Cheers and applause resounded within the wide room like an orchestral swell composed by the thousands of students.
The headmaster's void-like black eyes swept across the sea of students, a hearty smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He raised his hand, and the room once again fell into a euphoric silence.
His lips parted slowly, and he spoke, "Many of you have already been shaped into blunt swords..." he paused and looked at a few of the students, including Selina, Jamie, Shelly and Jaden.
He took a few steps to the left and widened his right arm as he gestured at the teachers, Instructors and other faculty sitting on the ornate chairs.
"And all of these are the best arcane knights humanity has to offer; they will be the ones who will sharpen you using the whetstone of experience and knowledge that they have gained by putting their lives on the line."
All of the students shifted their gaze from the headmaster to the ones sitting on the ornate chairs. Scanning them in admiration and awe. Many of them pointed at a few and silently whispered their names to their fellow students.
While the headmaster continued his words, "Each of them is worthy of endless praise. Many renowned arcane knights would risk their lives just to meet one of them for a single moment... Yet all of them let go of their dreams, the dreams that pushed them through the harrowing rifts of the dream realm. Just so all of you could have them safer and better..."
The students' eyes, which already shone with admiration and awe, burned even more furiously after hearing his words, and the loud song of cheers and claps began once again.
Jaden was also a part of the song as he clapped, but his eyes were fixed on a single person. He was an Instructor with greasy, shoulder-length black hair and deep grey eyes; his face bore a stern look, with his nose a bit longer than that of an average human.
He wore a dark tang suit embroidered with crystalline violet threads, and a long cape that cascaded behind his chair in soft folds, never quite touching the ground.
The reason he was staring at him was because of the words that the long-nosed man had spoken in Jaden's head: I remember warning you not to return to this academy... do you think of me as a joke?
Jaden knew that most of the Instructors and Teachers were new, but not all of them were. So an Instructor could know him... but
'Why is he talking like that...? Is he threatening me? What for?'
His expression was dark; he simply did not have the memories needed to form any conclusion about his words. So, it left him with no other choice but to ignore him.
At the same moment, the headmaster finished his words, "I believe that is enough of the assembly. I hope all of you improve greatly under the tutelage of the brilliant teachers and Instructors."
After finishing, he clapped his hands. Just as he did so, a monocle appeared on his left eye, and the sunlight that was streaming through the round glass roof suddenly turned solid and began to crack, turning into fine sand. The golden sand drifted toward the students, seeping into their academy badges.
The badge shone with a dim yellow before numbers and letters appeared on it. They were their section number.
Jaden looked at his badge, and it had a white S0 imprinted on it.
"S0...? Don't the sections usually range from A to D?" He mumbled and turned to look at Zaria's badge. Surprisingly, she also had a white S0 on her academy badge, and similarly, she also had a confused look which mirrored Jaden's.
She turned to look at him, only to find him staring at her badge in confusion.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
He shifted his head and looked at her face as he replied, "Do you know anything about this S0 section?"
She sighed and replied with a shake of her head.
"I don't know anything about S0..."
He heaved a sigh and looked around to find other students from their section. But he couldn't find any at first, he channelled his mana into his eyes and looked at the students sitting at the front and back.
As he did that, he found the first student who had the same section as them. Unexpectedly, he already knew the student. It was a female; she was Selina Miravale.
Seeing that, he looked at the others who were trapped with him, and surprisingly or unsurprisingly, all of them also wore a confused look as they stared at their badges—All except Shelly, whose calm expression stood out like a quiet storm among the confused faces.
'Is this a section for the ones who were not able to attend the classes of the first year?' He turned his head towards Zaria. 'Then why is she in the same section as ours... isn't she a topper?'
Just then, Zaria leaned back in her chair with a defeated look and turned her head towards him. She raised an eyebrow upon seeing him looking at her and questioned with a frown, "Is there anything wrong?"
He shook his head and replied, "Nothing."
She gave him a slight nod before forcing out a cough, "You don't have to think too much about your section. We will find what it is about pretty soon."
He smiled at her act of assurance and spoke softly, "Yeah... Thanks."
The headmaster snapped his fingers, and the familiar sensation of the world shifting hit him once again. He placed a hand on his head and shut his eyes.
The sensation disappeared the next moment, and when he opened his eyes, he stood before a tall wooden door which had a white S0 imprinted on it.
"Why does she have to do it all the time?" Zaria said with an irritated look as she leaned against the wall.
Jaden turned towards her and questioned in puzzlement, "She?"
She nodded at him and replied, "That wasn't the headmaster's doing… it was Yorina Zion— the contractee of the Fairy of Space."
