The Forsaken's Revenge

Chapter 280: Protect with Your Life!

At this critical moment, Chen Zheng pulled Feng Yueyue into his arms and reached out with incredible speed.

In an instant, the fired bullet seemed to freeze mid-air. It spun madly in his hand, unable to advance even half an inch.

"This..." The man in the suit's eyes widened dramatically, so shocked he could hardly believe what he was seeing.

At that moment, two more men with grim expressions emerged from behind a cabinet, immediately drawing their pistols and opening fire.

In just a few seconds, the room filled with the sound of gunfire as a large amount of white vapor erupted from Chen Zheng's body, forming a protective barrier that shielded them both. Bullets slammed into the white barrier with loud thuds, but they were completely ineffective.

Chen Zheng coughed violently, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Suddenly mobilizing his power had aggravated the injuries within his body, and he could no longer suppress them.

"Are you injured?" Feng Yueyue trembled, thinking he must have been hit by a bullet to be bleeding like that.

By now, all three assailants had emptied their pistols. Their faces were ghostly pale as they stared at Chen Zheng, their eyes filled with utter terror.

Who on earth is this man? He can't even be killed by a gun! Everything happening right now is completely beyond our comprehension. This is impossible!

Chen Zheng chuckled coldly and slammed his hands together. The suspended bullets instantly shot backward, riddling two of the men and turning them into a hive of bullet holes before they collapsed to the ground.

In the end, only the man in the light blue suit remained, standing to the side and shaking uncontrollably.

"You..."

"Don't you dare come any closer!" The man swallowed hard, backing away continuously.

"You have one chance to live," Chen Zheng said as he walked toward him. "Tell me who sent you."

A look of grim resolve crossed the man's face, and he began working his jaw frantically.

Chen Zheng moved quickly, smacking him hard on the back. The man spat out the poison capsule he had been hiding in his mouth.

"I'll talk! I'll tell you who it was..." The man was terrified, knowing full well what fate awaited him now that he was captured.

"It's..."

Before he could finish his sentence, a bullet struck him squarely in the temple. He fell to the ground without a sound.

Chen Zheng quickly threw open the window and scanned the area outside but found nothing out of place.

The sniper must be hiding far away.

"The Military God!"

"Brother-in-law..."

Just then, Zhao Feng and Xu Da hurried into the room. While others might not have understood the commotion, their special training meant they had recognized the sounds of a fight immediately.

"There were two other people hidden in here?" Zhao Feng asked in astonishment, looking at the lingering vapor in the room. "Military God, this was my oversight! I failed to realize that you were the target of the assassination!"

The scene before them spoke for itself. The other two men had been hiding there from the start. If they wanted to kill Feng Yueyue, they would have acted much sooner. It was now clear that Feng Yueyue was merely a decoy; their true target was Chen Zheng.

"Lock down all of Jiangnan immediately. Find that sniper for me, even if it's just a body!" Chen Zheng ordered coldly.

"Understood!"

Zhao Feng immediately left with Xu Da.

Feng Yueyue, however, looked at Chen Zheng with incredibly conflicted emotions. She realized that if he hadn't risked his life to save her, she would already be a corpse.

At that moment, Chen Zheng began to cough violently again, his face turning deathly pale.

"Mr. Chen..." Feng Yueyue's face was filled with worry. "Are you all right? Should we go to the hospital?"

"I'm fine!" Chen Zheng waved his hand dismissively. "The gala is about to start. Shouldn't you get going?"

Only then did Feng Yueyue snap back to reality. "But, Mr. Chen..."

"Go on. I'm really fine."

Feng Yueyue finally turned to leave. At the doorway, she hesitated, still uneasy, and glanced back at Chen Zheng one last time. Only after confirming he seemed okay did she finally depart.

「Meanwhile.」

In the chairman's office of the Ronghua Group.

"Chairman, our assassination... failed!" a man in a suit stammered, prostrate on the floor and shaking violently.

"A bunch of useless trash!" Behind the desk, a middle-aged man in expensive clothes spoke icily, slamming his hand on the tabletop. "After all the effort I put into raising you for so many years, a herd of pigs would have been more useful. Tell me, what good are you?"

"Chairman... that man was too powerful. He wasn't even afraid of guns. We never expected this. But rest assured, the other two took poison and are dead, and I killed the last one myself!"

"Absolutely no information was leaked!" the man on the floor quickly explained.

"Is that so?" the chairman sneered. "Are you certain they're all dead? Because I feel like someone is still alive."

The prostrate man began to tremble even more violently as cold sweat beaded on his forehead.

A handgun was then thrown right in front of him.

"Take care of it yourself. I don't want to get my hands dirty," the chairman said coldly, turning his gaze to the window.

The man in the suit, his face a mask of fury and resentment, paused for a moment of silence before picking up the gun and pressing it to his temple.

With a single gunshot, he collapsed. He'd had no other choice. His entire family was under the chairman's control. If he didn't die, they would.

The chairman glanced out at the world, his voice laced with ice. "You little brat. I should have just killed you from the start."

「At the same time.」

Xiangli Hotel.

The gala had officially begun. Under the watchful eyes of every guest, Feng Yueyue took the microphone and walked onto the main stage.

She was now undoubtedly the center of attention, outshining every other woman present. She was the only daughter of Feng Jingsheng, one of the two biggest financial tycoons in Jiangnan, and his sole future heir. Combined with her stunning looks, she was considered the ultimate goddess. Even sons from powerful families felt they weren't worthy of pursuing her.

"Today is our annual development gala. As this year's organizer, I would like to, on behalf of my father, Mr. Feng Jingsheng, extend a warm welcome to everyone!"

Feng Yueyue carried herself with the grace of her prestigious upbringing, her delivery flawless. After her opening remarks, thunderous applause erupted from the audience, signaling the beginning of the networking portion of the evening.

Following tradition, a successful entrepreneur would take the stage to give a speech...
