Apocalypse: Inhuman Ascension

Chapter 81: Red Wings?

The stranger before him had a yellow essence crystal embedded into their forehead. This already implied that this person was a third-level creature.

'Strange… someone like Boss and Sylvia?'

He gazed at his opponent warily, suddenly realizing that there might be more archetypes similar to Leon, in the world.

'Doesn't seem like I can win him. I have to tactically retreat.'

A determined glint flashed in his eyes, and he suddenly attacked his opponent barehanded. His sudden decision left the stranger confused. Why bother attacking with bare hands?

However, right before he reached them, Shadow's hands were enveloped in ghostly green flames and his attack bypassed physical body, directly touching the soul.

Bam!

The stranger shook, then was sent flying. The shock from the attack was palpable, directly imprinting a serious injury on their soul.

"Impressive for an assassin…"

Their voice was flat, yet carried a hint of killing intent.

Shadow's gaze sharpened, and he immediately retreated. The stranger pursued him heavily, mostly relying on kicks to attack. Despite their blinding speed, they could never touch him. He would always narrowly avoid the heavy attacks, or redirect the light ones.

Crack!

The wall to his left collapsed from the sheer force of a kick, making his face harden. Instantly, he realized. He couldn't compete with such a monster. Without hesitation, he activated another one of his attributes. The air condensed into a thick gray fog, blocking the vision of the stranger.

In that fog, Shadow hastily retreated, evading the stranger's pursuit.

"Hmm…"

Staring at the empty space before them, the stranger hummed lightly. Their red eyes gleamed mysteriously, thoughts unknown. Before long, their figure blurred, and they vanished.

...

Ice panted, a serious expression on her face. Zombie corpses littered the ground, some shredded to pieces, while others had several icicles on them.

"Damn it! My essence is almost completely depleted."

Little Tiger complained with a bitter expression. The fight against the zombies depleted most of his essence. Staring at the corpses with a hint of resentment in his eyes, he frowned.

"What is taking him so long? Is it really that important?"

Ice looked around, trying to check for any sign of Shadow, but found none. Just as she was about to reply, another voice beat her to it.

"We need to leave. Have you collected all the crystals?"

Shadow suddenly appeared between them, his expression unreadable.

The two of them weren't really startled, as he was well known for suddenly appearing.

Little Tiger's expression hardened, and he immediately sensed something amiss. "Stronger than even you?"

The assassin only replied with a subtle nod, then glanced at the zombie corpses with gaping holes on their foreheads.

Ice's eyes widened, shocked by the admission. The opponent was stronger than William?

Among the Red Generals, Shadow was ranked second with Cassie, only slightly below Anna. Although the likes of Ye Ming and Professor Oliver surpassed him in strength, his fighting skills and abilities were unmatched. Thus, when he claimed the opponent was stronger than him, they were naturally shocked.

"Alright. Let's move."

Ice said coldly, then immediately moved. Little Tiger followed immediately after, while Shadow lingered a bit. Throwing one last look at the local school building, he turned and followed them.

...

Days later…

|Windsor|

This city had been in a deep power struggle between the humans and the zombies, since the apocalypse began. At first, it had merely been a battle of guns against claws. However, as time passed, humans gained abilities, able to fight against stronger zombies without relying on military armaments.

Unfortunately, the situation soon changed into a stalemate. Zombies evolved, growing stronger and more intelligent. Among the horde, two zombies stood out, and we're named the two Zombie Kings of Windsor. Unlike in Night Veil City where the Granny Zombie King had perished early, these two zombies were very strong. They had the potential to wipe out the human faction residing in the city.

Thankfully, there was a man who could match and suppress them—Martin Dwayne.

When the apocalypse started, he had just been a random person caught off guard by the sudden change. Still, he had fought bitterly, then slowly rose in power. Now, he was the strongest human in the city, being able to keep the two Zombie Kings at bay.

The situation had been in a stalemate until recently. New human forces had joined them, helping to clear out several zombies and making the Zombie Kings to retreat with one of them injured.

At the shelter, Martin sat opposite a foreigner, a big smile on his face.

