Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 25: Preparation

Yukon River Valley.

After a hearty meal.

Chen Wen started pondering about food storage.

Building a platform is relatively simple, he chose a place with plenty of Yunshan trees.

But the difficulty is climbing up the tree, to build a platform on the Yunshan tree branches.

"How are you at climbing trees?"

Chen Wen asked Hua Yun.

Hua Yun thought for a moment and said, "Not bad, when I went to the Northeast to learn hunting, I practiced climbing trees."

"Can you work on the tree? Like building a platform or something."

Chen Wen's eyes lit up.

Hua Yun shook his head, "It's a bit difficult, I can only ensure that I can climb up."

Well, not so bright after all.

Although Chen Wen is good at climbing trees, doing complex operations up there is still quite tough.

Moreover, this time the work is more than ten meters above the ground.

Falling from such a height is no joke.

"Then forget it, let's take it step by step, build a ladder first, then use a rope to secure it to the tree, and then build the platform."

Chen Wen shook his head, can't avoid this work.

...

Making a ladder is very simple.

As long as there is wood and rope, you can make a rather simple ladder.

You need to know that where Chen Wen is, it's a typical Taiga Forest, which is a high latitude coniferous forest.

There is no shortage of wood here, and the raw materials for making ropes are abundant.

As for the wood.

Chen Wen found some suitable Yunshan trees, chopped them down, and used them as raw materials for the ladder and platform.

As for the rope.

The root system of these Yunshan trees is very good rope material.

They are quite soft and sturdy, full of tenacity.

Moreover, Yunshan roots are very easy to obtain because they are shallow and spread out wide.

Chen Wen used an axe as a spade, slowly cleared the covering soil above the Yunshan roots, and dug out the Yunshan tree roots.

Then he chopped off these roots and split them in the middle.

Twisted into a strand, they are a perfect rope substitute.

The twisted ropes were piled up to one side by Chen Wen.

Once there were enough ropes, Chen Wen began to build the ladder.

He used two Yunshan logs as the sides of the ladder, with slightly thicker branches as the rungs.

He used the rope to secure the rungs firmly to the two Yunshan logs.

Soon, a simple and portable ladder was completed.

Chen Wen tried to lift the ladder and placed it against a Yunshan tree.

Then, he dug a deep pit at the position where the ladder touched the ground.

Inserted the ladder into the pit, making it relatively stable.

Hua Yun didn't come, and Chen Wen didn't plan to go up right now.

After placing the ladder on the Yunshan tree, he tested it quickly, and it could bear his weight.

After testing, Chen Wen buried his head in processing the remaining Yunshan trees.

These are the raw materials for the food storage platform.

...

While Chen Wen was busy with the camp work, Hua Yun took her fishing net to the riverside.

To be honest, Hua Yun was a little nervous.

In the morning, she washed off her scent through the Yukon River.

If a predator caught up, it would most likely track the scent to the Yukon River.

Hua Yun was worried the predator might not have left yet.

Therefore, she was particularly careful when setting the net.

She quickly set the gillnet in a relatively deep water area, and according to Chen Wen's instructions, threw a few pieces of venison strips near the net.

This was baiting, to attract some fish to the net.

After setting the net, Hua Yun washed her hands quickly in the river and left the Yukon River in haste.

...

When Hua Yun returned to the camp.

Chen Wen had already put down his work and started smoking the third batch of meat.

This third batch consisted entirely of venison from white-tailed deer.

The venison was placed in the smokehouse by Chen Wen, starting its transformation.

Hua Yun glanced at the smokehouse Chen Wen made, it seemed somewhat familiar to her.

It was as if she had seen a similar method of building a smokehouse somewhere.

"Who did you learn this from?"

Hua Yun asked curiously, "It feels somewhat familiar."

Chen Wen clapped his hands, looked at Hua Yun with a bit of confusion: "Who else but Mr. Liu."

"He sent me a video after I agreed to the survival mission in Yukon, it was a video of young Mr. Liu surviving in the primeval forest of Western Siberia."

Upon hearing this, Hua Yun was stunned, "Western Siberia?"

"Yes, to be honest, Mr. Liu's survival skills are truly top-notch!"

Talking about this, Chen Wen excitedly said, "You have no idea, in the primeval forest, Mr. Liu found a water source in just three hours! And he speared a deer to death immediately!"

"Wow, Mr. Liu's spear technique is truly extraordinary! You've seen it, right?"

But unexpectedly for Chen Wen.

After hearing this information, Hua Yun was momentarily lost in thought.

Chen Wen paused and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, let's build the platform."

Hua Yun suddenly became a bit aloof, but soon reverted to normal: "Try not to spread the survival video Mr. Liu sent you."

"Of course."

Chen Wen, slow to react, didn't realize Hua Yun's mood had shifted.

In fact, he hadn't finished talking.

In later parts of the survival video, Mr. Liu was practically unstoppable!

His spear skills were deadly for almost any animal lighter than a moose!

He even successfully used a spear from a tree to severely wound a grizzly bear using bait.

And pursued it for three hours in the forest, eventually killing the bear with a second spear.

In even later parts of the survival, Mr. Liu engaged in a melee weapon fight against a white man in the forest.

Ultimately, he succeeded in subduing the white man despite taking an arrow in the arm.

The tape ended after subduing the white man, Chen Wen didn't know what happened next.

However, he searched the news online but didn't find any similar survival stories.

Seems like it was the kind of survival video that was shot but couldn't be broadcast.

Chen Wen stopped thinking about it and instead, with materials in hand, started building the food storage platform.

...

While Chen Wen and Hua Yun were talking.

Their two assistants overheard everything.

Lin Jiawei said excitedly, "Wow, I wondered why Chen Wen seemed so skilled with camp chores, turns out he learned from Mr. Liu!"

"Wow, he really kept it hidden!"

But after hearing this, Luo Yao had a bitter expression.

Unexpectedly, Mr. Liu had given that challenge tape to Chen Wen.

Could it be that he thinks more highly of Chen Wen?

But he doesn't seem particularly outstanding!

...

Far away in Hua Country, Liu Yu couldn't help but sneeze.

"Wow, who's talking about me?"

Liu Yu muttered, turning over.

Upon turning over, Liu Yu couldn't sleep anymore.

"I wonder how Hua Yun and Chen Wen are doing now, this Yukon survival difficulty level is relatively high."

"Plus, neither of them seems suited for this migratory type of survival, better have them practice well when they're back."

"Right, I remember sending the Siberian video to Chen Wen before the game started, wonder how much he learned from it. That girl Hua Yun has experience in high latitude survival, with her leading, there shouldn't be too big of a problem."

"Speaking of which, the survival video tapes should be studied by those below, back then we didn't have such good tools, it was all about physical fitness and skills, can provide a lot of reference value, why don't these people take the opportunity to watch them?"

"Whatever, sleep time!"
