Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 255: So-Called God

Duke has been researching during this time; the spellcasting system is convenient and fast, yet it imposes high requirements on the caster's talent and elemental affinity.

The structure of the spellcasting system dictates that those lacking talent have almost no chance of following this path, even though mastering these spells is not particularly difficult.

The wizard's casting system is different; it has some talent requirements, but they're not as high.

Even those with lesser talent can gain casting ability through systematic learning and knowledge acquisition.

Wizards fundamentally deconstruct the entire casting process, which requires considerable effort, and the learning process takes significant time.

However, once a wizard undergoes this series of learning processes, they generally gain a profound understanding of magic and related knowledge, rather than merely using it superficially.

"Wizards enhance spiritual power through meditation techniques. So, how do mages from the Oracle Plane achieve it?" Duke pondered.

Thinking for a moment, he decided to visit the Light Sect and ask Holy Daughter Dali. She should provide an accurate answer.

Robert was still in the yard, and upon hearing Duke's task, he nodded and said, "Rest assured, Duke. I'll gather as many magic spells as possible for you."

Magic spells are no longer a novelty among players; many who acquire spells sell them at high prices.

Over a month ago, a single magic spell could sell for hundreds of thousands of federal currency.

Now prices have dropped significantly, and only rare and uncommon spells can fetch high prices since most people are already familiar with basic magic spells.

These spells aren't consumables that can only be sold once, so the price naturally doesn't stay high when sold frequently.

Mastering spells isn't very difficult; even if the syllables are odd, with some effort, most people can grasp the basics.

However, very few can use magic spells to complete spellcasting; only a select few are considered true mages.

Robert has tried casting magic but hasn't succeeded yet.

He can sense the elemental power around him, but he is always a bit lacking.

Robert soon left to gather magic spells for Duke.

As Duke watched him leave, he also closed the shop and headed towards the Light Sect.

He had already informed Holy Daughter Dali of his visit via the communication stone, and she happened to be available.

The guards at the Light Sect's entrance were already familiar with Duke and let him pass without inquiry.

Holy Daughter Dali lived alone in a palace-like place, very spacious, designated for the residence of past holy daughters.

When Duke arrived, she had prepared hot tea, fruits, and some snacks.

"Please sit, Mr. Duke, and feel free to ask for anything you want." Holy Daughter Dali said, with several servants nearby.

Duke glanced at the full table and said, "This is already enough. I came mainly to inquire about spiritual power growth, wondering if there's any difference between the sect's method and ours…"

He refrained from directly mentioning meditation, opting for a roundabout inquiry to avoid revealing too much about himself.

Holy Daughter Dali didn't think too much about it and said straightforwardly, "The sect's mages primarily rely on faith in the God of Light, receiving divine blessings to slowly increase spiritual power. But you rely on elemental power perception, which is much slower…"

Silently, Duke listened, his mind rapidly contemplating the meaning behind Dali's words.

Through Dali's explanation, he learned that mages outside the Oracle Plane sect perceive elemental power to grow spiritual power.

Perceiving elemental power is essentially meditation but in a very primitive form, requiring high elemental affinity.

This scarcity of mages in the Oracle Plane is due to the need for considerable elemental affinity to qualify for the mage's extraordinary path.

Individuals with lesser talent must choose to join either the Four Gods Sect or the Light Sect.

By joining the sect, they can become believers and, under divine power, more easily perceive elemental power, thus enhancing spiritual power.

Strength advancement for mages in the sect is nearly always associated with their faith in the divine, including subsequent promotion paths.

The sect's ability to grow in strength and become a significant force in this plane relates to such a method.

The decline of the Light Sect is attributed to the sudden disappearance of the God of Light, no longer responding to believers' prayers, hindering advancement and making promotions increasingly difficult.

Learning this, Duke pondered another question: "What exactly are these so-called gods? Are they genuine life entities or consciousness ensembles…"

Based on known research from the Wizard Plane, gods fall into these two categories.

One is akin to the Goddess of Light in the Wizard Plane, not a life entity but a consciousness ensemble formed from plane will.

The other is like the Evil God from the Other Plane, having grown into powerful life entities comparable to gods through self-cultivation.

Typically, the former is what most envision as true gods, whereas the latter is merely powerful life forms.

Black Hand Morgan from Black Sail might be considered a god; a Level 4 divine status existence can be referred to as a god.

Considering this, Duke asked, "Have any of you in the Light Sect or the Four Gods Sect truly seen a god?"

Holy Daughter Dali found the question strange but sincerely recalled and replied.

"Not seen directly, but many have genuinely sensed the divine presence. The sect's bishops and holy daughters can sense gods." Dali affirmed.

After hearing this, Duke roughly concluded that the four gods and the God of Light in this world are likely consciousness ensembles, not powerful life entities arising from cultivation.

"It seems these gods might simply be consciousness ensembles formed from plane will. Why did the God of Light disappear so suddenly?" Duke was puzzled.
