When Lin Maoshi saw Chen Zheng ignore him and turn to leave, he first froze, then asked in astonishment, "Are you… letting me go?"
"Fine. You're on your own now," Chen Zheng said with a faint smile. "Well, since you're Lin Xiaoya's birth father, I'll say no more. Whether you live or die, consider it a favor to her."
With that, he and Ming Chong started walking toward the road.
As usual, they waited by the roadside, and before long, a car pulled up. Ming Chong stopped the car. Before its occupants could react, he yanked one man out, tossed him aside, and slid into the passenger seat himself. "Do you even know how to drive?" he asked.
Chen Zheng gave Ming Chong an amused look.
To Ming Chong, it felt as if those words were meant just for him.
Chen Zheng got into the driver's seat and headed toward Crime City.
"Should we go straight to Teluos's office?" Chen Zheng asked.
"Yes, we'll go see him now," Ming Chong said calmly. "He has eyes and ears everywhere. If we linger in the city, he'll find out we're here. We should go to his mansion first, kill him, and then leave."
Chen Zheng's gaze fell on Ming Chong as he nodded. "True. But this time, I'm afraid I'll be stuck at sea for a very long time."
Ming Chong frowned. "There's no other way. On this trip, I plan to take everyone from the Bright Sect with me. We're short-handed, so we'll have to recruit high-level experts to join the Night's Watch."
"Hmm?" Chen Zheng's brow furrowed. "But many of them have questionable backgrounds. Having them join the Night's Watch isn't necessarily a good thing. They could be spies from the Red Lotus Sect."
Ming Chong thought for a moment before adding, "I have no choice. We need more people. If we can recruit more, all the better. Once we're back at the shelter, we can start weeding out those who haven't been infected."
"Alright," Chen Zheng nodded. "Let's take out Teluos now."
The car sped down the road.
About twenty minutes after their departure, two figures landed on the beach. It was a man and a woman. The woman was beautiful, while the man had dark skin and was wearing shorts and flip-flops.
"Damn, is this Crime City?" he muttered. He brushed the dust from his clothes, revealing a combat uniform underneath and a long rifle lying beside him.
"Let's go! Hurry up, we need to find Chen Zheng."
The car drove on, unnoticeably arriving in the eastern district of what was known as Night Town. Chen Zheng knew the east better than any other part of the city, so he decided to enter from there. He remembered his time in the eastern slums, and as he drove through, he noticed the people on the streets seemed to have brighter smiles on their faces.
Although people could freely enter and exit Crime City, the number of ships was limited. Even with cargo vessels, it was difficult to transport everyone out. The passage Teluos offered wasn't bought with ordinary money; it was based on a system he had built himself. Outside Crime City, these "tickets" were worthless pieces of paper. To earn a spot on a ship, one had to offer real treasures—antiques, famous swords, or other items that had value and could be sold.
Nevertheless, many people were desperate to leave. Most had grown weary of this place and were willing to give up everything to return to a normal life. The majority of these people came from the major factions within Crime City.
Some residents, however, had adapted and chosen not to leave. Crime City was a paradox—not too big, yet not too small—with a population of over 700,000.
Chen Zheng spotted a few old acquaintances but didn't stop to greet them. Sitting in the car, he was inconspicuous, but if he stepped out, he would be instantly recognizable. This poor district was now one of the Bright Sect's strongholds, and many people were armed. The Bright Sect now held considerable sway throughout Crime City. Scarface was already a top-tier figure, and after he single-handedly overthrew the entire northern district, many had come to see him as a living legend.
Ming Chong sighed. "It probably won't be long before the network here is made public. In fact, it's already connected to the outside world, though it only links to Teluos. Once he's dead, the Night's Watch or some other organization will move in to impose order."
Chen Zheng nodded. "It can't be helped. All the truly powerful people have left for the major cities, so our position here is precarious. The only solution is to eradicate the Red Lotus Sect's influence as quickly as possible."
As they spoke, their car crossed through the eastern district and headed toward a villa in the city center. About half an hour later, the car pulled up near the mansion. Chen Zheng raised an eyebrow. "Why are there so many guards?"
The front of the villa was already surrounded by people.
Ming Chong sighed again. "Teluos is meticulous. He must have guessed we'd come for him as soon as our business was finished. What do you think?"
"As for me," Chen Zheng said, licking the corner of his mouth, "why don't we just charge them?"
Ming Chong gave him an interested look. "That's exactly what I was thinking."
I'm already at Teluos's level, but it's hard to gauge Chen Zheng's current strength. In a battle of this caliber, I feel like ordinary supers would have trouble stopping us unless they had overwhelming numbers, Ming Chong thought.
"Let's go!"
Chen Zheng wrenched the steering wheel, aiming the car directly at Teluos's villa. At the same time, he slammed his foot on the accelerator, sending the car hurtling forward at incredible speed.
A large crowd had gathered in front of the villa. When they saw the car racing toward them, their expressions changed, and they all drew their military sabers.
BANG!
Just as the vehicle was about to crash into the crowd, the front doors blew outwards.
Chen Zheng and Ming Chong leaped from the car almost simultaneously, charging the men guarding the entrance. These were clearly men from the Red Lotus Sect—the same ones who had previously cornered Ming Chong's group, refusing to let them leave.
Neither of them held back. They didn't even bother drawing their weapons, simply lashing out with their fists. In an instant, many of the guards at the gate were knocked to the ground.
Inside the villa, Teluos's expression flickered. With a wave of his hand, a greatsword resting beside him flew into his grasp. He turned to Mr. Mo and commanded, "They're here!"
Mr. Mo sighed, gripping the blue longsword in his hand. "So, they really came," he lamented. "If Ming Chong and Chen Zheng both fall here, it would be a huge loss for our Night Watch Legion!"
