Chapter 117 – There and Back Again 9

Blood covered the ground around the where the spear landed. A big hole on the floor made the pouring blood pool there. Matthew dodged in the last second, but Enkidu's weapon took his right ear and gave him a deep cut on the side of his face.

Matthew acted fast and held Enkidu's foot with one of his hands surprising the warrior. Enkidu suddenly felt a deep sense of dread. He looked at Matthew as he were a monster. An unbeatable monster.

Enkidu started to tremble and shiver as if he was cold. His breathing accelerated and he started to hyperventilate. His body was torn between running away or trying to kill Matthew again. He lifted the spear high and stood there for a while considering if he should try.

But the uncertainty of what would happen if he missed or even if he hit his mark made him freeze in place.

Matthew took that opportunity as his Witchcraft skill filled the warrior with fear. He held his sword with his other hand like a dagger and sunk it on the warrior's foot. A mist of mana opened way for the blade to sink into the flesh. And then the blue flames appeared burning the foot almost whole.

Enkidu screamed and kicked Matthew's head away making him slide on the rough stone floor. At the same time, the ancient warrior jumped back several feet still trembling with fear.

As Matthew got up to his feet, cleaning the blood from his broken nose, his Healing Totem skill closed his wounds. Away from Matthew's hold, the effects of the Witchcraft skill vanished from the warrior making him regain his mind and drive away the dread he was feeling.

Enkidu now had trouble stepping on the floor. His foot was hurt and on fire that could not be put down. He limped using the spear as a crutch.

The warrior growled at Matthew. He underestimated that man. Now that his foot was being burned by unholy flames, the fight was far from over. He needed to kill Matthew before the fire consumed his body.

Matthew armed himself with both his swords again. He smiled at the warrior a wide and creepy smile. His left eye shined bright in red mana. His right ear was almost gone. The wounds healed now. Miasma surrounded Matthew thicker than before.

"Matil." Matthew said out loud without taking his eyes off Enkidu. "I'm going to use my Berserk skill." He declared. "I will kill you if you don't hide."

Matil nodded scared at that declaration. She was not sure what was this Berserk skill Matthew talked about, but he sounded scary. Matil went Etheral and vanished from their sights.

"A Berserker with demonic mana?" Enkidu commented surprised as he lifted his spear and got ready for an attack. "You really a dangerous man."

"I will kill you." Matthew said, his voice different than normal. Deeper and more raspy. "Slowly and brutally." He smiled.

Matthew physique changed after saying that. He trembled as his muscles grew. The demonic mana shined now from both eyes. The blue fire on his swords grew larger and the miasma spread wider.

Matthew howled like a wolf and then laughed out loud. He jumped from one foot to the other having fun with his new power. Then, as unlocking a deep memory that he hid away, Matthew started to sing the song of the imps.

Enkidu took a step back. This time the fear on him was not caused from a skill. That man was deranged. The pain on his foot only grew stronger, but he endured and stepped firm on the ground. He could not allow that wound to hinder his technique. He could not afford the luxury of feeling pain.

Matthew stopped singing and looked at Enkidu. Then he screamed and ran at full speed towards the ancient warrior screaming like a wild beast.

Enkidu tried to stab Matthew before he got close, but he dodged masterfully and, in a blink of an eye, he was close to Enkidu. The warrior dodged Matthew's slash and hit him with the blunt side of his weapon, but Matthew didn't feel it due to his Anesthesia skill.

The next moment, Matthew landed a stab on Enkidu's arm when he failed to dodge it completely.

Now Enkidu's arm was also on fire. But that didn't hinder the experienced warrior. He was fast to regain distance and stab at Matthew repeatedly.

Matthew defended himself from stab after stab looking carefully at his opponent waiting for his chance to act.

When the opportunity came, Matthew kicked the spear upwards and stabbed Enkidu with both swords at the same time aiming both at his chest.

Enkidu let his spear fly away and quickly drew his sword parrying both of Matthew's with a wide swing and then coming down with a quick slash opening Matthew's chest from shoulder to belly.

Matthew didn't react to that wound. He just brought down both his swords on Enkidu hitting him with their pommels on each of his clavicles. On the same movement, Matthew closed his swords like scissors on Enkidu's throat that almost lost his head to that. However, the ancient warrior was fast enough to back away from that strike.

Healing Totem healed Matthew's chest slowly leaving behind only a huge blood trail on where the wound was.

Enkidu's wounds were also healed, but by a skill he had himself.

