SSS Class Mythic Beast Master

Chapter 301: Burning (1)

Honor's transformation was completed with an eruption that made the atmosphere itself recoil. His figure blazed with power drawn from eight thousand burning souls, each one consumed to fuel amplification beyond normal limits.

The deathly aura surrounding him manifested visibly as black and grey waves that distorted light itself. His amber eyes behind the wyvern helm shone with intensity, suggesting something beyond consciousness, instinct, and primal drive pushing aside human hesitation.

Honor's massive frame took one step before turning into a blur, and the ground where he stood produced cracks.

Reinhard barely registered the approach before Honor's fist appeared in front of him. Zenuken and Hjorleifa were swiftly brought in front before the fist crashed into them.

The impact sent shockwaves through both blades, through his arms, through his entire skeletal structure. His spiritual armor trembles audibly before he was sent flying backward through the air and onto the ground. His body tumbled across root fragments, bouncing twice before crashing through a collapsed building section.

Stone exploded around the impact point. Debris rained down as he struggled to rise, blood trickling from his mouth where he'd bitten his tongue.

Marie and Joseph attacked simultaneously during Honor's attack. Longinus drove toward his exposed back while Arondight came from the side.

Honor's free hand snapped backward without looking as he caught Longinus mid-thrust. His fingers wrapped around the spear's shaft, stopping its momentum completely despite Marie's full weight behind the strike.

Then he twisted.

Marie's eyes widened in disbelief as her hands screamed with pain as the spear was wrenched from her grasp. Honor spun, using her own weapon as a club to strike Joseph's approaching lance. The collision sent Joseph flying sideways, his body crashing through the root section with bone-jarring force.

The banner swept down.

It smashed into Marie before she could retreat, the torn fabric wrapping around her torso. Honor slammed her into the ground multiple times, once, twice, and then another time. Each impact created craters in the charred root beneath, and blood was leaking down the side of her lips. As Honor went in for another smash, a purple barrier formed above Marie, just as the banner smashed down.

The area shook!

The barrier cracked, but then even more began appearing in overlapping layers, creating a fortress of magical protection. Then roots burst out, wrapping around Marie's form and dragging her away.

Honor only grunted before he blasted out with his fist, and it drove through them like paper.

The first barrier shattered, the second exploded into purple fragments, the third cracked but held for a single second before his follow-up strike demolished it completely. He walked through the defensive formation as if it didn't exist, each step crushing magical constructs before him.

Amiya and Janus attacked from opposite sides. Amiya pummel smashed the ground, leading to a warm glow to appear before a pillar of flames rushed out to devour Honor form. In perfect sync, Janus became a blur of motion. As Amiya's scythe descended, he dropped low before his body rushed forward as his crimson claws glowed in a malevolent red aura.

The claws pierced through the air and smashed into the pillars of flames.

But Honor's body moved through the assault. He didn't block or dodge, but he simply tanked their attackers. Their expression grimaced before they rushed towards Honor. Flames swirled around Amiya's scythe, and then Janus's claws glowed once more.

Amiya's scythe slashed downwards, smashing into Honor connected, and an ear-splitting noise rang out. But instead of a gash, the scythe's only hacked across Honor's armor, deflected by an invisible spiritual armor energy surrounding his body. It left behind thin, smoking lines like fiery scratches, drawing beads of dark blood that welled up but did not flow freely.

Amiya stared in shock while Janus's crimson claws pierced Honor's side, which pushed through his spiritual armor. Into Honor's flesh with a wet, tearing sound, and then Janus willed his claws to expand, the individual digits spreading outward inside the wound to create a grievous internal injury.

But the victory was short-lived as the moment the flesh was torn, it began to quickly regenerate. Muscle fibers writhed like snakes, knitting back together around the crimson claws, attempting to trap them. The damage was being undone almost as fast as it was being inflicted.

Honor grunted before his hand shot out mid-assault, and he grabbed Janus by the face. The crimson-clawed gauntlet scratched uselessly against Honor's forearm as the massive warrior lifted him effortlessly. Then Honor smashed him into the ground with force that created spiderweb cracks radiating twenty feet.

Janus's scream cut off instantly as air exploded from his lungs.

Amiya tried retreating, but Honor's other hand caught her ankle. He swung her in a brutal arc, using her body as a weapon to strike approaching Joseph. Both warriors collided mid-air with a sickening crack.

They tumbled together across root fragments, limbs tangled.

Reinhard emerged from debris with both swords blazing. Hjorleifa shone with an ethereal glow, molten gold mixing with hoarfrost blue in patterns.

World Divide!

He hacked out with horizontal waves from Hjorleifa.

The slash expanded beyond the blade's physical length, becoming a cutting force that split air itself. The wave crashed into Honor's charging form, and for a single instant, the massive warrior's body separated.

Bisected cleanly at the torso, and then reassembled immediately.

But the effect registered as Honor stumbled, his helm shaking as disorientation struck. Being split and reassembled created headaches and spatial confusion even in the berserker state.

