[One-Star Attack Card]
[Use: Can exhibit one random attack equivalent to the power of a first-level evolved]
Leon gazed at the item in his hand, his brows furrowed. He agreed that the item was indeed impressive. However, he didn't need it. With an exasperated sigh, he tossed it to Aisha. The young lady collected the card, checked it, then shrugged.
Leon took five more first-level crystals and poured them into the machine. The panel flickered with letters.
[Do you wish to replace items on the wheel?]
No!
Leon immediately rejected it. Until he got everything desirable on the wheel, he wouldn't replace them. The wheel shimmered, then another item replaced the attack card.
Leon's gaze darkened as he recognized it. Even the evolved ladies behind him recognized it.
"Eh? Only one first-level crystal?"
One of them muttered, astonished. Slowly, they began to understand the shrewdness of the Lucky-Spin Machine.
Leon pressed 'play'.
The wheel spun for a few seconds, then slowly stopped. Everyone watched with held breaths as it stopped on an item.
'One-Star Evolution Potion.'
Leon's gaze further darkened. The item acquired could be gotten easily back at the shelter. His luck was just so bad, picking this item.
In a bad mood, Leon declined the total replacement option, then payed another five first-level crystals.
Closing his eyes, he pressed the 'play' button. Sticking to custom, the wheel spun fast, then gradually slowed.
[Congratulations! You have won a single first-level essence crystal]
'Ugh…'
A vein popped on Leon's head, his clenched fists trembling. The third try had ended in the most useless draw. Using five crystals to get one? Ridiculous!
Still, he hid the pain in his heart and payed for the next round. Now, there were three slots filled with one first-level crystal each. The possibility of drawing those infuriating crystals had increased.
"Uh-oh. This does not look good."
Sylvia's pessimistic voice echoed in the silence, though no one responded to her.
Leon closed his eyes again, and silently prayed. His finger hovered about the button, and he pressed downward. The wheel spun, the item was chosen.
Seeing the item, Leon sighed in relief. He had drawn the mysterious item. The system immediately displayed its information.
[Siber Roots]
[A lifeform that refreshes essence upon contact, consumption, or close proximity]
[Growth Stage: Infant]
Leon's eyes glinted. For an evolved, using their class abilities and skills required essence. Essence in every evolved was finite, only growing higher as the evolved advanced to the next level. Rejuvenation Potions were used to recover and replenish essence. However, this plant lifeform offered such benefits by even standing near it. Without a doubt, it was a good thing.
'I'll leave Aunt Elena to nurturing it.'
He carefully passed the glass bottle containing the roots to Rebecca, then turned to the wheel again. As expected, a single first-level crystal had replaced the lifeform.
His expression hardened. Chances of drawing an essence crystal was higher. Yet, he went ahead and paid the price again.
'Hoo, am I gambling?'
Normally, the others wondered why he didn't bring the machine to the shelter. Unfortunately, he couldn't. That was because the machine couldn't be moved, and would eventually disappear, relocating to another part of the world.
Under the evolveds' expectant gazes, the wheel spun, then slowed to a stop. As soon as it stopped, a string of curses exploded from the Red Valkyries.
Usually known for their composure, the women couldn't hide their frustrations this time. Seeing the pointer stop on an essence crystal displeased them.
As for Leon? He took a deep breath, then opened his eyes. Behind those purple orbs, murderous intent towards the machine slowly accumulated. As if to mock him, the machine displayed a message:
[Congratulations! You have won a single first-level crystal]
The colorless crystal appeared in his hand, and he tossed it into his mouth.
Crunch!
Under the Valkyries' surprised gazes, he ate the crystal which barely aided his evolution. This was just his way of showing irritation.
He didn't hesitate, and immediately payed the price for the next round.
The wicked wheel spun under their gazes, then stopped. A collective sigh of relief echoed from the women. This time, it hadn't stopped on a crystal. Instead, it had stopped on the Code 408D Manual.
Holding the scroll in his hand, Leon's eyes glinted. His real target had been this scroll all long. While the Swordsman and Summoner Class Cards were enticing, they could be gotten through other means.
The Code 408D Manual couldn't be gotten anywhere else. Thus, Leon was delighted when he received the scroll.
He casually tossed it to Rebecca, then returned his attention to the machine. A familiar option was displayed.
[Do you wish to replace items on the wheel?]
Leon agreed, then paid five second-level crystals. The wheel flickered, then reappeared. On it, five items were displayed. A large, one-headed futuristic battle-axe, a plain-looking shield, a second-level evolution potion, a pill concocting cauldron, and a black full body, heavy armor. Naturally, everything was at Two-Stars.
Leon was satisfied with the options, then proceeded to press 'play'. As usual, the wheel spun, taking several seconds to rotate, before it stopped.
"Not bad."
Leon remarked, weighing the battle-axe that appeared in his hands. It was light and easy to wield, yet dangerous with its sharpness. His thoughts naturally drifted to Cassie. She was still using the Bone Axes he had gotten for her months ago. Perhaps, he should gift her this one. After all, he was her big brother, right?
He handed the axe to Aisha, then prepared to go for the next round. Bored from watching, Sylvia walked away, dragging the third-level zombie corpses with her. Her intentions were obvious.
Leon didn't pay attention to her and payed the price. The wheel spun, then stopped. The pointer hung above the black armor.
Before Leon, a big box appeared, containing the pieces of the armor neatly arranged. Even without his order, a few Red Valkyries carried the box back to their vehicle.
Holding another five second-level crystals in his hand, Leon steeled his heart to play one last time. It was already a considerable amount of luck spent to not get a single second-level crystal in the second round.
Luckily, Lady Luck lurked around till the end. The pointer stopped on the evolution potion, marking it as the target.
Leon accepted the potion with a nod, then turned away from the machine. As for using third-level crystals to play? Leon wasn't an idiot. So naturally he wasn't willing to use such precious materials to gamble.
Howl~!
A piercing howl interrupted his thoughts, making him realize Sylvia had evolved. He immediately moved towards her location, curious. What new attribute had she gained?
