Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 240: Different Casting Systems

The Light Sect finally gave Duke thirty thousand pieces of Level 1 Magic Crystal Stones, which indeed showed they were somewhat strapped for resources.

Duke didn't ask for more, even though the two Sun Resilience Potions he gave were worth nearly ten thousand magic stones.

However, the Light Sect had also saved him before, so there was no need to haggle too much.

Duke's identity was quickly settled — just a seemingly ordinary wooden plaque recording some simple information about Duke.

The Light Bishop was quickly helped away; he needed continued recuperation, and if the injuries didn't stabilize and continued to worsen, it would be very dangerous.

However, even if stabilized, it was estimated his lifespan was running out.

After the Light Bishop left, Holy Daughter Dali led Duke to a small courtyard beside the hall, where servants brought hot tea and some snacks before retreating.

"You just said you wanted to study Light Attribute magic? I see the magic you used before seems to be of the Earth Attribute, have you had any connections with the Four Gods Sect before?" Dali asked.

Duke replied, "No connection, I just like researching various kinds of magic."

As he spoke, he launched a Light Beam towards the sky, catching Dali's eye.

"This is not a magic of the Light Sect, where did you get it from?" Dali was very curious.

Duke thought for a moment and said, "I developed it myself."

"It seems you are indeed a very skilled and knowledgeable mage; reaching this point on your own is not easy," Dali said.

Mages in the Oracle Plane generally belong to two types: one is those belonging to the Four Gods Sect or Light Sect, and they grow gradually relying on the resources within the sect.

This kind usually has a relatively fixed growth path, and their growth system is relatively complete, but they become increasingly bound to the sect.

The other is a free mage, growing up by self-learning and researching, which is very difficult, but any individual mage with certain achievements is generally very powerful.

In Dali's eyes, Duke was clearly such a mage.

Dali continued, "I can't tell you the core spells within the sect, but I can share some ordinary spells."

Duke didn't mind, he was merely interested in understanding the magic system of this world, and if possible, he could gain proficiency.

Dali then told Duke of a Light system spell named Holy Healing Technique, the effect of which is to heal injuries.

During Dali's description, Duke found that the magic system in this plane was indeed different from a Wizard's.

Wizards usually need to build a Magic Model and then activate the model with Magic Power to cast spells.

But mages in the Oracle Plane don't need to construct a Magic Model; they use their own magic power with specific incantations to mobilize surrounding Elemental Power to complete the spell-casting process.

After discovering this difference, Duke began researching the spell incantations.

According to Dali, incantations are usually composed of various basic syllables, which have been passed down from a long time ago.

Duke tried some out and found that relying on these incantations could indeed mobilize the surrounding Light Elemental Energy Particles.

This casting method seems to depend greatly on the caster's talent; if the talent is insufficient, it is difficult to mobilize the surrounding Elemental Energy Particles.

The syllables of incantations are essentially somewhat similar to Will Rune in Alchemy; they are relatively special existences.

Once Duke understood this, he remained outwardly calm, not revealing the fact that he had no foundation in the syllables of incantations.

He merely learned about these indirectly, and Dali never thought of this; she didn't even consider that Duke hadn't mastered the basic syllables of incantations but continued explaining patiently.

Different incantations have different requirements on the caster's Spiritual Power; if spiritual power is too low, some incantations cannot be used.

At this point, Duke understood why the Four Gods Sect's spells were so limited, because the casting method required high Elemental Affinity Talent.

It was considered very good if an average person had a high affinity with just one element; people with multiple Elemental Affinities were extremely rare.

Duke also learned about the caster's power system in this plane, which includes Mage, Magic Master, and Great Mage.

Among them, Mages are divided into low-level, mid-level, and high-level Mages, roughly corresponding to the gaseous, liquidation, and crystallization stages of a Wizard.

As for Magic Masters and Great Mages, they are approximately the strength of Level 2 and Level 3 Wizards.

This was just Duke's guess; he hadn't encountered someone of the Magic Master level.

"Is there anyone or anything more powerful than a Great Mage?" Duke casually asked.

Dali frowned, thought for a moment, then shook her head and said, "Probably not, the only beings more powerful than Great Mages would be deities."

Although she was the Holy Daughter of the Light Sect, she still showed great respect towards the other Four Gods.

Several hours later, Duke uttered a few peculiar syllables, the pronunciation was very strange yet extremely accurate.

A moment later, countless white energy emerged in his hand, flowing into Dali's body, making her feel warm and comfortable instantly.

[Holy Healing Technique: LV1 (1/50)]

Since the Holy Healing Technique didn't have a corresponding Magic Model, Duke couldn't judge its level based on the complexity of the model.

However, Dali said that Holy Healing Technique could be mastered by Apprentice Mages, which are similar to Wizard Apprentices, indicating that Holy Healing Technique is a minor spell.

He also understood what Dali meant by core spells, probably referring to Level 1 Magic; what could be shared with him were all minor spells.

He then "consulted" Dali on two minor Light Attribute spells, which were the Lighting Technique and Dispelling Technique.

As the name suggests, the Lighting Technique can summon a light source to illuminate the surroundings, and as long as Magic Power is continuously provided, it can be maintained indefinitely.

This spell wasn't very useful to Duke; it was simply for reference and research.

The Dispelling Technique, however, was worth learning; it has the effect of dispelling curses.

Duke hadn't mastered a similar spell before; this spell was of certain value to him.

Before long, dusk arrived, and Duke had to leave; after sundown, non-members of the Light Sect are not allowed to stay within.

The Light Sect arranged a hotel for him and would take him to see a shop's storefront tomorrow, which was part of the remuneration provided by the Light Sect.

Shopfronts in Azure Vault City were not cheap and couldn't be purchased without sufficient connections, acquired entirely through the channels and connections behind the Light Sect.

Duke specifically emphasized that he didn't need a prime location, the more secluded, the better.

The Light Sect found this odd request a bit puzzling but complied nonetheless.
