Mecha Devourer System

Chapter 64: Becoming A Corer (I)

Stepping in just as expected, there were no students; instead were scientists in white lab coats, walking around.

There was a desk at the far end of the hall where a group of scientists sat, and Everlearn walked over.

They raised their heads up, looking at him, and quickly they could tell what his objectives were.

"You wish to undergo the Core Fusion?" they asked, and Everlearn nodded before he brought the card out.

"Yes, and I would also like to see Lady Erendel before that," he said, sliding the card upon their table.

Three of them looked at him with raised eyebrows.

Lady Erendel!?

That was one of the highest-level scientists in the entire Core Fusion Lab.

Why would an ordinary human yet to fuse at such an age want to meet her?

Did he even possess any capabilities to be worthy of her presence?

Even though they didn't say anything, Everlearn still saw the sneer at the corner of their lips.

But the fourth, who picked up the crimson card, stared narrowly at it for a while before a glint of shock passed through his eyes.

"Hey Matthew. You see this?"

The man asked, nudging the shoulder of the other scientist by his side.

Matthew took the card, only for his face to also display shock.

"Lady Erendel Invi Card!?"

The man called out in shock, bringing the attention of the others and even some of the scientists passing by.

"You… How did you get this card?"

One of the scientists said, staring at Everlearn suspiciously, but the boy's expression was as poker-faced as poker could be.

"Can I have my request fulfilled now?"

He asked, and their brows wrinkled before the two got to work typing on the keyboard.

A couple of seconds and they were done, and one had his hands moved to a card creation device at the side, and brought out a card, also crimson in colour, passing it to Everlearn along with the original crimson card.

"The elevator. Scan the card with it, and it will take you to the front door of her lab."

The scientist answered, and Everlearn took both cards before turning back without any more words, disappearing into the elevator.

"Quite an arrogant one," Matthew mused, looking at Everlearn disappearing into the elevator and soon disappearing from this floor.

"If he has her card, this amount of pride is expected."

_________

Moving up the elevator, it only took about ten seconds before,

DIIIIIIIIING!

The elevator chimed, opening up, and Everlearn stepped out, just to be faced with a door made of glowing crimson materials.

Appearing before the door, he raised his hand to knock, but paused at the last second when he saw the card reader on the door instead of a doorknob.

He took back his clenched fist before bringing out the card and sliding it over the reader.

Beep!

It made a satisfying beep, opening up, and Everlearn stepped in.

It wasn't a simple lab like he expected.

In fact, it was like stepping into a different building altogether.

The place before him was a large hall, so large it was like a two-storey building without a ceiling to divide it.

There were different areas of the hall. Some places were labs with test tubes and strange chemicals all over.

Some held large tubes filled to the brim with bizarre chemicals, and there were many more like that.

What was eye-raising was the fact that everything was red.

The test tubes were red, the floor was made from some red gem, and even the lab tables were red.

"And who are you?"

The voice echoed through the hall, and Everlearn raised his head, turning to the source of the sound:

There, about ten meters up, over a stair-like protrusion from the wall, was a lady in spectacles.

Yet even through the spectacles, the iridescent crimson light from her eyes still shone upon Everlearn's face, making him pause.

In a way, her eyes were similar to those of Boss Ash, except hers were a lot brighter.

She had crimson hair, well tied, and a crimson-coloured lab coat was slung over her shoulders.

"Are you Lady Erendel?"

Everlearn asked, and she raised an eyebrow.

He had come into her lab and was now asking if she was the one.

"Is there any chance of you losing your way, in any way?" she asked with creased eyebrows, and Everlearn shook his head.

"No. In a hall as big as this, I expect a couple of other lab scientists or lab interns, so I need to make sure I'm speaking to the one."

"Yes. I am Lady Erendel."

She finally answered.

"Good."

"I am Everlearn Snowfall. And I was given this card by a Corer named Ash."

He said, bringing the card and flicking it up.

It glided in the air, and she reached out her palm as it landed upon it.

Her brows creased.

This was truly one of her Invi cards.

"Ash?" she asked.

"Ash Painonly."

Everlearn completed, and the shining ray of crimson on his face increased brightly, making him shut his eyes close.

VROOOOOM!

He felt the air shake slightly, and he forced his eyes open just to find her less than a meter away from him.

"Boss Ash gave you my Invi card?"

She asked, leaning down until their faces were five centimetres away.

Everlearn unconsciously backed off.

Her aura had undergone such a crazy change, from the previous prideful and even slightly disdainful to a girl who finally met her celebrity crush for the first time.

"Yes. Boss Ash," he answered.

"Unbelievable," she mused to herself before standing upright, reining in the crimson light from her eyes.

Then she eyed him properly, going around him, and Everlearn's neck went rigid following her every movement.

"You're still a human and a Newcomer. So… you're here to fuse with a Core, right?"

She asked, and he nodded.

"I am."

He replied.

"Then you're in luck. A new batch of W-Grade Cores got brought in for some more anomalous core creation yesterday."

"You do know the earlier you create a Core, the better for fusion, right?" she asked, ushering him forward toward one of the lab doors.

"Yes, I do. And did you just say anomalous tests?"

Everlearn asked, as the duo disappeared into the lab door, which shut close.

The second the door was closed, the entire light in the lab was immediately switched off, turning everything into pitch dark.
