Chapter 32: Assault on the Research Facility 2-2

The Mechanical Atomist Pantheon is quite peculiar.

Su Ziyu couldn't help but speak softly upon hearing this: "Could this be related to the creations of the Old Gods?"

"We are still analyzing and comparing," Leon replied, "but the results won't come out quickly."

"All the mice that drank the stuff turned into Corpse Ghosts."

"Many of the core members of the Mechanical Atomist Pantheon also suddenly turned into Corpse Ghosts. These people were initially completely immune to radiation pollution."

Su Ziyu nodded and asked, "Did they find Mother Yisodel?"

"No. She has completely disappeared," Leon shook his head, "and our people have no leads either."

The two walked and talked as they quickly entered the dining area.

A day passed swiftly.

In the early hours of the morning, a large number of Warriors began to gather, while members of the Brotherhood all emerged in Exoskeleton Power Armor. The people of Polaris were all uniformly dispatched by the Brotherhood, and Su Ziyu had no wish to compete for authority, so he directly followed the troops in action. However, he did not carry out this operation with Leon, instead assisting the group from the Bionics School.

"Why bring this stuff along too?" Su Ziyu glanced at the corner of the helicopter where several miniature nuclear bombs were placed.

Zero turned to glance and said, "If we can't hold them off, we'll blow the place up!"

Alright then.

The Academy is all the same; now we need to be wary not only of their nuclear bombs but of friendly fire too.

Meanwhile.

In a massive underground research facility hundreds of meters deep, dozens of researchers in white coats were busy outside a spacious laboratory. Directly ahead was a completely sealed glass apparatus filled with a liquid reminiscent of amniotic fluid. At the center was a naked woman with closed eyes but still breathing, her light green hair gently swaying in the fluid, her exposed skin bearing some scars from the past.

The most striking feature was the dozen or so metal tubes inserted into her body: one in the back of her head, two in her chest, several along her spinal column, and others in various places, all connected to an array of external equipment.

Seemingly for safety.

Outside the glass apparatus was another thick layer of tempered glass, with more than ten guards in Exoskeleton Armor nearby, all tensely watching the proceedings.

"Has her brainwave activity normalized?" A man with a bald head and a somewhat menacing face approached.

The nearby researchers promptly stood and bowed, "Doctor. It has normalized."

"But her consciousness appears to be dormant."

"We detected some unusual brainwave frequencies."

The Bald Doctor glanced at the apparatus before turning to someone else, "Has the genetic analysis been completed?"

"A portion has been completed." A young man quickly stood and said, "There is evidence of a certain degree of genetic modification."

"Here is the DNA comparison chart."

"Doctor, take a look."

"This part is similar to the super mutant genes we are studying."

Buzz.

As the group outside busied themselves with the research data, the woman in the glass apparatus slowly opened her eyes. For a brief moment, Mother Yisodel's gaze was confused, but she quickly regained consciousness. Her expression appeared extremely angry, the residual images in her mind showing Solomon's attack, the final image of a tentacle piercing her body, seemingly injecting some kind of potion.

"Not good!"

"She's awake! Tranquilizers! Maximum dosage!"

"Quickly inject!"

Buzz.

All the glass trembled in that instant, but fortunately, it was tempered glass and did not instantly shatter. However, the liquid inside the glass apparatus seemed to boil, accompanied by the flailing light green hair, as cracks appeared on the tempered glass.

"My master will punish you!..." Mother Yisodel's furious growl directly echoed in the others' minds.

However.

At this moment, the potion injected into her body took effect, and soon her eyes turned vacant, and she slipped into a coma.

"Why does she keep awakening?" The Bald Doctor asked, frowning.

"Her genes have extremely strong resistance to medication." A nearby researcher smiled apologetically, "The dosage we injected was enough to sedate over ten elephants, yet she still managed to awaken."

"Be careful." The Bald Doctor frowned, "Don't let her escape."

"Or none of you will survive."

The substantial research room was devoid of extraneous noise, with only the hum of machines running as some people cautiously approached the glass apparatus, drawing vials of blood via various devices before quickly entering the adjoining laboratory.

After circling the area, the Bald Doctor returned to a sealed office.

"Apollo."

Sitting down, he asked in a deep voice, "Has the deployment of the super mutants been completed?"

"It is complete," a cold mechanical voice soon responded, "but Gaia has interfered with my control over the satellites, so I cannot currently monitor their movements."

The Bald Doctor's expression remained unchanged as he spoke in a deep voice, "They will surely come."

"What we need to do is complete the collection of all samples and the genetic analysis of the target before they arrive."

With that, he slowly asked, "Is the self-destruct protocol functioning correctly?"

"All systems functional." The cold mechanical voice paused briefly, the red light above flickering slightly, "If the target breaches the facility, initiate the self-destruct protocol immediately."

"The self-destruct countdown is set to 30 minutes."

The Bald Doctor glanced outside, pondered for a moment, and then said, "Set the countdown to 15 minutes."

"Doctor," the mechanical voice replied, "15 minutes is not enough time to evacuate. The survival chance for researchers is less than 25%."

This duration was indeed inadequate for the evacuation of the other personnel.

But 15 minutes was enough time for him to escape with the critical data, and without hesitation, the Bald Doctor ordered, "Execute as instructed."

"Understood, Doctor," the icy electronic voice soon replied, "Setting the self-destruct countdown to 15 minutes."

"Setting complete."

A faint smile appeared on the Bald Doctor's lips as he gazed at the glass apparatus, murmuring, "By the time you finally breach the research facility!"

"Bang!"

"I hope you'll enjoy the gift I've prepared for you."

The Bald Doctor's eyes returned to Mother Yisodel inside the glass apparatus. According to Solomon's orders, the best outcome was her survival; however, if things went awry and there was no time to take her away, eliminating her would be necessary.

In the dim room.

A subtle distortion seemed to shadow the Bald Doctor's silhouette as he fell into contemplation, pondering how to retreat if things took a bad turn when a faint whisper suddenly reached his ears.

"Umr at-Tawil..."

"Tawil Yat Umr..."

Unsure of when it happened.

Mother Yisodel, previously comatose, had a slight, peculiar smile playing at her lips.

"Her brainwave activity seems unusual," a researcher abruptly stood and exclaimed, "Come, see! Her brainwave activity has nearly halted!"

Perhaps it was an illusion.

Many there felt an imperceptible whispering in their minds; the voice seemed devoid of meaning, yet as if beckoning the name of some entity.

Outside the research facility.

Su Ziyu, having reached the mission target area, was cleaning his firearms when a cold male voice came through the device at his ear: "Commence operation!"

"Optical stealth team ready to clear the sentries!"

In Su Ziyu's view, suddenly more than ten people disappeared from their positions. However, a careful observation still revealed faint humanoid outlines in that area, discernible due to their slight disharmony with the surrounding environment.
