan," Carlos explained as they went into the room together.

Zed.

This was the name of one of Zeke's sky friends. He had a small mercenary company and hired people to complete a variety of missions.

Seeing Enzo's predicament with his little brother, Zeke readily introduced him to Zed as a sort of guide into the dangers of the universe.

"When we were passing through a mountain edge, we were suddenly ambushed by a group of mountain bandits, and a serious battle resulted from it."

"Mister Zed was going to be sneak attacked, so I helped, but unfortunately got knocked off balance, falling off the mountain." Carlos smiled bitterly, a "my bad" expression on his face.

Death by tripping sounded like a very embarrassing way to go.

"I survived though…" Carlos added, seeing the stare of disbelief from Enzo. Clearly this story was just too embarrassing for him.

"I was able to get on my feet and walk a couple miles before suddenly ending up here," he added.

This Enzo didn't know if it was true or not, but a quick glance at the bandages around his waist was a clear sign.

"You have to be more careful. It doesn't matter who it is, never sacrifice your well-being to make sure someone else lives. It's a sure-fire way to die. You know weavers die every day, even star weavers like myself. Look…"

Enzo went into a long lecture, explaining philosophies of survival of the fittest. Carlos was young, so he was naturally inclined to being childish. However, the universe did not care about one's inexperience.

Everyone was a prey, no exceptions.

"Come on, we need to leave." After explaining all he could, Enzo held Carlos by the hand and took him through the corridor and outside the base before seamlessly entering the woods and disappearing.

Some time later, they weaved back to earth, with Carlos waking up in his body at home and Enzo waking up in the hangar of the institute.

"I'll use this opportunity to get the remaining time from Zhou and maybe open a time capsule account."

Receiving a thousand years of time opened Enzo's mind up to the real possibilities of being robbed of not just his time but also his life.

It was no wonder that those with crazy backgrounds like the Snowfalls had little amount of time on their timestamps.

There was a solution to this, though, and it was creating a time capsule account where one could store all their saved-up time and even gain interest on it.

Without looking back, Enzo exited the hangar and prepared to leave the institute's doors.

However, as he was doing this, he noticed an abnormality in the crowd present in the institute today.

There were several groups of strange men and women, not too old, but definitely above the age range of the institute's students.

"Maybe a reunion," Enzo said, then shook his head.

This was not the time to think too much; he had other things to do.