Matthew noticed that every time his opponent hurt him in any way, he healed himself at the same time. However, Matthew was overrun by his Berserk skill and didn't care. All he wanted was to kill Enkidu.

Matthew charged again and traded blows with Enkidu's sword.

Every slash was met by a parry from both sides. Every thrust was dodged.

Enkidu bore well the pain of the flames spreading through his leg and arm.

Matthew just ignored his own wounds with Anesthesia until his Healing Totem healed them.

It all seemed to be evenly matched until Enkidu managed to dodge one of Matthew's attack by ducking and, in the same movement, kick his legs sending him to the ground again.

This time, Enkidu wasn't going to underestimate Matthew. He didn't give time for him to make any kind of come back. Enkidu swiftly brought down his blade piercing Matthew's belly with brutal strength.

Matthew didn't scream. The hole on his belly was the size of a fist. That was a mortal wound. But, with Anesthesia, Matthew didn't feel a thing.

Enkidu got surprised when Matthew grabbed him by the beard and pulled himself up. With a wound like that, the warrior was sure that that man wasn't able to move anymore. He was wrong.

The ancient warrior didn't have time to react. Matthew slashed his throat cutting and burning his beard in the process. Matthew fell back to the ground with a tuft of burning beard on his hand.

Enkidu held his throat taking some steps back as he gasped for air. The blue flames quickly took over his beard and neck. Realizing that he just lost the fight, Enkidu smiled at Matthew, closed his eyes and waited for his death.

Matthew didn't even see Enkidu vanishing in a mist of mana. His wound was too severe. He lost consciousness as soon as he hit the floor. His hand was still grasping tight on the beard on his hand as the beard itself tuned into mana and disappeared.

Matthew had won. But he was sure to die with a wound that big on his belly.

That's when Matil turned back into her material form. She ran to Matthew with tears on her eyes. Her hands hovered over him.

"Don't die. Don't die." She repeated while healing him. "Please. Matt."

Ffyr came out of the necklace, but didn't say a word. She just looked at Matthew and holped for Matil to be able to heal him in time.

"Come on Matt." She said getting ready to bring him over to her Oneiros if needed.

Matthew woke up hours later. His head was on Matil's lap. She was kneeling on the floor crying softly and her warm tears were falling on his face. Ffyr was sitting on his chest and her eyes were also overflowing with tears.

"What happened?" Matthew asked with a tired voice.

He could feel a deep pain on his belly where he was wounded. But, everything down from the wound, he could not feel. He tried to move his legs, but couldn't.

"Ffyr? What happened?" Matthew asked groaning in pain and getting nervous.

"I couldn't heal it." Matil said rubbing her eyes containing her crying.

"The wound was too deep and too big." Ffyr explained. "It destroyed everything inside. Matil did her best. She saved your life. But…" The fairy's tone was fatalistic.

Matthew passed his hands on the wound. It was a strange sensation. He could feel his skin with his fingers, but his skin could not feel his fingers. He was paralyzed from the waist down.

"I'm sorry Matty!" Matil cried loudly after seeing the despair take his face. "I made you fight that man. I'm so sorry!"

Seeing Matil's crying like that, made Matthew forget about his own malaise. He lifted his hand and patted her head.

"It's not your fault. I had to defeat him as well. Not only for you." Matthew tried to comfort her. "I have a friend I need to save."

Matil calmed down a little and looked at Matthew.

"Really?"

"Yeah. My mom promised us a wish if we conquered the dungeon. We're going to wish a friend of ours back to life." Ffyr explained.

"Ffyr. Did you take the prize?" Matthew asked looking down to the fairy sitting on his chest.

"Not yet. I was waiting for you to wake up." Ffyr said and pointed to Enkidu's throne.

Matthew had trouble sitting up, But Matil helped him holding his body up.

On the throne was a purple orb floating just shy of the headrest.

"That's the prize?" Matthew asked. "What is it?"

"It's the dungeon." Matil said.

"I don't know what it is. But Matil thinks it is the will of the dungeon." Ffyr answered.

"Didn't that man say it? If we defeated him we could get the will of the dungeon?" Matil explained her reasoning.

Matthew sighed and used identify on the orb. It showed him a screen saying:

"Will of the Dungeon

Allows the owner to control the dungeon."

Matthew had heard of that before. Some dungeons had it. It was called by adventurers Dungeon Core. It meant that now Matthew could control the Labyrinth himself. However, he remembered what Titania asked.

"Mommy said she wanted you to have it." Matthew said to Ffyr. "It will allow you to control the dungeon."

Ffyr looked at the purple orb.

"It's yours. Go grab it." Matthew said.
