I Will Teach You How to Hunt Gods

Chapter 24: Willpower

Staring at the words in the electronic diary, Yun You and the others were silent.

In fact, by this point, the three of them had roughly guessed the fate of the diary's owner, and even felt a slight pang of regret in their hearts.

But to gather intelligence, they forced themselves to keep reading.

[Year 2077...]

[Location: Tunnel]

[Environment: Unknown]

[Slime started appearing on me too, wanted to touch it, but my fingertips have long lost feeling]

[Maybe it's because the temperature is too high, my limbs have been numb for a long time, and I'm recording the situation using voice input now]

[I can only rely on stimulants and adrenaline to maintain sanity, hoping these things can accompany me a bit longer]

[I've started experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations too, noises constantly buzzing in my ears, unclear, just adding to the annoyance in my brain]

[As for the hallucinations in front of my eyes... haha, it's all lumps of flesh, blobs, chunks, faces growing on them, ugly enough to make one vomit]

[All fake, I don't believe any of it, I just want to go home, I have only one goal, that's to go back and find Aurora (daughter)]

[No hallucinations... no auditory illusions are going to stop me]

...

[Year 2077]

[Location: Probably still the tunnel]

[Environment: Not hot anymore]

[Life support system says my spirit is already broken... Nonsense]

[I'm very clear-headed, I'm not crazy]

[I know what I'm doing, I'm headed for the exit, my steps are steady, even though I can barely feel my limbs... the slime on my body is so much it's disgusting, yet I'm still moving outwards]

[This path is right, absolutely right, I'm almost at the exit, it has to be]

[Aurora (daughter), please, wait for me]

...

[Year 2077]

[Location: Camping area previously rested]

[Environment: Cold]

[I can't move anymore]

[But it's not a matter of physical strength, it's because I don't have legs anymore, I only realized after falling]

[My legs, and even my entire lower body, had long dissolved like chocolate, turning into a pink blob just like those other monsters, only able to squirm on the ground, haha, like damn worms]

[Suddenly I felt a lot of pain, a pain surpassing any sting I've encountered before, as if grinding my legs to bits, flesh and bone debris mixed together, every move, bone spurs puncture the skin, oozing pink slime]

[Actually... I have no idea whether my mental state is now normal or abnormal, clearly in so much pain that breathing is difficult, yet mind is very clear, must go home]

[Aurora (daughter)... bless daddy, I really want... to see you once more]

...

[June 26, 2077, morning 9:00 am]

[Location: Exit of the tunnel]

[Environment: Temperature 26°C, strong wind, humid]

[Luckily, after a whole day of crawling, I saw the exit]

[It was right in front of me, just another 100 meters crawl and I can leave this place]

[No one can stop me anymore]

[Yet at this moment, I am unwilling... or unable to leave]

[I'm not crazy, nor dumb, my consciousness is clear, more rational than ever before]

[I know what I've become, if I go out, all workers in this mining area may die because of me, my Aurora (daughter) might get affected too]

[I can't tolerate any accidents, and won't let anything threaten Aurora, even just a little bit]

[The voice in my ear becomes clearer, constantly seducing me to go out... Hell with it, it already tricked me once, now it can't fool me again!]

[Let's sort things out, since I can't go out, might leave some experience for later comers]

[The sounds and hallucinations in the tunnel appeared much earlier than I initially imagined]

[On the first night of camping, we were caught unaware]

[The photographer who ran ahead probably realized something, willing to break away from the group to escape. His instinct was correct, but since entering the tunnel, we couldn't leave through conventional means]

[That night camping, the guide dog was the first to disappear]

[From my perspective, the dog vanished first, only then did I wake abruptly from my dream...]

[But later, through a series of evidence, such as the tuft of dog hair under my tonsil, and claw marks on the celebrity and the bodyguard, I deduced that the dog was devoured alive by us while we were unaware]

[Regarding the first monster figure seen afterward, that was likely my hallucination]

[The air or water vapor in the tunnel might be poisonous, so under the influence of this toxin, we became violent, frequent hallucinations and auditory illusions arose, hard to distinguish which were fake, which were real]

[The "sacrificing vision" mentioned by the celebrity might've been effective, opening a downward door to alleviate our "mucous transformation symptoms," but unfortunately I sacrificed a fake eye, not a real offering]

[Perhaps because of this, that so-called "Master" got angry, trapping us here]

[Subsequent events became simple and clear]

[Our mutation intensified, even leading to killing each other, but no matter how we kill, eventually, we all fused into a clump of flesh, struggling in pain and fear, killing others in hallucinations]

[The runaway cameraman didn't fuse with the dog, his mutation was minimal, yet in my eyes, he was a disgusting monster, constantly pestering me...]

[So I killed him out of self-defense, and only after he stopped breathing did I realize he hadn't mutated, just overlapping with the pink fungal mat underneath, making me mistake him for a monster]

[I thought my spirit stable, but was played by "that thing"]

[I can't tolerate turning into such a monster, so I decided to throw out the diary with my remaining strength and end myself with fire]

[Finally, leave one word to those who come after]

[Do not resist "Master", can follow "Master's" orders, but must always maintain doubt]

[Only a spirit of steel can be trusted here]

[...]

[Oh, and one more thing, a request to whoever receives this diary]

[Please be sure to tell my daughter Aurora not to have any thoughts about me]

[I understand her character, know she likes pursuing truth, but sometimes, truth inevitably leads to tragedy]

[I have no hope anymore, I don't want that child to come here, follow my footsteps, so please be sure to stop her, keep her out as much as possible]

[I beg...]

[...]

[Task publisher supplement: It's understood that the diary owner's daughter, Aurora Miles, snuck into the pit 2 weeks ago, currently still missing, presumed dead]

[Diary ends here]
