Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy

Chapter 1048: Back Up

After ending the Spirit Possession of the Sky Immortals, their group immediately left the scorched battlefield behind without looking back.

The battle just now created too much disturbance. They weren't sure if there were more Demon Saints or a swarm of Demonic Creatures that might trample them if they stayed there for long.

Furthermore, with the rampaging lava all around, they just have to leave the corpses of both allies and enemies as they were swallowed by the restless volcano…

They moved swiftly at first. They controlled the shadows to hide their presence and fade from sight. However, this move eats up a lot of Shadow Divinity, especially if used during the day. Because of that, they still had to slow down after some time…

"Let's focus on retreating…" Kaela said as she led at the front.

Thankfully, the godly spirit she used to possess her was compatible with her physique. Thanks to that, she didn't suffer too much internal damage from that.

Even with all the Shadow Celestial Spells she used, her aura was still oppressive, though it was clear the Descent had taxed her greatly.

Another hour passed in silence… Each of them needed to conserve some strength, so they had to pause from time to time. They were worried that they might get caught unprepared after all.

Divinity burned too quickly with their current situation.

Once Kaela gave the signal, the group halted once again in a secluded stretch of barren rock.

There were no demonic or evil presences nearby, so Kaela chose this place to rest.

After Vale carefully extended his Spirit Vision to ensure no pursuit lingered, he joined the group in their rest…

One Lesser Immortal exhaled loudly as he flopped onto a boulder.

"By the heavens… I thought we were all going to die in that lava pit. Is this mission completion enough for a long vacation? Or are we going to accept another?"

The person beside him froze as Kaela had definitely heard it. Since she was the City Lord's daughter, he believed that they couldn't just think of having a vacation now that the realm was in crisis with the Demon Invasion.

"What? Are you thinking of fighting against those Demon Saints again?" He continued.

"You? I was watching your hands shake so hard you nearly dropped your blade."

"You noticed that? Damn… thought I hid it well."

At these words, Kaela chuckled. She didn't really mind if they were thinking of 'retiring' now…

Even a few Earth Immortals chuckled since they knew how dangerous it was.

Vale, on the other hand, just continued on absorbing the thick Shadow Divinity around him…

Well, he could no longer do this once he returned to the human realm after all.

This Shadow Realm was the only place where he could freely absorb Divinity… It might be slower than extraction, but he'd take whatever he could.

Soon, as the conversation of the group deepened, Vale also joined it.

"Miss Kaela," one of the Lesser Immortals called respectfully… "Was that really the Supreme White Shadow you summoned?"

Vale then heard something absurd from the whispers of one of the Lesser Immortals.

Apparently, there was a rumor that the Supreme White Shadow could only accept someone's summon if they were a virgin…

Of course, no one knows if it was true or not.

Kaela's staff rested at her side as she replied nonchalantly... "Whether it was the Supreme or not doesn't matter. What matters is that the enemy was crushed."

Her two Sky Immortal bodyguards exchanged amused glances. One of them leaned on his blade and muttered…

"She'll never admit it, but that was the Supreme."

A ripple of low laughter ran through the group. However, Kaela just looked at her guards and shook her head.

She had no intention of admitting it, no matter what happened.

After some time, another Immortal sighed while gazing at the sky.

"If this is what one mission looks like, I'm starting to think I should've stayed home cultivating in peace. Demon Saints, that flaming monsters… It's too much for a newly advanced Immortal like me."

"Then quit…" One of his peers said dryly. "But you won't, because no Immortal can resist proving himself on the battlefield."

The complaining Immortal grinned sheepishly. "You're right. I just… wish the heavens gave us enemies that don't try to set us on fire."

Even Vale couldn't stop a faint smile at that remark.

Kaela eventually rose as she scanned the horizon... "Enough rest. We'll continue."

The group reorganized, forming their traveling formation once more.

Soon, Shadow Divinity gathered around them. It was like a protective field formed naturally because of their gathering.

As they moved, the journey remained steady… The land slowly changed, and for a moment, it felt as if safety were truly within reach.

But that illusion shattered in an instant.

As they thought that they were getting closer to the nearest city, a suffocating aura descended from above…

It was heavier than anything they had faced before.

Kaela frowned as she felt that this strength was quite close to her father, the Arcane Immortal!

In just a few moments, the weaker Immortals staggered as though mountains had been dropped onto their shoulders.

"This is bad…" Vale whispered as he realized what was going on…

A figure emerged ahead, blocking their path...

This figure was also burning… To be exact, he seemed to be cloaked in blue flame…

As Vale stared at its horns that spiraled from its skull, he knew that they were in trouble…

'That's a demon god…' Vale thought as he knew that a Demon Saint wouldn't be this powerful.

The group froze as their faces started draining of color.

"It's impossible…" one Lesser Immortal muttered. They also realized that it was a demon god.

"We only have Lesser Immortals, Earth Immortals, and three Sky Immortals… Even Demon Saints nearly killed us…"

"We… we can't…" another stammered, already trembling from the sight of the enemy.

Without an Arcane Immortal, this was certain annihilation.

Just like that, the figure's voice descended.

"You killed my Saints. And you think that you'll survive?"
