Looking off in the direction of the floating continent that had slowly turned into her goal inside the dreamscape, Scaly noticed that there were a few kilometers to the floating island. Although a short distance under normal circumstances, she would have been able to easily cross that kind of distance with a few flaps of her wings outside the dreamscape. Inside the dreamscape, she had to think hard to come up with a way to cross that kind of distance. Having personally experienced how difficult it was to move just a dozen meters through the sky of the dreamscape.
For now, her only option was to deepen her control of dream magic and figure out a way to move through the sky of the dreamscape that wouldn't end up with her causing a scene like last time around when she had gone wild using her wind magic trying to push herself forward.
After all, though she had been successful in reaching her target floating island back then, she had ended updrawing the attention of a dream cloud whale that she was then forced to hide from… And although she might not have to worry about the threat of a dream cloud whale now that she had left the lower levels of the dreamscape that was considered the hunting grounds of the dream cloud whales, she couldn't say for sure that there weren't any other powerful dreamscape monsters lurking within those colorful clouds.
Not to mention, the distance she had to travel this time around was more than a hundred times what she had travelled in the past. Making it even more difficult for her to accomplish without finding some way to more smoothly move through the sky of the dreamscape.
For this reason, after examining her surroundings and making sure that there was no danger around, she began the process of exploring the floating island she had found herself on.
Different from the other three floating islands she had ended up exploring in the past, the new floating island was teeming with all kinds of unique lifeforms, as outside of the dream grazer that was by far the most abundant dreamscape monster in sight, there were countless other unique dreamscape lifeforms.
Among them, one particular dreamscape monster that looked like a colorful jellyfish caught her attention.
Not because of how large it was compared to any of the other dreamscape monsters, but instead because it was the only dreamscape monster she had seen so far that moved through the sky of the dreamscape unbound by the limitations of the small floating island.
[Dream Jellyfish, lvl 13]
[Description: Known as the peaceful drifter of the dreamscape, the dream jellyfish is known to drift aimlessly through the middle and upper levels of the dreamscape without attacking anyone. Sustaining itself by absorbing any dream fragments or unfortunate weaker dreamscape creatures that happen to get caught in its tentacle. Even then, it is often used as a means of transport for those exploring the dreamscape without the ability to traverse the sky of the dreamscape.
Be aware, though peaceful and docile unless one gets tangled up in its tentacles, the dream jellyfish is not to be provoked under any circumstances, as attacking one means becoming a target of all dream jellyfish throughout the dreamscape. A fate that makes travel through the upper and middle levels of the dreamscape impossible, as some ancient dream jellyfish are powerful beyond comprehension.]
Reading the description of one of these unique dream jellyfish, Scaly put aside any thoughts of hunting any of them. Understanding that it might be best to abide by the warning that had been conveyed through the description of the dream jellyfish as a dreamscape native that couldn't be offended under any circumstances.
Still, this didn't affect her too much, as she managed to gleam some important information from the description, the fact that the dream jellyfish could be used as a means of transport. All she had to do was find one large enough to carry her that was moving in the direction of the floating continent and she wouldn't even need to worry about comprehending some new spell or technique to move through the sky of the dreamscape with the assistance of dream magic.
Of course, this did still carry some risks, as entering the sky of the dreamscape was far from safe. Especially when she placed her life in the hands- or rather tentacles of a dream jellyfish.
But considering her current situation, she found this far better than just lingering around on top of a floating island using who knows how long trying to comprehend some way to move more freely through the sky of the dreamscape.
This was not just because she would find it rather boring to do something like that, but also because the strength of the dreamscape monsters on the small floating island she found herself on top of were far from strong enough to provide her with any significant amount of experience.
At most, they served as her first real battle inside the dreamscape, but there wasn't exactly much to it, as a simple push on the side of one of those weak dreamscape monsters was more than enough to make it collapse and dissolve into a cloud of colorful clouds that left behind nothing for her to eat in the process.
[Gained 2 Exp]
To say the experience, she gained after killing the dream grazer was pitiful would be an understatement, as it was by far the lowest quantity of experience she had gained in a long time. Reminding her of the days she had been hunting down oversized rats at the first floor of the Howling Caverns Dungeon.
No… It wasn't just low; it was the exact same she had gained from killing her first level 2 oversized rat. Making it clear that the experience she gained from monsters decreased with her increasing level. Otherwise, there was no way a monster above level 10 would have given her that little bit of experience.
Even if I ended up killing all the dreamscape monsters on this floating island, my progress towards level 39 likely wouldn't even increase by a single percentage point…
Quietly thinking this to herself as she observed the rest of the monsters present on the small floating island, Scaly could not help feeling a hint of disappointment before her attention switched back to searching for a suitable dream jellyfish to take her to the floating continent. Knowing for certain that there was nothing for her to do on this small floating island outside trying to comprehend a way to move through the sky of the dreamscape.
In the end, it took her a good fifteen minutes before she finally spotted a dream jellyfish large enough to fit her on top of it. In fact, the dream jellyfish was more than five meters wide and could easily fit more one Scaly on top of it.
[Dream Jellyfish, lvl 67]
Observing this large dream jellyfish more closely, it was clear that it was on a completely different level compared to the first dream jellyfish she had inspected, but this wasn't a problem given that the dream jellyfish wasn't hostile. Instead, it could be considered a positive thing, as a stronger dream jellyfish would undoubtedly serve as a deterrent for any other dreamscape monsters that might be lurking somewhere in the sky of the dreamscape.
Whoosh~
And so, without any hesitation, Scaly found herself jumping off the small floating island. Encountering the familiar resistance after moving a few meters off the floating island.
Luckily, this time around, the resistance didn't last for long, as she landed directly on top of the large dream jellyfish that had just emerged beneath the small floating island.
Although the resistance was still present, it was clear that the dream jellyfish had some kind of invisible magic circulating around itself that severely reduced this resistance. Allowing it to smoothly glide through the sky of the dreamscape without any problems.
Still, though the resistance had been reduced, it was clear that the speed of the dream jellyfish suffered a similar reduction, as though it was far faster than her when she had travelled through the sky of the dreamscape, it would still take some time before it reached an area above the floating continent.
Calculating the distance and speed, Scaly guessed that she had a little over an hour left before the dream jellyfish reached a point where she could jump off it and reach the floating continent on her own.
For this time, she decided to take the opportunity to properly admire the magical environment of the dreamscape–or that was at least what she told herself, as she was far more focused on trying to see if there was any suitable dreamscape monster for her to hunt down and if there was any who might end up threatening her life in a similar way as how the dream cloud whales had ended up threatening her life on the lower levels of the dreamscape.