Marie capitalized instantly as golden-white light condensed into a single devastating point. She thrust Longinus forward with both hands, channeling a large amount of magic into the strike. The piercing pillar illuminated the entire battlefield, painting everything in radiance that burned shadows away.

The lance struck Honor's chest dead center, and there was a sound like a thunderclap.

A corona of light exploded outwards before Honor roared out in pain and shock as the concentrated power drove him backward. His boots carved two deep trenches through the root fragments as he fought against the unstoppable momentum. A spray of dark blood erupted from the impact point. The spear tip had penetrated his armor and flesh, scraping against his ribs before his regeneration and immense durability halted its advance.

Joseph's elemental control seized the moment before wind gathered in a violent vortex around Honor's position. Simultaneously, the earth beneath his feet liquefied into a thick, grasping quicksand, trapping his legs to the knee and preventing him from finding a solid footing to resist Marie's thrust or launch a counter-attack.

Dozens of circles materialized above Honor's trapped form. Light beams rained down in a concentrated barrage, each one striking with precision that exploited the opening.

Gasping for air, Janus pushed himself up onto one elbow. Seeing Honor trapped and wounded, he activated his signature technique. Janus recovered enough to activate his skill.

Ripper!

The crimson claws, still partially embedded in Honor's side from the initial assault, suddenly flared with bloody light. Inside the wound, the claw-manifestations expanded violently, crystallizing shards of blood that shredded and tore through muscle and internal organs from within.

Enraged and in true pain, Honor roared, a sound that was now more beast than man. His banner swept around him in a full, devastating circle, generating a visible shockwave of pure force that blasted outwards.

The wind vortex was dispersed, the quicksand solidified back to hard stone, and every single light circle shattered into motes of fading energy. Blood now poured freely from his multiple wounds, staining his black armor in dripping crimson.

But he did not fall. Instead, the battle devolved into a brutal war of attrition.

Reinhard's group attacked in coordinated waves, never giving Honor a moment to recover, pressing advantage whenever injuries accumulated. They moved with synchronization born from fighting together, anticipating each other's actions without verbal communication.

Reinhard's Drasil Step became the centerpiece of strategy. Blue ripples swept out repeatedly, slowing time while he repositioned Honor or created openings. His dual swords blazed constantly with Zenuken cutting with black-blue wisps while Hjorleifa warped space itself.

"Power Cutting!"

The blade shone with mixed molten gold and hoarfrost blue before he slashed across Honor's banner. The weapon didn't cut the physical object, but it severed the memory used to bring the attack into reality. Honor's next strike with the banner produced no black aura, no dissolution effect, as the power itself had been cut away temporarily.

Marie's wings manifested continuously, and the spectral forms transformed into Edge Blades. With each blade passing through Honor's armor and flesh without leaving a mark, instead striking directly at his consciousness and life force.

Each hit was a jolt of searing mental pain that made him flinch, the damage accumulating in a way his physical regeneration couldn't heal.

Joseph manipulated every element available. He seized Honor's own dissipating beams mid-flight, redirecting the weathering energy back at its creator. He compressed air into solid barriers while turning the ground beneath Honor's feet into quicksand.

Amiya and Janus worked as a single unit. Amiya would go high with a scythe sweep to the neck, forcing Honor to raise a guard, while Janus would simultaneously dive low to shred his legs. When Honor counter-attacked against one, the other was already there to draw his aggression, their movements a seamless, desperate dance.

Veryn provided support, barriers forming at critical moments to block Honor's counterattacks, light beams striking whenever openings appeared, her analytical mind calculating optimal strike timing.

They injured him, again and again. Blood flowed in rivulets from a dozen new gashes. His legendary armor was now a mess of cracks, gouges, and dents. His movements, once fluid and terrifyingly fast, now occasionally stuttered as the mountain of accumulated damage sought to bring him down.

But Honor didn't falter one bit and was still beating them down.

Every exchange ended with casualties on their side. His fists crashed through guards, sending warriors flying. His banner swept in arcs that caught multiple targets, smashing them into the ground or walls. His raw strength, amplified eight times and then boosted further by burning souls, proved overwhelming despite their coordination.

Reinhard felt his ribs crack when Honor's fist connected just after releasing Drasil Step. Then three of his ribs splintered, and he was sent flying, gasping for air that wouldn't come. Marie gasped after a third direct hit, which threw her across the clearing, rolling through the ground.

Joseph attempted a lance thrust, and Honor took the hit. Before Honor's free hand grabbed the lance shaft and yanked, pulling Joseph forward and into a brutal knee strike to his shoulder. The sound of the joint dislocating was audible, and Joseph cried out, his arm falling limp and useless.

Before he was hurled to the ground, he rushed towards Amiya and Janue, smashing down on them repeatedly.

Amiya coughed blood with each breath from internal injuries. Janus felt cracks in his body as he couldn't keep up with the abuse from Honor's strike.

Veryn collapsed to one knee, then again to both, her nose bleeding from the sheer mental strain. She was pushing her magic far beyond its safe limits, her barriers becoming thinner, her light beams less potent with each passing second.
