Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 26: Meat Storage Platform

Building a platform for food storage is a rather meticulous task.

Chen Wen eagerly took on this task.

Hua Yun assisted alongside.

Chen Wen climbed up the rungs of the ladder to the midsection of the Yunshan tree.

Then, using a rope, he tied himself to the Yunshan tree, leaving only a 1.5-meter area to move.

Once he confirmed his safety.

Chen Wen asked Hua Yun to pass up the two pieces of wood he had prepared in advance.

These are the key to the food storage platform.

Chen Wen placed the two pieces of wood on the main trunk of the Yunshan tree, ensuring their stability.

Seeing the wood was quite solidly set, Chen Wen then started using rope to fix them, securing the two sticks to the trunk.

After the rope was secured, he asked Hua Yun to pass up wooden sticks that would serve as crossbeams.

Once these sticks were laid across the two pieces of wood, he tied them firmly with rope.

Forming a structure similar to a ladder.

But different from a ladder; this time, there was almost no gap between the wooden sticks.

After securing the sticks on this side, Chen Wen slid down the ladder.

He moved the ladder to another Yunshan tree and secured it there in the same way.

Once both sides were secured, he began laying out the platform.

He laid a large number of sticks on it and then covered them with Yunshan branches and leaves.

To make it sturdy, Chen Wen even placed some stones on top of the Yunshan branches and leaves.

And that's how the food storage platform was completed.

Thanks to the ladder and the rope's fixation, Chen Wen completed this work without any danger.

Next, he went up and down the ladder, placing the already made smoked meat on the food storage platform.

Finally, he covered it with a layer of Yunshan branches and leaves to prevent small creatures in the sky from discovering and stealing the food.

Like a Golden Eagle.

In short, this kept them busy straight into the evening.

Only then did Chen Wen completely resolve the food storage issue.

After coming down.

He pulled the ladder apart and laid it flat on the ground.

Seeing Hua Yun was a bit absent-minded, Chen Wen specifically explained: "This is to prevent a grizzly bear from climbing up the ladder; these guys are good climbers too."

"However, the place I chose this time is full of Yunshan trees. A brown bear simply relying on smell won't find the correct path here, it would be a waste of effort!"

Upon hearing this, Hua Yun nodded: "A very smart approach."

"Of course, do you even know who I am!"

Chen Wen chuckled and walked towards the shelter.

The Golden Eagle stood triumphantly on Chen Wen's shoulder too.

Hua Yun sighed and followed along.

...

To celebrate the completion of the food storage frame.

Dinner was quite sumptuous.

The main course was smoked venison, and the soup was lamb bone soup.

It also included Arctic poppy seeds and a deer's heart.

The nutrition was definitely maxed out.

The taste of the venison was unexpectedly terrible for Chen Wen.

"Damn, it's so strong, it feels worse than bighorn sheep!"

Chen Wen tilted his head, gnawing on the venison jerky.

He used great effort to tear off a piece from the venison jerky.

"Jerky is like this, you have to learn to eat it bit by bit, and pair it with hot soup."

Hua Yun's mood improved quite a bit after a sumptuous dinner.

She used a dagger to pry off some venison fibers on the jerky, then tore off the venison following the fibers.

Placing it in her mouth, she chewed slowly and methodically.

Occasionally sipping some broth, swallowing it down together.

Compared to Chen Wen's way of eating, it was quite elegant.

Seeing this, Chen Wen began mimicking Hua Yun's way of eating.

And sure enough.

Eating this way, the jerky was not only easier to chew, but pairing it with hot soup made it more filling.

"Wow! Impressive! My master!"

Chen Wen gave a thumbs up to Hua Yun.

Hua Yun laughed and said: "Your survival skills are very strong now, but you still lack experience. I was like this too, only learning slowly through constant survival."

"Indeed, who would've thought there were such subtleties in eating jerky?"

Chen Wen didn't shy away from admitting his shortcomings.

Having eaten white-tailed deer meat, the entry was naturally acquired as well.

Upon choosing the entry, Chen Wen marveled once again.

The feeling of acquiring entries while lying down is so satisfying!

The white-tailed deer had only one positive entry, leaving Chen Wen with no choice.

[Desperation (Blue): When surviving in seasons of food scarcity, you can ingest some otherwise inedible foods without endangering your life]

[Note: When desperate for food, a deer eats whatever it can! — White-tailed Deer]

This entry looked quite useful, allowing him to eat things he normally wouldn't dare to consume.

Perhaps it could lead to acquiring some entries not typically obtainable.

Chen Wen was quite satisfied with it.

...

After dinner, according to the agreed night watch schedule.

Chen Wen went to sleep first.

He said goodnight and immediately crawled into his sleeping bag.

There wasn't much time to rest, so he had to take advantage.

Chen Wen was also very adaptable to the environment.

Shortly after lying down, his even breathing could already be heard.

He fell asleep so quickly!

Listening to Chen Wen's sounds of slumber, Hua Yun felt a bit envious.

Being able to quickly fall asleep in the wilderness is a skill in itself.

Watching the flickering campfire, Hua Yun stopped overthinking and stared at the deep night sky, beginning her watch.

...

Approaching the shift change.

Hua Yun was so sleepy her eyelids kept drooping.

She glanced at her watch and then nudged Chen Wen awake.

Chen Wen fell asleep fast and also woke up quickly.

When Hua Yun was approaching, he was already somewhat aware.

The [Fur (Mexican Golden-backed)] entry provided him significant enhancements.

With this entry activated, even if a mouse passed by, Chen Wen would instantly sense it.

"Is it time already? You should rest."

Chen Wen said, yawning.

There still wasn't enough sleep, so he would definitely take a nap tomorrow noon.

While thinking of napping tomorrow.

Suddenly, it seemed Chen Wen heard something.

He immediately became alert.

"Did you hear that?"

Chen Wen tugged Hua Yun to make her more alert.

"What?"

The drowsiness in Hua Yun's eyes vanished instantly.

"Over there, at the food storage area."

Chen Wen murmured, signaling Hua Yun to turn her head and direct her ear toward that area.

Snap! Snap!

The sound of branches breaking echoed from the forest.

Chen Wen furrowed his brows, and Hua Yun also looked wary.

"What is it?"

Hua Yun leaned closer to Chen Wen's ear, asking quietly.

Rubbing the tickled ear blown by Hua Yun's breath, Chen Wen whispered: "A bear, and it's not small!"

"It seems to be tampering with our food rack, or perhaps more likely, the trees around it."

Hua Yun nodded slightly, thinking the same thing.

"This bear… it's very troublesome!"

Recalling the blurry figure he saw last night, Chen Wen said seriously: "It seems to need food badly, most likely a bear that hasn't stored enough fat for hibernation."

Hua Yun agreed with Chen Wen's assessment.

She added: "And this should be a bear that's long matured. It's very cunning and has encountered humans; honestly, these bears are tough to deal with!"

"What should we do? Let it keep searching for our food?"

Hua Yun looked at Chen Wen, seeking his opinion: "If it keeps searching like this, our food will definitely be taken by it completely."

Chen Wen scratched his head in irritation: "Damn, this beast is like a persistent pest!"

"I thought putting the food high would make it give up, but instead, it fancies freeloading, eyeing our stuff!"

"No way! Putting food high can delay it for a while, but it won't withstand its daily pursuit!"

Gritting his teeth, Chen Wen exchanged glances with Hua Yun.

He saw a bold idea in Hua Yun's eyes.

"You mean…"

Hua Yun nodded, confidently smiling, spirited: "So, we can't let it be, let's find a way, hunt the bear!"
