Facing the Apocalypse with My Other Selves

Chapter 147: Star Destroyer Cannon Activate! (Part 2)

Under such contradictions, more and more hope was pinned on the "New Humanity."

"Since the Divine Court will not intervene, then neither shall we. The future of mortals shall be left to mortals themselves."

This was now the subconscious thought of the gods.

Concealing their inner fear with a cloak of arrogance.

However, this time, Wizard Shen Yu was truly not bluffing.

On the third day, an unimaginably colossal weapon was transported into the Gray Mist Space!

Judging from appearance alone, it was a cannon—an absolutely terrifying cannon.

Its very diameter exceeded three thousand meters!

Its length surpassed even fifty thousand meters!

An entire fifty kilometers.

It appeared nothing like a cannon, but rather, like a grand structure—a miracle forged by industry.

Yet in truth, it was indeed a cannon, one that could even be installed on the largest warship of the Human Civilization.

—Star Destroyer Cannon.

Using antimatter as its main means of attack, every segment along its barrel could stack a cluster of antimatter energy, and the total charging time stretched for a full half hour; the power it required was enough to supply an industrial planet working at full capacity for a whole year!

To be honest, though it was long known that the Star Destroyer Cannons of Interstellar Civilization were, in essence, "might makes miracles" personified—with far less technological sophistication than expected—witnessing such a behemoth in person was still shockingly impactful.

Standing atop the muzzle felt like confronting a mountain, a massive chasm.

"Since its design and creation, the Star Destroyer Cannon has not once been truly used in real combat." Intersellar world Shen Yu, too, walked over, gazing upon this monster with some admiration. "This thing has always been considered an utter failure of weapon design."

Indeed, a failure.

As a weapon, it proved utterly useless when Human Civilization faced extinction crisis.

Charging time was too long; the energy reaction, too intense.

It could only destroy stationary targets.

And even then, only if positioned close to the target, could it destroy it.

It did not possess any real long-range attack capability.

One could say that whatever feats the Star Destroyer Cannon could accomplish, so, too, could a sufficient number of other weapons.

"Still, they built it anyway?" Wizard Shen Yu looked at intersellar world Shen Yu, somewhat curious.

Though useless, it was still built.

"At first, it was merely meant as a weapon of deterrence. Our largest warships required a main cannon to match their scale." Intersellar world Shen Yu reached out and gently touched a corner of the Star Destroyer Cannon, speaking slowly. "Later on, it became a beautiful wish—an aspiration to counterattack the Void Spirit Race's Mother Star, to utterly annihilate it."

Yes. The hopes and dreams of Human Civilization were pinned upon it.

If, one day, a miracle occurred, could it serve its purpose?

Yet perhaps even Interstellar Civilization never expected that this monstrous construct's first function on the battlefield would take place in the Otherworld!

"Begin charging!" Wizard Shen Yu was also somewhat excited.

He could not wait any longer.

Although this thing could hardly cause any substantive harm to Divine Spirits, it was nevertheless the first time Human Civilization would launch an attack against the gods!

Intersellar world Shen Yu did not hesitate.

He activated the Star Destroyer Cannon directly in the Gray Mist Space.

Tiny lights scattered through every corner of the Star Destroyer Cannon. These were artificial detection devices; not a single component of this giant cannon could be allowed to fail.

Intersellar world Shen Yu watched with sharp focus.

Terrifying energy gathered inside the barrel.

Growing, ever more astonishing.

The four witnesses, in particular, all possessed extraordinary power.

Each could palpably sense the dreadful energy contained within that cannon.

It was a pure force of destruction.

At this moment, no one spoke—a silent vigil of four, all waiting patiently.

The gods, meanwhile, had no idea what was coming.

All Divine Spirits remained in the Hall of the Gods, ceaselessly discussing, fashioning new Divine-made Monsters.

Though in their words these were "New Humanity," successors to replace the human race, in truth, they were mere monsters.

Using the souls of their followers, but erasing the followers' consciousness first; gathering Divine Authority and Divine Power, but utterly incapable of proper use; all the Divine Art contained within them was almost uniformly offensive, and every Divine Spirit racked their minds imagining new ways to destroy humanity.

"These monsters wield the Divine Authority of the Great Sun God, bearing the Power of the Great Sun. Wherever they go, all things shall be scorched and incinerated."

"Their brilliance can bear curses, summon raging winds."

"Heh, mortals cannot possibly comprehend the power of us Divine Spirits."

"Fertility Goddess, my children must multiply yet more."

"..."

The relaxed tones of the Eleven Main Gods were carried over, while a new monster was emerging, ever more swiftly, beneath their collective power.

The other Divine Spirits looked on with curiosity, stepping forward to lend their strength whenever needed.

No one so much as discussed the warning from the Magic Emperor; it was as though truly none cared in the slightest.

But in the next instant, all the Divine Spirits froze at once, eyes widening, staring off into the distance.

Each Divine Spirit bore a look first of confusion, then of utter terror!

They all sensed it: that unspeakably terrifying power of destruction!

No words could describe the immensity of that force—so vast it far surpassed their imagination; so vast even the might of a Main God couldn't compare!

None of the Divine Spirits had time to react—save the Thunder God, who let out a furious roar.

"No!"

In the next instant, annihilation descended!

First, the central region—dozens of kilometers wide—was instantly obliterated. The surging energies unleashed by its eradication spread swiftly across land, magma, and air. All things under this overwhelming force were shattered, crushed, flung away, then in the all-consuming aftermath, turned into the purest photons.

In the end, all the gods could see was brilliant, burning light!

It was almost instinctive—they fled, hearts gripped by terror.

Even the Main Gods were no exception.

Though the direct threat of this terrifying energy to them was minimal, it was nonetheless too dreadful, too immense—it felt as if it could destroy all things with ease.

Even the power of Divine Spirits was insignificant before this.

There was simply no resistance!

Even for Main Gods.

All they could do was widen their eyes, watching helplessly as that power destroyed all within the Origin Plane, obliterated the Hall of the Gods, wiped out the very land that represented the gods' supreme sovereignty.

If the powers of the gods were drawn from the world, then before them now was a force that could very well destroy the world itself!

"Is this an attack? Is this the Magic Emperor's warning?" All the Divine Spirits were left with was profound shock.

Meanwhile, Wizard Shen Yu was busy working magic to awaken the divine bodies before him.

There were thirty-eight in total.

Among them: two Main Gods, eight Upper Rank Gods.

These were the gods who knew humanity, who refused to see its destruction.

The moment the Origin Plane was destroyed, Wizard Shen Yu instantly used the Gray Mist to retrieve them all.

Without the supervision of the other gods, the cost in Gray Mist was drastically lowered.

Everything unfolded just as predicted.

And as Wizard Shen Yu awakened their consciousnesses, he did not forget to establish contracts.

This was a necessary safeguard.

The stance of the past might not be the stance of the future; internal traitors could be far more dangerous than external foes.

Especially now, knowing clearly what manner of beings the Divine Spirits truly were, Wizard Shen Yu felt a natural wariness toward them.

However, when it came to the two Main Gods, the contract magic required was beyond Wizard Shen Yu's current level.

Yet, with the Gray Mist, it was by no means an unsolvable issue.
