Chapter 160: Night Hunt

Ethan and Risa stepped into the village, where not many people were walking around the streets that night. The two of them walked with one goal, to get to the inn.

When Ethan arrived, he met the inn receptionist. Ethan asked how many rooms were available, and the woman said there were five empty regular rooms and two empty suite rooms.

Because of that, Ethan chose a regular room. It was cheaper, and only Ethan and Risa would stay there.

The transaction was done and successful. Ethan received the key to room number 21, and he and Risa went straight there.

The door opened, and Risa rushed inside, put down her magic staff, then dropped herself onto the bed.

Ethan smiled, walked toward the window, and opened the curtains.

Outside the window was a quiet village street, not many people passing by. There was nothing wrong with the room.

"Are you going to sleep too?" Risa asked.

Ethan looked over and smiled, then said he was sleepy and planned to rest. But he needed to wash up before sleeping.

Risa was the same. She got off the bed and stepped into the bathroom to rinse her body. Ethan glanced at Hissy.

"Watch her. I'm going to buy dinner," Ethan said.

He took out a piece of cut meat, then tossed it to Hissy to eat. Ethan knew Hissy wasn't a lion or a tiger, but for some reason, the snake really liked that kind of meat.

If that food could make Hissy's mood better, Ethan didn't mind giving it.

Right before leaving, Ethan raised his voice toward the bathroom door so Risa could hear him.

"I'm going to the shop to buy some food. Stay here. I'm locking the door," Ethan said.

"Okay."

Soon after, Ethan left the inn and headed to the food shop. When he opened the door, the shop owner smiled as soon as he recognized Ethan.

"Hey, Cheeseburger Guy!"

"Damn it, am I the only one who buys cheeseburgers here?" Ethan complained.

"A lot of people buy them. You're just the first person who asked me to pack it for takeout."

"I'm impressed, really," Ethan said.

"So? What do you want to eat?"

"Two cheeseburgers, medium and small."

"Alright, drink?"

"No need."

The shop owner nodded, calculated the total, and Ethan paid right away. He sat on a bar stool and waited for the man to finish the order.

While Ethan sat alone waiting for his food, the door opened. A party of players came in after a night expedition, bringing a lot of loot.

"Jack, same as usual," one of the men said.

"I'll bring it out."

Ethan didn't really care. His focus was on waiting for his cheeseburgers. He also wasn't interested in that party.

"You remember the abandoned village in the southeast? A tribe started living there again."

"Don't joke! That place is haunted. People even say there's a terrible monster there."

"Where did you get that info about a tribe and that village?"

"People told me. They explored the area, but none of them dared to enter."

They talked, gossiped, and made guesses about what they knew. Because the shop was quiet, their voices reached Ethan faintly.

It seemed the Temarian Tribe had fully moved there.

Not long after, Ethan's two cheeseburgers were ready and wrapped in paper. He took them and left the shop, and his departure caught the attention of the party.

They immediately asked Jack who Ethan was. Jack explained, of course, and when they learned he was the person who caused the massacre in front of the shop, their faces turned pale.

The party didn't expect they had just met a serial killer like Ethan. Challenging him meant death.

Back at the inn room, Ethan stepped inside and saw Risa fast asleep on the bed. Hissy lay beside her.

She looked exhausted.

Ethan placed Risa's food on the nightstand for her to eat when she woke up. For now, Ethan planned to use his time to hunt monsters.

He had limited time. There were two quests he needed to finish soon, the Talent Quest and the Luna Limited Side-Quest.

Ethan locked the door and left the village. He walked while holding his burger, taking slow bites.

His goal was to hunt monsters to get Crimson Slash swings and Moon Fragments.

His steps stopped a few meters outside the village. In front of him, a group of lizards blocked his path. There were five of them.

"I haven't even finished my burger and you show up already?" Ethan said.

"Did you miss me that much?" he asked.

They hissed with rough voices. Ethan sighed, holding his burger in his left hand while his right hand grasped Bloodblade Ashura.

Ethan's hair shifted from black to glowing crimson red. A surge of power ran through his body.

[Mode Ashura Activated]

Even with the power increase, the burger in Ethan's hand was completely unaffected. He dashed forward as the lizard monsters charged at him.

Ethan kicked one of the lizards hard, then swung his sword sideways, releasing a crimson slash toward the monster.

BLAST!

An explosion happened, shocking the other monsters. The monster died instantly without a chance to fight back.

"Alright, I can beat all of you before I finish this burger."

Ethan rushed at another lizard and repeated the same slash. In less than three minutes, all the lizard monsters were defeated easily.

[Talent Quest: Swing Skill 1 800 times]

[Count: 450/800] [Duration: 39:22:45:12]

[Congratulations! You obtained loot:]

[+1250 EXP || +500 Gold || +500 Contribution Points || +5 Moon Fragment]

He stood proudly among the lizard corpses that turned into magic particles. Ethan swallowed the last bite of his burger while watching the particles float away.

"Time to start hunting again."

Ethan ran into the forest with Ashura Mode still active. Nighttime was dangerous for players because monsters acted more aggressively.

But for Ethan, night was valuable. He could hunt for two things, Moon Fragments and Crimson Slash swings.

That was why he preferred hunting at night instead of sleeping.

***

The next day.

Ahren Village.

Risa opened her eyes when she felt her stomach hurt, not from the cold, but from hunger. When she looked ahead toward the sofa, she didn't see Ethan there.

Did he go out to buy breakfast?

She grabbed the paper bag and saw a cheeseburger inside. Without thinking, she started eating her favorite food.

While she was eating, the door opened as someone unlocked it. She looked over and saw Ethan enter, exhausted and not carrying anything.

"W-What happened?" Risa asked.

"I went monster hunting all night while you slept. Thankfully you're fine," Ethan said.

"M-Monsters? How many did you kill?" Risa asked.

"Around 112, I think."

"That's terrifying," Risa said.

Ethan smiled and nodded tiredly. "Yeah. It's terrifying… and exhausting."
