I Will Teach You How to Hunt Gods

Chapter 25: Preparations

After reading the diary, all three of them actually looked a bit grim.

The diary's owner, Miles, was already an out-and-out tough guy.

Even when his body dissolved and turned into a monster, he maintained an iron-clad sanity, leaving behind invaluable analysis and information, preferring to die in the mine rather than harm his companions and daughter.

But sometimes, Nest City is just that cruel, giving people not a shred of hope.

The daughter whom the diary owner longed for eventually ran into the pit and fell into the bottomless abyss with her father.

Though mentally prepared for this, Yun You still felt a bit uncomfortable reading those last few cold death report lines.

However, such negative emotions were clearly not conducive to analysis, so Yun You quickly forced her mind to return to calm.

"Alright, you two, share your thoughts."

The young girl looked at Jack and Frost Moon and asked, "Did you extract any key information from this diary?"

"I'll go first."

Jack raised his hand first and said, "The diary repeatedly mentions 'fragrant gas' and 'pink slime,' and I think these might be some kind of biological toxin that can quickly destroy the human body and to some extent affect the mind."

"Even if it's not the culprit for the miners' mutations, it is definitely not a harmless substance."

"So I suggest we prepare full-coverage hazmat suits; the protection level should not be lower than police level, ideally one that can protect against radiation, viruses, and toxic gases."

"In short, try not to let any part of the body come in contact with the cave's gas, isolate if possible."

"I agree with this."

Yun You nodded, agreeing, "Police-level hazmat suits aren't very expensive, just over 4000 a set. I'll go to the universal vending machine later to get us each a set, along with some gas mask filters... Since we're protecting, let's do it comprehensively."

"Anything else we need to prepare?"

"Plenty."

Jack said, then turned and pulled out a bulging military backpack from behind his seat.

"But I've prepared all these things in advance, so there's no need for the captain to spend extra."

"Specifically, we have high-explosive grenades, three fully automatic firearms, a large-caliber heavy sniper rifle that fires armor-piercing rounds, thermal bombs, compressed rations, and water for three people for a month."

He seemed to be performing magic, taking supplies out of the backpack while saying: "Air purifiers, camping tents, portable temperature regulators, and an alloy electric drill."

Jack shook the electric drill lightly and said softly, "It's for drilling through that stone gate."

"Quite a complete set of items."

Yun You nodded in praise.

It's safe to say that Jack, as an experienced mercenary, has indeed thought of everything. Food, water, protective suits, and even electrical appliances to deal with high temperatures are all prepared, saving Yun You a lot of trouble.

Moreover, this guy has brought quite a lot of guns, a total of four full-caliber firearms, plus over ten handguns and explosives he was too lazy to report, the firepower probably rivals that of half an infantry squad.

If all this firepower was unleashed, combined with a prosthetic body, his burst combat strength in a short period might not be much weaker than Yun You, the Apprentice Death God.

Hiring him was indeed a lucrative deal.

"Frost Moon, any thoughts?"

Yun You turned to the hacker boy again.

The latter thought for a moment and slowly said two words.

"The mind."

"I think we must pay attention to mental issues."

He pointed at the text on the tablet, and said in a deep voice, "Remember? The old miner's recorded temperature shot up to a terrifying level in a short time, describing it as 'able to numb his limbs', roughly estimated over 60 degrees Celsius."

"But I believe this extreme temperature is not real, rather his hallucination."

"According to the old miner's description, he was already affected on the first day entering the mine, frequently experiencing hallucinations and auditory delusions..."

"Although until now we don't know what causes these hallucinations... Maybe it's the toxic gas, or the so-called 'sacrifice ritual', but regardless of how it arises, we need to be cautious."

"Because these hallucinations might be the beginning of every change."

"Exactly."

Yun You nodded heavily with a very serious expression.

"Frost Moon is right, and we can also confirm that the mine definitely has some supernatural entity called 'Master', as well as an unknown number of slime monsters."

"Their biggest impact on people is mental, because from the current information, once the mind has issues, the body will dissolve accordingly."

"How's your mental state? Reliable? Do you need me to get more mental stability equipment?"

Jack waved his hand and said, "I don't need it. My mental value has consistently been in an excellent state, even under gunfire, it hasn't dropped below good, primarily stable."

Saying this, seemingly to prove his words, he extended his wrist, showing the rock-solid... rock-solid and undisturbed mental diagnostic data on his watch, akin to the economic report of Nest City.

"I don't need it either."

Frost Moon shook his head, tapping his head and said, "Hackers cut a part of their frontal lobe when installing embedded operation chips, thereby losing parts of emotional perception ability."

"So, hackers who are easily startled are often a minority, most are like me, showing no exaggerated emotions, quite calm mentally. Keeping cool and making optimal decisions not only helps with brain cooling but also allows us to stay composed."

Hearing this, Yun You couldn't refute.

After all, these two were indeed emotionally stable, arguably more so than her in some ways.

So, she headed to the bar's universal vending machine, prepared herself some mental stabilizers, and bought three police protective suits, stuffing them into Jack's big backpack.

"Phew, done."

Yun You checked all the equipment, exhaling only after confirming everything was correct.

"Are you all ready?"

She tossed the bag to Jack, smiling at them both.

"Yeah."

Frost Moon nodded, but Jack hesitated for a moment, then cautiously asked, "Um, Chica, if it's okay, could I ask which sequence you're in?"

This question was reasonable, as they had signed a contract making them teammates and should share information, and a significant reason for Jack's agreement was Yun You's Apprentice Death God identity. It was normal to want to know the young girl's sequence.

However, Yun You naturally couldn't disclose her possession of three sequences; that fact was so explosive that if spread, who knows who might try slicing her open for research...

This secret wasn't even shared with closer people like Old Jin and Kasidelle, let alone temporary teammates.

So after a brief silence, Yun You simply extended the back of her hand, revealing a red wolf head emblem.

"Sequence Two: Mad Dog, this is my power."

Seeing this, Jack had no more doubts, lifted the backpack with a cheerful smile, and said, "Now I'm relieved."

"Let's go, Chica, to face this so-called Devil's Pit!"

"Yeah, let's go!"
