Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 213: Relying on Providence (Part 4)

Upon hearing this, Tang Xiaoquan quickly stepped in to block Lin Junfu's way.

No way, how could a healthy young man like him shamelessly bother Aunt Zhao, who's over fifty, to cook and heat up food for him so late at night?

If word got out, he'd surely be labeled as "lazy and greedy."

However, considering Lin Junfu's good intentions, Tang Xiaoquan carefully chose his words and politely declined, saying, "Haha, no need, Lin Guan. I've slept most of the day, and I'm feeling a bit dizzy. Cooking a meal can help invigorate me."

Lin Junfu couldn't help but smile, understanding the young man's real thoughts. Amused, he also silently applauded Tang Xiaoquan's respectful attitude towards the elderly.

"Alright! You should know where the kitchen is, right? It's next to where you guys bathed today. As for what you want to eat, you can go find Little Wei; she's in charge of inventory for the whole factory."

"Huh? Find... Little Wei?" It seemed he'd heard something unbelievable, and Tang Xiaoquan's astonished tone left Lin Junfu puzzled.

"What's wrong? Is there something inappropriate about finding Little Wei?"

"Ah!" In a further bout of panic, realizing his lapse, Tang Xiaoquan quickly waved it off and changed the subject, saying, "Uh, nothing! Nothing! Haha, I just wanted to confirm, isn't Wei Yang responsible for medical health? Why is she managing resources too?"

Lin Junfu didn't think much of it and replied earnestly, "Oh, it's like this. I see that Little Wei is thoughtful and thorough in her work, so I entrusted her with this important responsibility."

After Lin Junfu finished, Hu Xiaodong, who had been in the corner, suddenly added meaningfully, "What? Does Little Tang think this arrangement is inappropriate? You wouldn't happen to be worried about our sister Wei Yang, would you?"

As soon as he said this, Tang Xiaoquan's face turned as red as an apple. Fortunately, he was hidden in the dark, and no one could see his expression. Otherwise, he'd want to find a hole to crawl into.

Even so, Tang Xiaoquan, who rarely experienced such teasing about "romantic relationships," felt at a loss. His usual careful thinking and agile mind became like a malfunctioning machine, completely useless at that moment.

Feeling helpless, Tang Xiaoquan resorted to "the best strategy is to run," hastily saying, "I'm hungry, I'll go heat up some food," and swiftly escaped from the manager's office without looking back.

Watching the young man's slightly embarrassed back, Lin Junfu, Zhao, and Hu in the room all chuckled knowingly.

But once the laughter settled, Lin Junfu's self-talk provoked another round of reflection among them.

"This young man is not bad!"

Undoubtedly, because of their age differences, the three in the room naturally had varied comments about Tang Xiaoquan.

But there was one certainty: their affection and praise for the youngsters were unanimous.

And all of this came from Tang Xiaoquan's abilities, repeatedly bringing the team out of tough situations, saving them from danger, and accumulating admiration.

Tang Xiaoquan hurriedly ran to the staircase corner, his cheeks still burning hot. He hadn't expected steady and composed Brother Hu to joke with him like this in front of everyone.

Thankfully, Qiang and the others weren't there, or his face would be unbearable today...

Sighing, Tang Xiaoquan shook his head with a forced smile. After calming himself a bit, he acted as if nothing had happened and walked down the stairs.

The operating room on the first floor was much brighter than the second floor. The large ventilation windows on both sides let in the bright moonlight, providing some coolness to the stifling "furnace."

Among the seated women, Tang Xiaoquan quickly found his target.

"Little Wei!"

Perhaps to avoid suspicion or to boost courage, Tang Xiaoquan called out to her before reaching the girl.

The figure in the moonlight paused noticeably, then slowly turned around. Upon seeing Tang Xiaoquan's face, she immediately stopped folding clothes, stood up, and smiled, saying, "Why? Little Tang, is there something you need from me?"

"Well..." Obviously, the girl's calm demeanor made Tang Xiaoquan a bit uneasy. He already felt guilty, and now he seemed even more at a loss: "Uh, what are you doing? Are you busy right now?"

Wei Yang playfully shrugged, then pointed to the clothes below, continuing with a smile, "It's okay; I'm just sorting the clothes you guys changed. You seem a bit nervous! Is something bothering you physically?"

As she spoke, Wei Yang instinctively took a step forward.

Goodness, with that step, Tang Xiaoquan's heart raced like a startled deer.

"No no no no" His mouth repeatedly said "no," then, after the final "matter" came out, his cheeks uncontrollably "reddened again."

Damn it! Tang Xiaoquan angrily scolded himself for being useless! He couldn't understand why he felt nervous around Wei Yang, like a mouse before a cat.

He couldn't deny liking her since he recently felt an inkling of attraction towards her deep within.

But ultimately, their contact hasn't lasted long, and by Tang Xiaoquan's character, he doesn't quite believe in "love at first sight."

Therefore, these irrational emotional fluctuations were baffling and frustrating him.

Wei Yang couldn't understand. His intense reaction deepened her suspicions, and she immediately asked again, slightly questioning, "You sure?"

"Sure!" This time, Tang Xiaoquan wasn't coy. He pointed to his stomach and confidently said, "I just wanted to see if you're busy. If not, could you help me get some food? My stomach..."

"Pfft~" Before Tang Xiaoquan finished, Wei Yang burst into a smile. It's not that she intentionally laughed at his "cautiousness," but the young man's display of uncharacteristic "awkwardness" struck her as strangely "cute."

Tang Xiaoquan awkwardly scratched his head, thinking he'd said something wrong, and sheepishly chuckled, "Haha, wh-what's so funny? Is it really that amusing?"

Wei Yang's beautiful eyebrows curved into crescents. She noticed Tang Xiaoquan's embarrassment and knew that continuing to laugh would seem a bit rude, so she slightly waved her delicate hand, composed herself, and said seriously, "Alright, it's nothing! Let's go—I'll help you get some food!"
