DIIIIIIIIING
The sound of the elevator opening echoed out, and Everlearn stepped out with a bag crossed over his shoulder.
Walking forward, he was close to reaching his dorm room when he took a step back as the door of the room next to his was suddenly swung open.
The one who stepped out was a pink-haired girl with a cat-ear headphone wound around her neck.
She paused the moment she saw Everlearn, her eyes slowly bulging until they widened to the max.
Not again.
"EVVERRRRR."
Rosa screamed and jumped into his arms while tearing up as Everlearn rolled his eyes.
"You… waaah, ahhh, ahhh. I thought you died… aaah."
"Hahaha."
As much as Everlearn felt tired, a small chuckle forced its way out as he listened to her cries.
It was a weird one, sounding as if she was laughing instead of crying.
Even though it was subtle, Rosa sensed it.
She jumped off him and then knocked him against the railings, pressing the pod to his face as he raised both hands.
"You son of a donkey. You kept me worried for months."
"Please. It's not even up to three full weeks."
"Tsk. Should have saved my worries." She stepped back, and he finally rose upright.
Her hand shot out fast, snatching something from his grip.
"Hey, that is my…" She ignored him, sliding his room card over his door scanner.
It opened immediately, and Rosa flung the card back at him.
Everlearn caught it a few inches away from his nose.
When he turned back to her, she had already disappeared into his room.
"You mannerless duck. I have told you not to barge into my room without my permission."
Everlearn entered his room and found her sitting on the sofa with her hands gripping one of the game controllers.
"Where have you been all this time?" she asked, switching on the TV and picking a game.
It was as if she couldn't hear his complaint at all.
He rolled his eyes at that.
"Some expedition."
"And you could not even leave a word about that, huh?"
She fumed while her hands kept clicking the game pads.
"What are you, my mom or something?"
Everlearn replied, sitting on the sofa.
'Now, let's see what this is all about,' He thought expectantly, hands reaching for his bag.
But before he could, he felt a leg cross over his lap, something soft touching his shoulder.
When he turned, her face was just a few inches from his, her lips pursed weirdly.
"No. But if you want me to be your sugar mama. I might consider." Rosa whispered with a wink.
"Ewwww. Fuck off."
Everlearn pushed her legs away.
She grinned, but her eyes moved to the game.
Seeing that her bike had tilted off the track, she quickly shifted back into game mode.
"What? It is not like you have any girl you are talking to."
"You don't even have a girlfriend, do you?"
"For the millionth time, I do not need one."
He unzipped the bag and brought out the contents.
It was the same as when he first walked into X Guard.
A new device, a memory card that probably held every instruction for the second year, and a purple card, which was the key to his second-year dorm room.
Rosa's eyes faintly caught them.
"And what are those?" She asked half-heartedly, but then it hit her, and she quickly paused the game and stared hard.
"Waaaiiit. Don't tell me… wait, did you steal this?" she asked as Everlearn rolled his eyes.
Of course, she would find an excuse. She always did.
"No. What I did do was get myself promoted to second year."
"For real?"
Rosa gasped and picked up the memory card and the purple dorm card.
They were both brand new, completely unused.
"No way. You really got promoted."
Her shock made Everlearn grin with pride.
"Whyyyyyyyy. Waaah… ahhh… ahhh."
She burst into crocodile tears again, her nose turning pink as she rubbed it all over Everlearn's shoulder.
"Hey, get off me."
He pushed her head back as she covered her face.
"How… how could you get promoted?"
"It has not even been four months. That is so unfair… ah… ahh… ahhh."
"Tsk." Everlearn scoffed.
"Talk about being a bad friend. I was expecting congratulations."
"Nooooo. This cannot be happening… ah… aha… ah."
"You are leaving me alone… in this hellhole… ahhh… ahh."
She cried bitterly, but Everlearn ignored her.
He did not want to insert the memory card into his device yet.
Better to do it in his new dorm room, which he planned to leave for soon.
Before that, there were a couple of things he needed to take care of, and that included earning back as many points as possible from the equipment in the room.
He had designed it heavily, and it had cost him points.
There was no way he was leaving all this behind.
The one who would gain everything was that bastard dorm officer who would surely sell everything and pocket the points for himself.
"Hey, I need your help packing. Wanna help me out?"
Everlearn rose to his feet only for his arm to be grabbed.
He turned to Rosa, who, as expected, had no tears on her face.
"Can you stay for a little longer?"
Her voice was soft and pitiable, almost enough to pierce Everlearn's iron heart.
"How long?" he asked.
"Just six months more."
"The hell?"
Everlearn yanked his wrist free.
"Six months? Hahaha. You want me to stay in this hellhole for six more months?"
"Nah, that ain't happening."
"Help me pack my gadgets. I am planning on trading them back for points."
He walked toward the bedroom.
"And the games too?" she asked.
He nodded.
"Tch. Stingy donkey. You will not even leave them for me."
"You are the daughter of the Principal of X Guard. Points are the last thing you lack in this life. Maybe a little bit of manners is much needed, though."
"You son of a donkey!"
"Now, hurry up and get to work."
