Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy

Chapter 1080: The Defense

Kent arrived at the town with his personal squad of Chaos Immortals.

They moved swiftly, descending from the skies with cloaked energy and various protections ready to stop any Formation Arrays coming at them…

However, they were attacked…

The snow had already begun to melt from the residual heat of their arrival, and the town's perimeter was scanned instantly, but it was empty.

As they used their Divine Sense to search around, they didn't notice any signs of resistance. There was no Formation Circle and no traces of Merlin.

Kent stood at the center of the town square, his cloak fluttering in the wind as he stared at the abandoned buildings.

The Death Essence was gone, and even the residual mist left by the Dark Spirit had dissipated.

"He's gone," one of the Immortals confirmed. "No trace of him."

Kent didn't respond as he felt frustrated about this situation…

He clenched his fists as his Chaos Energy started leaking uncontrollably into the air.

Whom~

The snow around him evaporated instantly.

"This is Enough…" he muttered.

The others turned toward him.

"We've wasted too much time chasing Arcana. Merlin escaped. The Shadow Domain knows our movements. And we've lost twelve more Immortals..."

He turned to face his squad directly.

"There's no need to wait for Mennena to recover. We'll destroy the Shadow Domain now."

The squad didn't question him.

Kent returned to Krogas City that same day.

Within hours, he arrived at the outpost they created outside the Shadow Domain…

He only left a few Immortals to guard Mennena's Temple to ensure that nothing would go wrong any more.

Soon, every Chaos Immortal under his command was summoned. The Chaos Beasts stationed outside the region were also ready to rush inside the Domain…

The entire army was prepared for war.

Neylan, Gyn, Arin, and Nyssa stood at the center of the war table as Kent issued the final order.

"We're done probing. No more raids. No more subtlety."

He pointed to the map.

"Every city. Every formation node. Every Immortal. Burn it all."

The Chaos Immortals moved out.

Hundreds of them together…

Soon, it felt as if there was a dark tide as Chaos Beasts surged across the borders of the Shadow Domain. Then, the ground trembled as Immortal-level spells were activated.

Unlike the previous infiltration of Eustace City, where they had only opened a narrow breach in the barrier, the Chaos Immortals didn't hold back this time.

They bombarded the Shadow Domain's outer Formation Arrays with full force.

Immortal-level spells, Chaos-infused bombardments, and other powerful artifacts were used and struck the perimeter of the Shadow Domain in waves.

The protective layers that Magnus, Constance, and the Dragons had placed were soon destroyed!

These barriers that had held for years began to crack. The defensive formation nodes started losing it energy and soon, the entire barrier shattered.

Boom!

The sky rippled as the last node was broken.

Finally, the Shadow Domain was exposed.

Chaos Beasts surged forward instantly.

They were no longer restrained by the barrier, they passed through the forest and swiftly poured into the nearest cities…

Just from their momentum, they easily destroyed the forest, mountains, or any barricade that was blocking their path…

In just a few moments, their roars echoed across the valleys. Needless to say, panic spread among the defenders.

But it didn't end there.

Thirty airships descended from the clouds.

Most had once been passenger vessels… They were previously used for trade, travel, or diplomatic missions.

Now, they were modified for war. Their hulls were reinforced with a special alloy, and their decks were lined with bombardment arrays used by Elementalists and Runemasters!

Their undercarriages even carried payloads designed to collapse city blocks!

Each airship was controlled by Immortals and Arcanists who had pledged allegiance to Kent's campaign…

Soon, they arrived at the nearest city in the west, the Capone City!

They didn't hesitate as the bombardment began.

Explosive runes rained down on the city that was still protected by its own barrier…

Nonetheless, the airships moved in coordinated patterns, circling cities and launching decisive strikes. Soon, smoke rose from the outer districts that weren't covered by the barriers…

Still, the Immortals didn't target civilians.

They couldn't, since karma would bind them.

Instead, the Chaos Beasts were unleashed on the mortal defenders…

They targeted the soldiers, Arcanists, and militia units.

The beasts tore through resistance, while the Immortals focused only on their counterparts as they waited for them to appear…

It was a clean division.

Mortals against beasts. Immortals against Immortals.

Kent stood aboard the lead airship, watching the chaos unfold below.

"This is what they wanted," he said.

"Let them see what happens when we stop holding back."

Neylan nodded beside him. "They won't recover from this."

Gyn monitored the battlefield from a tactical array. "We're pressuring three of their cities at the same time… The fourth and the fifth city would be destroyed later..."

Arin, on the other hand, coordinated the Chaos Beasts from the rear, directing them toward strategic targets.

The full force of the Chaos Immortals had been unleashed.

And this time, they weren't looking for Arcana.

They were looking to end the Shadow Domain's reign!

***

However, Capone City didn't fall easily.

As the Chaos Beasts tore through the outer forest and surged toward the city walls, the defenders activated their final line of defense.

Magic automatons, humanoid constructs powered by core runes and enchanted alloys, rose from underground vaults and hidden bunkers.

They were Denise's creations and were mass-produced by her team, led by Heinz Becker!

Some were modeled after knights, others after ancient warriors, but all were built for one purpose… war.

Alongside them, dozens of golems emerged from the city's foundation.

Earth golems reinforced the walls. Flame golems launched counterstrikes from elevated platforms. Wind-based sentries hovered above the rooftops, intercepting airborne Chaos Beasts before they could breach the barrier…

After all, the Shadow Domain wasn't just composed of Dark Arts Practitioners but also many Elemental Arts Practitioners, especially after the Order of the Lore Hunters arrived in the domain…
