Chapter 123: Mech Module Class (I)

DRIIING!

DRIIING!

The sound of a vibration echoed through the dim bedroom, illuminated by the soft moonlight spilling in through the half-opened window.

A hand that crawled out from the sheets, grabbing at the vibrating device before dipping back in.

There was silence for a couple of moments before the sheets were pulled off and a head bopped out.

It was Everlearn with messy blue hair and drooping eyes, his face illuminated by the glow of his device.

He could see the time:

"5:00"

This was the alarm he had set in preparation for his first class, which would take place at 6:00, just an hour from now.

The last thing he wanted to do was be late on his first day.

Getting off the sheets, he immediately headed for the bathroom.

Just 30 minutes later, he stepped into the living room, fully dressed in the attire given by the academy:

A long, knee-length lab coat in a Tiffany-blue colour.

He wore a white round-neck shirt, mostly hidden beneath the coat, along with black trousers that complemented the coat quite well.

Grabbing the purple card off the table and giving one last look at his room, he stepped out.

The door closed, and all the lights went out, plunging everything into darkness.

VROOOOOOOOOOOM!

VROOOOOOOOOOOM!

The sound of engines rumbled past Everlearn as vehicles, mostly Tron powerbikes and some cars, streaked past him at blurring speeds.

Unlike the Newcomers' area, where students used hoverboards, the majority of the 2nd years used Tron powerbikes, like Rosa's and some were even able to afford flying sports cars.

In the second year, the level of wealth was entirely different, and for good reason:

Earning points has become easier; with some hard work and quest completion, acquiring points for utilities like bikes and cars is no longer difficult.

Also, point bullying among second-year students was strongly discouraged and strictly punished by the academy.

Though the ceaseless rumbling filled his ears and the streaks sent his coat and hair flapping intensely, he wasn't much ruffled by them and continued on his way calmly.

Since it was quite early, there weren't many people on the sidewalk. Additionally, many of the students weren't dressed in coats, indicating they were likely just returning from their midnight racing.

But he had not walked very far when he noticed the soft, slowing rumble of a vehicle behind him.

He did not turn, but the vehicle arrived by his side, trailing quietly, and matching his steps.

That made him stop, and he looked to the side.

It was a flying car, one of the R8 Ultrons, a drop-top, and within it was a lady who caught his attention as she was wearing the same lab coat he was.

She had eye-catching short purple hair, and her equally purple eyes were hidden beneath spectacles.

"Mech Module Class?" she asked him, her voice ringing clearly amidst the rumbling engine.

That was indeed the class he had.

"Yes."

"That's where I'm also headed to. Wanna come in?"

She asked, and though doubt and suspicion flickered in Everlearn's mind, his face lit up brilliantly instead.

"Thank you," he said, moving to the passenger seat.

The second he was strapped in, she started the car, driving off into the distance.

_________

"You're quite early," she said as they drove.

Everlearn unconsciously turned to his device.

It was 5:36, just 24 minutes before class started.

"Am I? I mean, it's only a couple of minutes before 6:00."

She nodded, pausing slightly.

"Yes, you are. Though the official time is 6:00, Instructor Oirilern only comes in around 7:00 to 7:45."

She explained, and a little "oh" escaped his lips.

'Tsk, and I was enjoying that sleep so good. Should have just stayed in bed and snored more.'

His facial expression gained a hint of disappointment, which she noticed.

"It's quite unusual that you're not aware of that. Are you in any way new?" she asked.

The second year had been ongoing for 3 months now. Obviously, everyone was aware of that, yet he seemed surprised.

It wasn't making much sense.

"Actually, yes. This is my first 2nd-year class," he replied honestly.

She paused, studying him for a while before a brilliant glint crossed her purple eyes.

"Oh, you're Everlearn. The newly promoted student?" she asked, and he nodded.

"Interesting. I didn't think you'd be the early type, judging by the information that goes around about you."

She said, and he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.

While his reputation among the Newcomers was good, the absolute opposite was true among the 2nd years.

Not like he was a sucker for reputation. He never gave a damn about it, and most of the 2nd years were dicks to him.

"I just… wanted to be early since it's my first day, I guess."

He replied, not exactly trying to defend anything, and it made her giggle lightly in amusement.

Only then did it occur to Everlearn.

"So… if class starts at 7:00, then why are you already out at 5:30?" he asked.

She shrugged.

"Habits."

She replied curtly, and he nodded once before falling silent.

The walk to class should have taken 15 minutes, but because they were in a vehicle, it took less than half the time.

Just 6 minutes later, she pulled up at the driveway before a towering skyscraper.

Both got down, moving through the wide-open revolving glass door.

When Everlearn stepped in, he found himself in an ultra-large hall that was completely silent due to the absence of staff.

It made sense since it was still so early, though he quickly faced a dilemma.

He felt lost among the several elevators in the hall, unsure which one led to his class.

Perhaps that could have been an issue, but since he had her with him, he simply followed her into the elevator, watching her press the button for 2A.

Quietly, they were whisked up, and when the elevator opened, Everlearn stepped out into a large lab.
