Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 112: Balancing the Chips (Part 2)

"I can trade something else with you."

As he spoke, a section of the floor in the hall suddenly opened, revealing a freezer. As the door opened, five crimson potions in glass test tubes appeared before Chu Xiu.

[Fusion Blood Plasma Extract]

[Tier: Mortal]

[Quality: Perfect]

[Attributes: Can fuse a creature with up to two items and acquire the trait [Corpse Demonization].]

The potion before him stirred something in Chu Xiu's heart.

This thing was truly of great use to him!

He currently had many spare pieces of equipment, just in [Treasure] Tier heavy armor, he had three pieces.

With this fusion extract, he could fuse the bodies he resurrected using the Corpse-Driving Technique with this equipment, further enhancing their combat capabilities.

Since he was currently engaged in battles of the Fierce Tier, his Ghostly Legion was gradually becoming inadequate. Handling lower-tier Fierce Tier enemies was manageable, but when facing higher-tier Fierce Tier and Fierce Tier elites, he could only rely on numbers to hold them at bay.

But the Corpse-Driving Technique had no such limitations. Reviving Fierce Tier creatures resulted in half their Fierce Tier combat power!

If he could nurture a powerful creature like the Silver Knight...

Just the thought excited Chu Xiu!

Meanwhile, the tempting voice of the overseer continued in his ear, "Even if you don't use the extract, you can sell it to other Awakened; it's sure to fetch a high price!"

"Moreover, I can give you an additional perfect fusion embryo as well. This was accidentally created during my experiments with these Corpse Demons here. It has very strong basic attributes, possesses Fierce Tier combat power, and is highly adaptable to items, maximizing the fusion capability of the items."

"However, if you don't agree, I will have to destroy the extract and release all the Corpse Demons in a desperate gamble, as I cannot just sit by and watch the hope of my daughter's resurrection slip away."

As he finished speaking, the cameras around focused intently on Chu Xiu, seemingly awaiting his response.

Chu Xiu was also thoughtful; this seemed to be a branch choice in the mission.

If he fought his way through, he could obtain the [Legendary] equipment; but if he chose to compromise, he would get the potion and a Fierce Tier summoned creature.

Yet at this moment, he was more curious about...

"You actually know about the Awakened?" Chu Xiu asked.

"Of course," the overseer replied, his tone turning somewhat complicated as if recalling something, "Without entering the Abyss, how could one be devoured by the Abyss?"

Chu Xiu was silent for a moment, realizing that this apocalyptic Corpse Demon world once had a normal civilization just like Blue Star, even having extraordinary professions like the Awakened.

Could this imply that one day Blue Star might become like this, a foundation for the trials of Awakened from other worlds?

Though, at least for now, the Transcendent on Blue Star seemed far stronger than those of this world; there didn't seem to be an immediate risk of being devoured by the Abyss.

But who could say for sure about such things? Didn't that so-called "Extreme Dao" suggest that Blue Star had already been targeted by some existences within the Abyss?

As Chu Xiu pondered, the overseer urged him, "Outsider, make your choice. You wouldn't have the heart to shatter the only hope of a poor mother, would you?"

The overseer's words broke Chu Xiu's thoughts. He didn't dwell on it any longer; when the sky falls, there will be taller people to hold it up. Now wasn't the time to think about these things.

He turned to one of the cameras and smiled, "My choice is."

"I want it all."

The overseer was momentarily at a loss for words, and after a pause, a cold voice echoed, "Young man, there are not so many ways to have your cake and eat it too in this world. I hold all the permissions of this shelter. Even if I'm not your match, I can still destroy these items before you can get to them."

Chu Xiu replied unhurriedly, "Do you know what's a big taboo in negotiations?"

Overseer: "..."

"It's when there is too large a gap in the chips of the two parties."

Chu Xiu chuckled as he stepped forward, "For me, even if I fall out with you, I can still gain a piece of [Legendary] equipment, which is enough to satisfy my expectations. What you've offered is just an additional bonus."

"But for you..."

As he spoke, Chu Xiu walked to the room where the little girl was and placed his hand on the glass.

"This is the most precious thing you're willing to risk everything to protect."

In the next moment, Chu Xiu suddenly exerted force, and the glass encasing the little girl's room shattered into pieces!

Amid the overseer's shocked and angry outcry, countless glass shards fell to the ground. Chu Xiu took a step forward and stood in front of the crystal coffin housing the little girl. At this distance, he could clearly see every pore on the girl's face.

With just a casual swing of his fist, he could instantly smash this adorable little girl and her coffin into smithereens!

"You, don't you have a heart!" The overseer's roar, filled with grief, rang out.

"Can you really bring yourself to harm a child not even seven years old?"

"Would you truly shatter the only support a mother has in this apocalypse?"

"Won't you feel any pangs of conscience doing this?"

"No," replied Chu Xiu calmly.

He gazed at the girl before him, a faint smile playing on his lips, "Speaking of conscience, I've discovered something interesting."

"I found no traces of any fusion with items on this girl, but there is a fatal stitched wound on her neck."

"So I have another version of the story."

"The shelter's overseer kindly took in a mother and daughter wandering in the apocalypse, attracted by the mother's talents as a scientist."

"Maybe an accident happened afterward, or maybe it had occurred before. The girl unfortunately lost her life, and the mother, unable to accept this, sealed her in an ice coffin."

"Her world turned bleak, but the emergence of the Blood Pool gave her hope for her daughter's resurrection. Hence, she secretly conducted human experiments on the shelter's residents."

"Perhaps due to a mistake, or tight investigation, her actions were discovered by the shelter's overseer and officer. Just when Corpse Demons outside the shelter multiplied, she used the Blood Pool's power to turn some of them into Knights patrolling outside constantly, and others into a giant tree eternally guarding the shelter."

"This brought some peace, but as more and more people vanished, it drew the attention of the shelter residents. So she went even further, integrating herself with the main control center, controlling the entire shelter's population as experiment materials."

As Chu Xiu spoke, his eyes landed on the camera, as if trying to see through the icy machine to the soul hiding behind the data lines.

"You didn't achieve a miraculous success through luck, but by research data contributed by countless lives lost through your hands!"

"Your research was not to eliminate Corpse Demonization, but to figure out how to remove Corpse Demonization while fusing items! Because you want to use the powerful force of Legendary items to revive your daughter without turning her into a grotesque half-human, half-ghost creature."

"Of course, the above is just my casually thrown conjecture, but there's one thing I'm certain of."

"That is, your deliberately pathetic voice, faked to the point it makes me sick!"

As he finished speaking, without hesitation, Chu Xiu raised his hand, about to bring it down heavily on the small girl in the ice coffin!

"Stop!"

The overseer's sharp cry rang out, and Chu Xiu's fist halted mid-air, less than three centimeters away from the girl's coffin.

After a long while, the overseer's exhausted, bitter voice sounded again, "Say, what do you intend to do."

"It's simple," Chu Xiu revealed a satisfied smile, "those five extracts, the perfect fusion embryo, and the Legendary equipment, I want them all."

"Furthermore, you must stay here, producing more extract for me and researching more fusion embryos."

"And what I can offer you is just a glimmer of hope, a dangling, barely-there, negligible hope."

"I will promise you, that one day when I am powerful enough, I will try my best to revive your daughter."

"This promise comes with no guarantees. I could forget about it the next day and suffer no consequences, but those are all the terms I offer."

Chu Xiu finished speaking and clapped his hands with a smile.

"Now, the stakes are even."