"I can't thank you enough for this help, Mr. Toji. Because of this, we've been able to drive back those detestable creatures. Sigh, I can't believe they were once humans like us."

Seated opposite Martin was a familiar figure—Toji, the leader of the Saber Fangs shelter. After being exploited by Daddy Ye, he had taken his team and moved to Windsor. Although the journey was perilous, it had only taken half a few days. When he arrived at Windsor, he was gladly accepted by Martin, who needed to break the current stalemate in the city.

The next day, they attacked the zombies, killing hundreds of them and injuring one of the Zombie Kings.

Toji revealed a flattering smile. "No need to be so modest. My people barely did anything impactful. However, you, my friend, was actually able to injure that Blood Zombie. I'm appalled."

Despite being a foreigner, his english was very fluent, and his expression looked very sincere. Yesterday, he had personally witnessed Martin's prowess, and was greatly shocked. Even as a fellow third-level evolved, he realized he wouldn't be able to match the man.

"Hahahaha! You praise me too much. Indeed, that damned zombie is a bit annoying to deal with. Thankfully, I was able to injure it. However, that other Hulk Zombie is a bit more troublesome. Even I cannot match its strength."

Martin was a humble person. When praised, he could only rub his nose in genuine embarrassment. However, he quickly switched the topic to a more pressing issue. Although one of the zombies was injured, it wasn't dead. He estimated it would recover in a few days. There was still the second Zombie King to worry about.

Toji naturally understood the hidden meaning in his words. His expression became serious, and he nodded.

"My friend is right. Those Zombie Kings truly complement each other. The Hulk Zombie King has great strength, while the Blood Zombie King has startling speed. If we don't press our attack, we might never be able to fully eradicate them."

Miguel was relieved as he didn't need to express his intentions directly. "You're right, Mr. Toji. We need to press the offensive. Tomorrow, I believe we should deploy our forces and launch an all-out attack on the horde. I believe with your help, we can wipe them out!"

His eyes blazed with passion, as the two Zombie Kings had been his enemies for months. He wished to see them perish, because they had killed several of his comrades.

"Alright. Let's launch an attack on them tomorrow. We can definitely secure a victory if we put our all." Toji smiled, then revealed an hesitant expression. "Um, there's something I actually wanted to tell you…"

Martin leaned forward, curious. "What is it, Mr. Toji?"

"Where I came from, we encountered a fourth-level creature." Toji revealed, a tragic glint in his eyes.

Martin's eyes widened. A Fourth-Level Creature! This was something he hadn't even dreamed of! Although he had suspicions about the possibility of a higher level, he hadn't encountered one before.

"How? How strong was it?"

Toji revealed a bitter smile, shaking his head, and said. "Very strong. A single attack almost wiped out a team of eight third-level evolved. Luckily, another team appeared and killed that creature."

While listening, Martin's expression changed rapidly. When Toji mentioned the creature's attack power, he was stunned. How could such a horrifying creature exist? Capable of killing eight third-level evolved in a single strike?! It sounded like something from a novel. However, he could tell that Toji wasn't lying. Hearing that information, his heart became heavy, and he felt the need to immediately kill those Zombie Kings before they advanced.

When he heard of the Fourth-Level creature being killed, his eyes widened to the extreme. Unable to contain his shock, he stood up abruptly.

"Toji! You mean some people was able to kill it?! How?! Are they also at the Fourth-Level?"

Martin's attitude didn't surprise Toji in the slightest. If it were him, he'd also be shocked. It was like hearing about the arrival of a dragon, then hearing that it had been slain.

"No. They were all third-level evolved. However, their team is very strong. Even their second-level members could surround and subdue a third-level creature."

Martin fell silent, shocked by the details. A third-level team had killed a fourth-level creature? Was it by luck? He immediately asked.

Toji shook his head. "I can't tell if the final blow was luck, but they had seriously injured it before dealing the final blow. Honestly, my team can't even compare."

Martin remained silent, then suddenly remembered an information he had received a month ago.

"That team… are they called the Red Wings?"
